A distant relative of mine died by suicide in 2024. He worked as a Class IV employee at a government hospital in Haryana and was just three years away from retirement.
Never in my life had I imagined that he would take such a step. He was a very shareef sidha sadha admi who always helped others. He was the typical *bhola-bhala* Pahadi uncle.
He consumed poison and died. His death came as such a sudden shock that nobody could believe what had happened. Even his own family had no idea why he had taken such a drastic step, as he had not shared his problems with anyone.
Later, some of his colleagues visited his home and told the family that he had been bullied by other hospital staff, including doctors. There was reportedly a caste angle to the harassment as well. He was a Rawat (Thakur), and according to these colleagues, certain staff members treated him badly.
One of the hospital staff aunty told his family that he was being mentally harassed. His colleagues threatened to have him transferred to a distant posting and said they could damage his career in ways that might stop his pension. He also had a home loan to repay and they knew it.
Later, his family did JAGAR in their ancestral village. During the jagar, Pitra (his late mother) spoke through an elderly men of their family and said the same thing about the bullying happened to him pitra said \Jyul bur kya kyari, ook naash huwal**
Now My mother spoke to his wife this week, and she told my mother that five people had died since her husbandтАЩs death. The specific doctor whom the hospital staff member had identified as one of those responsible for the harassment also died due to cardiac arrest.
My mother believes that the Devta delivered justice.
I am not someone who blindly supports superstition, and I do not claim to have all the answers. But five deaths within just 1.5 years is something that has left me wondering about the entire situation.
Their devta is narsingh devta.
