Hey everyone!

We're process of officially bringing the USYD Writing Society back to campus, and we’re building up our founding member list!

Whether you write fiction, poetry, screenplays, or casual essays or you just want a low-pressure, quiet space to sit with a coffee and draft alongside other creative people this society is for you. We’re planning regular writing sprints, prompt nights, casual feedback circles, coffee runs, and hopefully publishing a student zine down the track!

Looking for a Treasurer: Our core executive team is almost completely locked in, but we have one last core role available for a Treasurer! If you have a background or interest in Finance, Commerce, or basic budgeting, we’d love to have you on the team. It’s a super manageable commitment (~1-2 hours a week) and a great leadership title to add to your resume for 2027.

Want to join as a member or apply for Treasurer?

Hey guys, I’m seeking advice on what you would do in my situation
I’m at the end of my first years of my degree. I do an arts degree and I enjoy my first major, but I just discontinued failed my second major which I only started this semester btw).
Overall I haven’t had an amazing time at University. I moved from a rural community to Sydney (domestic student), and although I’ve since made some great friends and I’m involved in a society, I just wake up miserable most days.
University seemed important to me as I’m the first in my family to go and I felt like I was ‘too smart’ to let my brains go to waste.
However, at the end of Highschool I was looking into other options in case I didn’t get into university/changed my mind. One of those options was the defence force.
The benefits and pay are good, and honestly, what are the chances of it making my life worse than it is now? I already have a few ideas of what jobs I’d go for, and I spoke to some recruiters last year so I have a good idea what the process is like.
If you were in my shoes, what would you do? I honestly feel so stuck, so if anyone has any advice or ideas, or even other options that I’m not thinking about, please lmk!

I want to complain about a unit co-ordinator (and the only lecturer/tutor in the course) — teaches a unit in the Law school.

Never properly prepared for classes, never goes through the actual content, just sits at the front and yaps about his own personal opinions for the 4 hours. Never listens to people's questions or answers them properly, and doesn't really even know the law that well (dodges basic questions students have).

Midsem assignment due 5.5 weeks ago but hasn't got it back to us yet. It's one class with 30 people...

Not really sure who to complain to. Dean? Complaints? Cheers

how to convert my WAM to GPA for CA and US grad schools?

Hello,

I am an international student who will be attending university of sydney's masters of radiography program 2027.

I just have several questions regarding inherent requiremnets for the program, I appreciate anybody who can answer some of my questions.

1. I have not arrived in Australia yet, once I do, do I just sign up for a cpr program to get a certificate from the red cross before the program starts?

2. For national police checks, do I bring a criminal record from my current country ? (I have no criminal record)

3. I haven't received any details regarding the FMH Verification Sonia, who or what email can I ask questions regarding this process?

4. Im extremely excited to start the program in February, are there any other international students who would like to keep in touch to help each other out getting adjusted to the program requirements etc?

Its my first time going to Australia, just excited and anxious about how it will be.

Thank you for your time, as well as any responses.

Best of luck to other students attending the radiography program !

Hi everyone, I’m planning to apply to the usyd Master of Public Health program. Could anyone currently doing the program/recently graduated from the program please contact me?

And my graduation is tomorrow…. Am i cooked or they have some spare….

Hi everyone, I was in Fisher library today and think I lost an earring with a green gem in it that has great sentimental value. If anyone has seen it please let me know really hoping I find it!

Hi! would anyone be able to answer on how long do you have to stay within the subcommittee role once your application has been accepted? Do u have to commit until you graduate?

I made a free map of Sydney meals that are $15 or less, and there are 85 around campus, Newtown and Glebe so far. A few:

- Chips and feta wrap, $10.20, Carslaw Kitchen

- Fried chicken wrap, $9.50, Clem's Chicken Shop

- Pork roll, $10, Newtown Pork Roll

- Beef burger, $10, Hideout

- Handmade noodles with pork mince and bean sauce, $11.80, Dumpling Time

Each one has the full price, any catch, and whether it's open now. No ads, no sign-up to look: www.brokemap.com.au

There are definitely cheap spots around uni I haven't found. If you know one, add it (I check them before they go up), or flag a price that's changed.

Im a Little confused because it says on the website that I can apply with my sat score but does this mean I don’t need to submit my grades? My grades aren’t the strongest so I would prefer to submit my sat score. Also can I only submit sat score for the residential colleges aswell?
Thank you!

hello!

long shot but in case anyone found a lost openswim pro could you please send me a message? 🥺

i arrived at city rd around 4pm today and then stayed at sydney uni sport cafe for a few hohrs before i realized it was missing.

really would mean a lot if ever someone found them or could give me a lead — more than the cost, they were a gift from my parents :(

hi, i’ve had special considerations approved for a couple of classes where i was absent due to medical reasons. i was recently told by my unit coordinator for this class they don’t accept special considerations approvals for class absences and that i would need to take an alternative test because of it, which determines whether i absent fail the unit or not. i don’t know what criteria i need to achieve to ‘pass’ this because the test is very short, but i’m really anxious about it

i understand that no matter what i need to take this test not to fail, im not fighting against that. but i was wondering why special consideration isn’t a valid reason to miss a class? i’ve never had a unit coord tell me they don’t mark down my approved absences for classes and it makes me concerned about other students who might be in a similar situation — at this point, getting spec con and having it approved makes no difference. is this a thing in other units? is it worth talking to someone else higher up about it?

Help I’m a second year student
I’m emotionally and physically exhausted
What are everyone else’s tips to being motivated and keep studying…. 😭😭😭😭

2nd year at UniMelb here. Info about uni is scattered everywhere, so every time I had to dig through a bunch of different sites, and Rate My Professors barely covers Australia. So I built this: usyd.talkwalll.com （also an app TalkWall）

It’s collected 1,100+ events and 34,000+ reviews so far, rated unit/professor on usefulness, difficulty and whether people would take it again. You can also filter events by your major or interests, so you only see the ones that matter to you.

It’s free, with no ads, and I made auto translate so international students can be part of the community as well.

Hi everyone,

I’m preparing an application for the MPhil (Business) at the University of Sydney. My current IELTS overall score is 6.5, but the course requires 7.0 overall with at least 6.5 in each band. I’m planning to retake the test soon.

Has anyone applied to this specific program before meeting the English requirement? Were you given a conditional offer and allowed to submit an updated IELTS score later, or did the Business School wait until you met the requirement before assessing your application?

I’ve seen similar cases for coursework degrees, but I’m not sure whether the process is different for the Business School’s research programs.

Any recent experience would be really helpful. Thanks!

hi, for anyone who had request for completion letter after getting a result, how long does it usually take if you choose to send/post it within Sydney?

btw, I am last semester undergraduate student, so I want to estimate how long does it take for me to receive my completion letter (since official transcript will take longer time; either during graduation ceremony or after university's process is done)

What do we thing about this as an OLE?

I have a PPC and everything but can they fail me im scared shitless and im not in the right state to be sitting an exam tomorrow.

hi there :) i’m 24F and an international student hoping to make some friends before starting at usyd next feb!

Hey! I’m planning to start the Master of Computer Science with specialize in data science and ai at USYD in 2027, and I’m looking to talk to someone who is currently studying the program.
I have a few questions about the actual workload, difficulty, programming requirements, assignments, quizzes, and exams. I’m coming from a non-CS background, so I’d especially like to know how challenging the program is for someone without much programming experience.
If you’re currently doing the MCS and don’t mind answering a few questions, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hey everyone!

I’m looking at doing a Master of Commerce through a CSP in 2027 and was hoping to hear from anyone who’s done it or is currently studying.

Keen to hear your thoughts on the course overall, the pros and cons, and particularly how it’s delivered. I work full-time, so I’m interested in how flexible it is, whether it can be done fully online, and how much on-campus attendance is required (it says in person, but is this enforced?).

Would appreciate any advice or experiences. Thanks!

rn i go to uni in the usa (us citizen), but ethnically im indian and ppl have told me the racism in Sydney is pretty bad. I had to switch choices last minute since my parents were super stubborn about not sending me to Europe (family members got mugged, robbed, etc), so Sydney became my second choice.

my first choice program shut down, so Sydney is my last option now, and idk if it's even worth going since now people are telling me the racism is really bad there. I've heard this for people from India, and even though I grew up here, I'm still brown just without an accent ig. I really want to enjoy usyd, but I'm worried about my experience being potentially worse than the average person cuz of how I look.

Any info anyone has on this or on usyd and study abroad in sydney in general, i'd be grateful to hear. unsw is also one of my choices just fyi. thanks so much!

I’m applying for a PhD at the University of Sydney. I did my Master’s in Physics at Universidade de São Paulo, but my transcript uses letter grades only. USP has told me they won’t provide a numeric conversion document. Has anyone applied to USYD (or another university that uses numeric grades) with a letter-graded transcript, and how was it handled? Also, does anyone know how USYD typically assesses this?
