Dirty Kids, I'm calling you out.

I'm tired of my friends dying. In dreams, my companions move easily in bodies that have been cared for. They're covered in scrapes and bruises and grease, but free from track marks. Empty stomachs, but healthy livers. Tired eyes, but good teeth. Then I wake up to the sharp morning and my road dawg is shaking for a beer.

I'm tired of hospitals and trash at the hopout and stolen packs and animal cruelty. I miss the musicians who travel just to play, the healers who roam to stay sane. I miss the free spirits who manage to find freedom from their own vices.

This is a call, dearest dirty kids. I've been where you are and I've seen why it's hard and no, I don't always do it right either. I can do better. We can do better. We've got to try. We've got to keep this thing alive and keep ourselves alive. We've got to get up and get over our hangups and pull you outta the ditch so that you'll be there to do the same when I'm slaggin.

We've got to hold these secrets and this way of living and somehow still share it with the next wave, finding the diamonds who'll take these rough reigns and keep riding this horse to Anywhere.

Anywhere, kids! Y'heard me? You might have lived there so long you take it for granted, but that place saved my life, and there are others who need to see it too.

So here's to fewer blown up Wal-Marts and more doing dishes for the person housing us up. Here's to fewer dope missions and more 2AM missions across town to drag a couch back to the hopout. Fewer dirty rigs under the bridge, and more sharpie poems on the wall. Steal less Dramamine and more spray paint.

Use what you've got.

Use what you've got.

Use what you've GOT!

I love you scumy freeloading freedom fighters until the end. We need you in this world. We need to run into you again after 8 months of not knowing what happened to you. We need you when we've been stuck walking for days and no one is picking us up and we're feeling real down, and all the sudden we see your tag and know that we're not alone. If you were here to tag it and still somehow made it out of this hell, we can too. We need that random message out of the blue. Keep sending it, and we'll do the same for you.

This is a call, friends. Life has been good to me lately, and my door is open while I have one. When I head back to Anywhere, my smokes and my cans of beans are ours to share. Stay alive and I'll see you out there.

Peaceably,

-Tall Sam Jones

A night under a bridge next to a river

Morning folks. Found a spot that fit for a day or 2 of doing nothing but repowering the internal batteries and sorting though what to have for breakfast. First up coffee and seeing if I can grab some water for a shower at the river.

Advice Call of the void

I can feel my current living situation is wearing down on me. There's too many expectations and rules that I feel like i won't be able to fulfill for much longer. I feel guilty being here when i know i don't inherently deserve it and i think I'm running myself into the ground on purpose subconsciously by being stupid with the little money i have. I'm not sure if i was ever meant for a normal life. Something always goes awry and I don't know how people do this shit for decades without going insane. I genuinely think some people are just always meant to be on the run and on the streets instead of a "normal" life

Question Question: What are some temporary jobs or other ways you guys have to get more money to travel?

I am not houseless, but I am curious about how you guys travel, hitchhike, and more so much. And still manage to provide for yourselves. It's cool, I guess, because it shows creativity. If you guys are just foraging, that's cool as well.

Seeking Travel Partner Looking for travel buddy to overlap in US/ Peru / Panama / Colombia / US West Coast | Nov-Feb

Hey all! I have posted earlier without specific dates but now my flights are booked and date is set.

I'm a writer and filmmaker from India (late 30s). Doing a slow, multi-month trip across US + LatAm from late Nov to Feb. I would love to have company for a leg or even just a few days to explore together.

Route — happy to overlap for even 2-3 days.

- Atlanta: Nov 26 - Dec 1
- Miami: Dec 1 - Dec 4
- Lima: Dec 5 - Dec 15
- Cusco: Dec 15 - Dec 27
- Lima again: Dec 28 - Jan 5
- Panama City: Jan 5 - Jan 12
- Medellin: Jan 12 - Jan 19
- Bogota: Jan 19 - Feb 2
- LA: Feb 2 - Feb 18
- SF: Feb 18 - Feb 24

I like to travel slow, cafe-hop, walk a lot, write, and film some street life. Not into rushing 10 sights a day.
I love personal space. We can do our own thing all day and just link up for dinner / exploring. No need to be joined at the hip at all the time.
I can also cook Indian meal if we have a kitchen!

Accommodation — mix of hostels (social) and mid-range hotels (quiet recharge). Flexible.

If you're around any of these places around the same time and this sounds like your vibe, drop a comment or DM me!

Also down to share tips on Peru / Colombia if you've been — still planning that part.

I decided that I want to start a collective of nomads who travel across the world. No money needed, no vehicles needed. Just a large family who understands that there's more to life than just working and sleeping. A family free from the restraints of false modernity

Rather die than go back

Yeah, not sure where I’m going with this one. Just a vent I guess. I’m a 22 year old man and I left a loving home and family a few months back because I can’t live the way they want me to. I know I’m fortunate than most and I will be open and honest about my privilege. But money, and a career, bills, and all the falsities of conventional life disgust me. Everyone is fake, and society puts you in a box and tells you to “act this way or no one will like you”. I’ve never belonged and I don’t want to. The road has treated me better than anywhere or anyone else has. The people I’ve met have been the realest people. And all of you, you all are some of the most decent, kindest, realest, smartest motherfuckers out there. I would rather die than go back, and I don’t want to have to put my mother through the loss of her son, but I can’t go back. Fuck that

Just had to rant. Love you all

Back in my house..laying on my bed.. drinking jack daniels at 3 o’ clock in the morning.. I feel numb..

Contemplating in my head.. whether I should stay..or I should go.. when clearly.. I want to go..

I’m so use to being..on the go.. being completely by myself.. the life of the road..has tainted me forever..I

I’m Proud of myself..of the two years I’ve been gone.. away from the noise.. the total asinine bulls**t.. the family drama.. and the total destruction of california.. and all its ridiculousness..

I was just in San Francisco.. passing through..and visited a friend.. sadly to say.. the hangout was bland..conversations were bland.. the food was bland..and over priced.. hanging out was a waste of my time..and money.. even worse.. coming back home on Bart transit..

Bart had so many delays.. the car stood at MacArthur station..for a good 20 minutes.. wow Bart has declined dramatically..

And This house.. doesn’t feel like home.. my bedroom..has been completely flipped.. the walls are painted grey.. the flooring has been redone..the colors of the room..is really ugly..not even close to what it was before..

The air is tight.. so tight..I can’t even breathe.. I can feel the itchiness..of the synthetic material..on my bedding..

I crack open my window.. and the smell of glade spray..isn’t going away.. I’m getting a massive headache..

When I lived in this house.. my cat usually comes in and out my window.. I haven’t seen him once.. and I know he’s still alive..

I’m feeling a cigarette now.. I knows it’s super late.. but I’m already in a haze.. might as well have smoke..

A big fat skunk..has been lingering around.. in our backyard.. where’s my cross man rifle when I need it?..

My mother bought me a big a** coffee maker.. when I didn’t ask for one.. like I don’t drink 12 cups..

I’m just utilizing the house.. to re charge.. take a break.. rest.. collect myself.. collect some things..
But sure enough.. when the time is right.. I’ll leave..

I’m not sure if I want to go back to Portland.. even though I love Portland..
Something is telling me..to go to another state.. and try something new.. new scenery..

When I wake up.. I hope eggs Benedict.. isn’t waiting for me..in the kitchen..

I’ll be back.

Question Is the road dying or just transforming?

So, I’m 20, and I keep seeing all these posts about newbie people wanting advice on traveling and train hopping, and so many of the comments say something like: “just get a pack and start walking with your thumb out,” or “just start hitchhiking and if you’re meant to ride freight you will.”

The thing is that the majority of those people who were riding or traveling did so quite some years ago, and I just wanna ask the people who have been on the road for an extended period of time or anybody who has thoughts on this: was it easier to travel 10+ years ago?

My perspective is kinda skewed cuz i was homeless a couple of years ago in my addiction and was just an absolute mess so im sure traveling again with a clear mind would change things a bit, but I just cant help feeling like the road is changing for the worse (that’s not to say it was ever easy or free of problems in the first place) Anyway, peace.
