Five Below 68th/3rd Opening Soon!!!

I’d noticed an uptick of activity in the past few weeks at the 68th/3rd site and today one of construction workers confirmed that it’s a Five Below and it’s 95% complete and they’re targeting an Oct 31 opening date. They were unloading shelves with five below packaging so it tracks.

I really like their candy selection. Especially the 10 pieces of wrapped loose candy (like lemonheads, laffy taffy etc) that is 10 pieces for $1.50.

The candy store on 86th and York has this, it’s like 5/$1.

We are slowly being swallowed by placenessless forced on us by suburban transplants and private equity

This is pretty funny because the village suburb where I grew up in has far more unique shops and family owned businesses because it’s actually affordable for them. New York City is far more chains / big business / private equity owned companies. They maybe do a better job at hiding it than some big suburban shopping centers, but the reality is that there’s far less family owned businesses here. Ever notice how every bodega has the exact same products? Bars / restaurants owned by huge management companies that own dozens all across the city.

People used to move to NYC to get away from chains and enjoy the unique retail environment of this great city. Now we’re wetting ourselves over a Five Below, going to Domino’s, and worshipping Target. Yikes.

Don't forget Uber eats or Door Dashing Wonder or Naya. Going to Starbucks and Blank Street

It'll be open just in time for the weather to hit about 5 below zero

No joke, the first time I saw a Five Below I thought it sold ski gear.

I’ll be six feet below sooner than I’ll shop at a Five Below

TJ max going in the former HM store on 86. Not sure why we need it. There’s one on 59th

Five Below sells ultraprocessed snacks, low quality electronics and toys. They are never staffed well.

Literally, any item that you buy at this store will break after the first day. And at this point it really should be called $7.50 Below

My kids are going to be so excited!! I don’t think they’re any worse than Modern State. Anyway I’m glad the empty storefront will be a thing of the past. Maybe the scaffolding will come down as well.

Maybe just move back to wherever bumfuck you came from? Easier and cheaper and all these places exist for you there already. Win win.

Maybe you should crawl back into the hole you crawled out of.
