Hi, I’m an IMG who graduated from medical school about 20 years ago.
My study resources were BnB, my own Anki cards, NBME 31, and Free 120.
I own my own clinic and work almost full-time, so preparing for Step 1 has been a long journey.
When I first started reading First Aid two years ago, I could barely understand it because I had forgotten so much of the basic knowledge. I needed lectures that could explain FA line by line, so I watched all the BnB lectures while taking notes directly in FA for quick reviews later. I also did the quizzes that came with the lectures.
My study process had three main stages:
First: I watched each BnB lecture and then did the corresponding quiz.
Second: I reviewed FA system by system (cardiology, pulmonology, etc.) and followed each review with the corresponding quizzes.
Third: I did a much quicker review of each system and retook the questions I had marked.
The whole process took a long time because I didn’t have much time to study. After reviewing FA a couple more times and going through my own Anki cards for facts I tended to forget, I decided to take just one NBME and Free 120 to assess my readiness.
My results were:
NBME 31: 73%
Free 120: 76%
Those scores gave me the confidence that I could pass.
And today, I finally got my P!
It’s been a long journey, but I’m so happy that all the hard work paid off.
I hope my experience encourages other old graduates who are working full-time and wondering if passing Step 1 is still possible.
Good luck to everyone preparing for the exam!

I studied for 72 days (according to my anki). Wanted to share my stats in case anyone needs a little encouragement!
I didn't study everyday. I took Friday evenings and Saturdays off every week. I usually did 40-60 questions a day and reviewing each NBME took me 3-4 days, although I got faster closer to the exam
* UWorld: 48.5% completed, 56% average
* NBME 25: 57%
* NBME 28: 54%
* NBME 29: 58.5%
* NBME 30: 60%
* NBME 32: 64%
* NBME 33: 64% - 6 days before
* NBME 34: 68.5% - 4 days before
* Free 120: 64.5% - 2 days before
Hope this gives you a little hope if you're feeling down. My best advice would be to have a balance and keep your sanity ❤️

so currently prepping for step 2. the actual test is 9 months from now
i have about 1k questions remaining on uworld which ill be finishing in a bout a month and half
then ill start amboss, my current plan is to take my sweet time with amboss as i have many months till the actual exam
then during the dedicated period i'll start doing the 6000 NBME questions to test my score
im also using anking and suspending the UWORLD cards
do u have any suggestions/modifications on my plan?

Hello everyone
I failed step one unfortunately , i don’t want to give up this road yet i am a non us img requiring a visa
I know there are people who matched with an attempt after working really hard .
I am asking how much connections can actually help with this ? Having a family member who is a hospitalist in a not favorable state ?

Hey everyone! I’m planning to take USMLE Step 1 in Karachi, Pakistan. The Prometric website is showing Saturday dates for Step 1, but I wanted to confirm whether anyone has actually taken the exam on a Saturday at a Karachi test center recently.
Has anyone booked or taken Step 1 on a Saturday in Karachi? Is the availability on the website accurate?
I’d really appreciate any firsthand experience. Thanks!

I’m heavily devastated. I failed on my 2nd attempt idk how. I worked on my weakness and included all the systems and subjects. I re-attempted nbmes and scored bw 70-75%. Nbme 34- 65%. Idk what should I do now. By what margin did I fail?

Hey All,
I need a review of my performance- all offline.
Nbme 25:57%
nbme 26: 67.5% (i didnt time this properly)
Nbme 27: 60% 3 weeks ago
Nbme 28: 66% 2 weeks ago
Nbme 29: 67.5% past sunday 10/11
I am doing uworld (76% used, 56% correct)
FA, mehlman, reviewing nbmes (takes around 2-3 days easily).
I really do not want to go in without hitting 70s. I also am obviously dealing with the ptsd and just the fear of me collapsing during the real deal if i get vague stems
in a row (which i know will obv happen and ill have to keep myself strong mentally), but the fear keeps me up at night lol.
Just a final review please. Things I can do to keep scoring higher, and just seeing that Pass. 😭
Just tell me the best way to optimise my performance in these last weeks.
Thank you in advance
Hello. I'm 32years old...UG YOG IS 2018 and did 2 years of private practice and went to Canada to pursue Canadian licensing pathway. Passed MCCQE1 avg score of 245 and my interest was to get into surgical residency. However soon I know I wouldn't be able to continue the pathway due to my low scores. So I moved back to my home country (India) and about to get into General surgery through Indian PG entrance examination process. After completing my 3 yrs of PG in gen surg...what are my chances of pursuing USMLE pathway? Will it be worthwhile enduring the same? I'm willing to do USCE after my PG here. ? Pls honest opinion. P.s I'm unmarried and not worried abt my age. I just want to land in my dream land and course of study ( which is surgery).

Took it on 30 sep. after 12 months of full time prep. I'm an IMG. My resource was mehlman heavy (mehlman Anki.
Matured 80% of the cards with 85% retention ). And mehlman 3500Qs bank. One full pass with 61% corrects and then did the incorrects Yes I didn't use uw.
Nomes ranges from 58-64. (Nbmes 25-33). I felt | guess most of my questions in the earlier blocks but after 5-6
blocks i thought i was familiar with the questions and did well enough. My nomes are low but I couldn't postpone it anymore. Took the risk and FAILED today.
Can someone help me understand by what margin I failed.
(I’m like 5 bars from passing range) Can I retake it in a month or two. Or should I stick to ufap ?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I just received my step1 result and sadly i failed .
I don’t want to give up the dream of becoming a doctor in the US , i am a non us img , i’ve seen few post about being able to match with an attempt . How possible is it ? I am really confused on what to do now ..
i can’t do the retake until may because i am short on money , and also i want to apply for next cycle , will it be possible to study for step 2 take it around june , then study for step one for two months and take it in august ?
I am thinking about this because i know i need more time for step two than step one , also i mentioned i can’t schedule any exam until i have money so the timeline will work that way

hello
i am 5th yr med student
i want to start preparing for steps.
My question is do i start with systems (cardio→resp→renal→GIT etc) and within each system i do the patho, pharma, anatomy, embryo and so on.
or i start with subject wise like anatomy (all), embryo(all), biochemistry, pathology, pharma.
Or is there other way of approaching it. Someone please tell how to approach it. I always delay starting my preparation because of this question
