On-Grounds Why does the purple line suck so much?
There's a huge stretch of the purple with no stop. How come? I assume it's for a specific purpose/group of students? But it's just surprising to me.

Rather than incoming students having to sift through dozens of other posts to see if their questions have been answered before, I thought it would be a good idea to create a thread where these questions can be gathered together.
I welcome all incoming (and returning!) students to ask their questions about housing, course selection, food, social life, and anything in-between within this thread. I'll do my best to answer questions I'm qualified to answer and I encourage other students to chime in as well. Hopefully this post can become a compendium of frequently asked questions.

Hi everyone! I am a junior at JMU but I applied to the UVA transfer ABSN program on October 1st. I am genuinely scared because some say they usually get 120 applications and only accept 24 while others say it really depends on the highest GPA and how many people apply. Is there anybody who was/has been accepted and didn’t have many community service hours but instead had a lot of work experience? I am in the same boat and just want to narrow my chances lol. Any feedback I would genuinely appreciate!

Interesting historical find!
Does anyone have an old lab coat they'd be willing to donate for a Halloween costume? Lmk!

Hey everyone!
I'm currently a freshman studying Mechanical Engineering at VCU, and I'm planning to apply to transfer to UVA Engineering for Fall 2027, hopefully majoring in Civil Engineering.
I've been trying to make sure I'm taking all the right prerequisites, but I'm a little confused about how UVA evaluates AP credits and courses from other universities.
Here's my current situation:
Fall 2026 (Currently Taking):
Spring 2027 (Planned):
My biggest concern is Calculus II.
I got a 4 on AP Calculus BC, and VCU awarded me credit for both Calculus I (MATH 200) and Calculus II (MATH 201).
However, I'm unsure whether UVA Engineering will recognize those credits since they're AP-based rather than courses I physically took at VCU.
If I earn strong grades in Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations, will UVA consider my Calculus II prerequisite satisfied, or does it strictly depend on how they evaluate my AP score?
I also have a few other questions:
I've already contacted UVA Engineering, but they directed me to Undergraduate Admissions for external transfer questions. I'm planning to reach out to Admissions as well.
I'm mainly looking for advice from anyone who has transferred from VCU, another four-year university, or a Virginia community college into UVA Engineering.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello! My name is Emily. I'm really interested in transferring to UVA but I'm nervous about my chances of getting in because of how many W's I have on my transcript. I will give a summary about my stats as a student but when responding please don't sugarcoat or worry about hurting my feelings! Just be honest. Thanks
So, I'm earning my associate's in computer science at Tidewater Community College. I plan on applying for the school of engineering and applied sciences for computer science to transfer in the Fall of 2027.
My GPA is 3.4
I am on the VCCS guaranteed admission route, but UVA requires CHM and PHY, I plan on only taking physics because that's all I have time for. I spoke with a UVA transfer advisor and he said prioritize physics.
I have 3 W's on my transcript because I really struggle with Calculus and I was taking an English class that I realized I didn't need. I've already passed Calc 1 and will hopefully pass Calc 2 in the Spring.
I am currently working as a web development intern, but I've also been working as a Lifeguard since I was 15 and am now Head Guard of 2 years.
I am a first-generation student and have an SAI of -1500. (Hence why I want to go to UVA, I believe I could get a full ride)
I am part of computer club at TCC.
I am also a student ambassador for TCC, so I do service hours at events for students.
I have an academic recommendation from one of the leads for the student ambassador program and a professional recommendation from my lifeguard manager.
I believe I have a decent essay.
Is there anything I absolutely need to change or complete before I apply? Or if I'm completely cooked on getting in, what universities would be a better fit?
Thanks!

i only took three years of a foreign language, 8th grade, 9th grade, and online in 10th grade, and i wasn't able to take a language my sophomore year in person or my junior year because of scheduling conflicts. will this hurt my application?
i want to apply to the college of arts and sciences, but i feel like not taking a language reduces my chances even though my course rigor is high.
also, im semi-bilingual, and i know another language but not fluently.

I’m gonna be around UVA for work Oct 21-25, what’s there to do in the area for so1 under 21?

I'm currently a 1st-year at VCU and am planning to transfer to UVA for my sophomore year. I really want to attend McIntire, but I'm very skeptical about being accepted as a transfer student, given how low the acceptance rates are in general.
I want to major in accounting there, but should I take the risk and apply directly to McIntire, or should I instead major in Economics and do a commerce minor of some sort?
How can I improve my chances of getting in as an in-state transfer from another 4-year school, aside from having a high GPA and completing all the prerequisites needed? For those who were in a similar situation as me, what did you do? How were your stats?

I‘m currently a senior applying for colleges and I’m freaking out because a college admissions officer came to my school and they said that UVA isn’t prioritizing students who didn’t take a language for all four years of high school? I’m worried because I stopped after sophomore year. I still took all four core classes including AP Calculus BC which is the highest level of math I can take at my school. I’m unsure about this because I never heard that before...

I am considering taking an APMA course, and I do need it for my major asap so I’d preferably take it this Spring. However, since I am a student in the College, I know that Engineering students get priority in enrolling in APMA courses.
Is there a way to guarantee a spot in a class? I remember being removed from an APMA class last year because I wasn’t an engineering student and I don’t want that to happen again.
Or is the only option is for me to wait until open enrollment in August and hope there are available seats during the section i am available?

I’m a UVA student planning to study abroad in Dublin, Ireland for Spring 2027 through IES Abroad (Engineering, Math & Science program at DCU). I was wondering if anyone else from UVA is going to Dublin next semester or knows someone who is!
I’d love to connect with other students before going!

For context, I'm a current first year who has had back surgery for scoliosis around two years ago, with chronic pain after walking long distances or sitting for too long. I'm applying to SDAC(interview next week so a couple days before the priority housing deadline) but I'm not sure what to request in terms of accomodations for next year housing. What would be within reasonable bounds that I can actually receive? What housing options on ground would be plausible? So far I've requested an elevator/first floor room, and no stairs leading the building, but I don't want to be living at Lambeth(distance from grounds) or Weedon(too many stairs near Gooch Dillard).
I received a parking citation outside on Gaston student housing last week and I submitted an appeal, which they denied. Im going to appeal a second and final time and would like to know what to say to increase my chances of it working. Thanks

Hello all,
I’m not a student yet, but plan on transferring by the fall. I want to study physics at uva and have yet to take physics I at cc, I’m at nova. I would like to self study physics I, so that when I arrive at uva, I will be seeing the material twice. I know that it will likely vary by professor, but what textbooks have been used by professors in your physics classes? Specifically Physics I and II. If anyone also has workbook recommendations that would be great too. Thank you 🙏🏾

I'm taking a computer architecture class next sem with a guy named Ashish Venkat. Anyone know about him in general in terms of a professor or a researcher? I tried looking through courseforum but didn't get any relevant info
