What’s with the TAMS kids // rant

I’m a junior transfer in STEM, and my situation is unique in that I already hold an AS in Pre-Nursing, but since I am pursuing pre-med I need some freshman prereqs that nurses don’t need, such as biology and gen chem.

Not sure about bio because I don’t really talk to many people there but in my chemistry class there are a million of these TAMS kids. I have never ever seen behavior like theirs either. They’re extremely cocky, self-important and rather arrogant, and then they just use a laptop to type notes. If you know anything about neurological you’d know typing notes doesn’t help anything.

I overheard a couple of them saying that professors should reserve the front rows for them. I use the front row desks because I use a binder to take notes in and it takes up space, rather than the tiny fold-out desks. These kids will literally shove their way past the outbound class and incoming class alike to get these front rows, it’s insanity.

Maybe it’s just because I’m 21 or something and they’re literal children but shut it down. Shut it all down, 17 year olds shouldn’t be on a college campus, point blank.

EDIT: This post seems to have found TAMS kids and possibly parents of TAMS kids. First of all, I’d like to say that because of my background of rigorous classes at my other college I do not coddle anyone. I expect people who want to work with me to be able to match me and that’s just true of any job anywhere. If they can’t do that then that’s their fault. Second of all, I’m not impressed because mommy and daddy labeled them as prodigies when they were little and now they’re here. We’re all here. I’m not going to sit around and excuse their behavior or whatever else just because they tested into college early. Hope this clears everything up.

Be careful parking at Gateway at Denton!

My car was towed by On The Road Again even though I parked in what appeared to be a Visitor space. When I arrived to pick up my car, the staff initially told me it was towed because I parked outside the Visitor area. After I explained that I was parked in the Visitor area and argued with them, they changed their explanation and said it was because I hadn’t registered my car. One employee even admitted they had the wrong information about where I parked.

They showed me a photo of my car that appeared to be cropped so the word “Visitor” was not visible. When I asked to take a picture of the photo myself, they refused and said it was against company policy. This made the situation feel very suspicious and frustrating.
The staff were extremely rude and unprofessional. One male employee told me to “fucking pay and leave" and said I wouldn’t get my car back unless I paid. He also threatened to call the police. When I tried to leave, they closed the gate and blocked my way out.

The employees I dealt with included a white American woman with blonde hair, a tall white American man medium hair, a white girl has black hair with a red highlight, and a Mexican employee who was somewhat heavyset and had long eyelashes. None of them showed a professional or respectful attitude toward me.

I’m sharing this experience so Gateway residents and visitors know to be careful

how’s the biology program?

• Upvotes

hello! i’m a community college student right now and i’m looking at universities to transfer to! unfortunately, i would not be able to attend UNT’s denton campus so i was thinking about UNT since they have a biology major. google said it was fine, although the vagueness kind of scares me as i was hoping for my future career to be lab/medical based. so how is it? any thoughts?

hi!! i'm a junior who recently switched majors into medical laboratory science in the college of science. i really just need to take chem & advanced science courses before applying to the program. i think i want to be a cytologist/cytotechnologist, but i am keeping my options open!!

i've had a non-traditional college journey. i'm 23 and have been in and out of college for different reasons since 2021. so i wanted to reach out and meet new people!!

even if you're not an MLS major/in the college of science, feel free to say hi!! i like meeting new people!! <3

Paid research study — $50 for a 1-hour virtual focus group (business & tech students)

Hi UNT — I’m a researcher at Veris Insights, a firm that studies how students think about employers. We’ve worked with companies like Meta, Goldman Sachs, and Uber on their recruiting.

We’re running virtual focus groups about how students perceive AT&T as an employer, and we’re trying to get a UNT session together before the study wraps up at the end of the month. We’ve already done sessions at Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, UT Austin, UT Dallas, Rutgers, and Brown.

Details:
•One hour, on Zoom, small group (4–6 students)
•$50, sent as an electronic gift card within 24 hours of the session
•Open to current business and tech/engineering/CS students, any year
•No prep — it’s just a conversation about your honest impressions. There are no right answers and we’re not selling anything.

Times available (CT): Wed 10/21 12pm, Fri 10/23 11am, Mon 10/26 5pm, Tue 10/27 6pm

Happy to answer questions in the comments — and if you’ve got a classmate who’d want in, send it their way.
