... Nigel Farage says charities that help asylum seekers reach UK should be prosecuted

u/IamBeingSarcasticFfs 16h ago
Anyone doing anything illegal should be prosecuted. For example taking foreign donations or Russian bribes.
26
u/glytxh 13h ago
No. It’s not illegal. They’ve had two of their best men inside the party produce an independent review of what’s happened and found nothing illegal was done.
You can trust them. Fascists don’t lie. Totally above board.
•
u/IamBeingSarcasticFfs 10h ago
My mistake. When you put it like that I actually feel foolish for raising it at all.

u/PomeloTraditional971 16h ago
If they are outside of the UK and the charities are aiding and abetting a crime for them to break legal immigration laws, then I agree with him. If they are in UK territorial waters and it's the RNLI rescuing a boat in distress then I don't. Pretty simple.
•
u/Astriania 11h ago
Yeah, if they're going after the RNLI with this I wouldn't support them, but the likes of Care 4 Calais are essentially promoting people trafficking, which is illegal both here and in France, and encouraging people to make dangerous and illegal journeys when we don't want them to come.

Yeah, I dont often find myself agreeing with corrupt shit stirrers like Nige, but depending on precisely what he means here, i dont think its a contraversial take.
Edit: This might be my moat downvoted comment this year...Maybe it is a contraversial take
21
u/matthieuC France 15h ago
> but depending on precisely what he means here
That's on purpose. You hear "I'll just enforce the law" and some other people hear "The royal navy will sink the RNLi boats"
34
u/drewlpool 15h ago
You know he's not just talking about dodgy charities though, right?
3
u/JamesR8800 European Union (UK) 15h ago
My "depending on precisely what he means" caveat is doing some fairly heavy lifting i confess. It might be foolish of my but i was assuming he meant only charities that were breaking existing laws.
Edit: Actually, reading his Statement again, i gave him too much credit. I do try to not instantly dismiss everything he says but he doesnt make it easy when he Talks shit so consistently.
24
u/drewlpool 15h ago
I think at this point you can safely assume the worst when it comes to Farage. When he's vague about something, it's often a dog whistle.
6
u/vinyljunkie1245 13h ago
My assumption from this is that he would include the RNLI in this to appease his voter base. At least he would try to. He has attacked the RNLI in the past and the public response humiliated him so I wouldn't put it past hime to do anything he could to get revenge.
•
u/Gisschace 7h ago
Yeah I think he’s misjudged this one, of all the charities to pick the RNLi is probably the one his target voters would support, only the British legion would be worst.
But then it further proves my theory that Farage doesn’t want any kind of power and will self sabotage whenever he gets close to it.
He makes enough money and has enough attention just stirring up shit from the sidelines.
3
u/GreyScope 13h ago
He’s being his usual traitorous self, supported by the mentally challenged bin lickers.
•
u/Gisschace 7h ago
Why do you try to not instantly dismiss everything he says? This is what people did with Trump, oh he doesn’t mean it. Farage knows exactly what he’s doing, what he says is what he means, he is very considered about what he says the aim is always to stir dissent. No need to sanewash it
•
u/JamesR8800 European Union (UK) 7h ago
Im juat conscious of the fact that if i only Listen to the politicians i feel more aligned to and completely ignore all the others, i might, one day, miss something i probably should have heard.
The liklihood that the source of that is going to be Farage or anyone else in his party is slim, but its never zero.
•
u/Gisschace 7h ago
Oh definitely do listen to him, but take him at his word. Don’t try and add caveats to what he says ‘oh he only means this’
People like him and Trump rely on reasonable people thinking ‘well it can’t be that bad’
6
5
u/GreyScope 13h ago
I think Nigel is changing the words “charities” and “people smugglers” to imply that charities in the uk that help (anyone in need) are aiding and abetting illegal activities .
Nigel being the well known 5 star disingenuous lying traitor cunt that we all know and sigh at.
3
•
u/Weirfish 3h ago
I think this is a dogwhistle, and I'm afraid you're falling for it.
To a sensible person, the sentiment reads as "charities that break the law should be prosecuted". To the people he's getting to, the sentiment reads "the RNLI should be prosecuted for saving certain drowning people".
1
u/Southernbeekeeper 14h ago
I think this is the trap. You can disagree with someone morally and politically but that doesn't mean everything they say is wrong.
•
28
u/FaceMace87 16h ago
Agreed. But only after we have prosecuted the traitors taking Russian bribes.
5
u/Psycho_Splodge 15h ago
Why not both? They're both a threat to our pretty secular in practice if not in name society. Also eject the Yankee preachers as well if they're here on a tourist visa.
10
u/FaceMace87 15h ago
Because unlike Farage the immigrants aren't going to take down an entire country to suit their masters.
As with any crime, you solve the more serious ones first.
-1
u/Psycho_Splodge 15h ago
Individually no, as a mass? Well what are they currently costing us?
2
u/oliverprose 15h ago
Probably still less than our Nige, given his prominent role in Brexit and reasonably strong suspicions that he was on a foreign payroll (other than the EU) at the time
-4
u/PrawnTyas 14h ago
Absolutely fuck all. Literal pennies down the back of the sofa in context with govt spending as a whole.
3
u/Psycho_Splodge 14h ago
I don't think literal billions on hotels are pennies when we're cutting stuff.
-4
u/PrawnTyas 14h ago
Firstly absolutely no one except Jenrick though hotels was a good idea.
Secondly just because ‘billions’ sounds like a big number to you, doesn’t mean it has a meaningful effect on how much the govt has to spend.
9
u/Psycho_Splodge 15h ago
I don't like agreeing with farage, but they charged unknowing lorry drivers £2k a head if they caught them in the back didn't they? How are charities supporting the migrants sat in Calais but based in the UK not considered complicit to illegal entry?
If he's on about charging the rnli I don't think that would work. We'd be better employing the Greek coastguard to push them back into french waters like they do with turkey 🤣
12
u/inebriatedWeasel 16h ago
Why? Helping asylum seekers isn't illegal.
I get the feeling he is properly shiting himself over something, he has come out with a lot of rage bait policies over the last few days.
23
u/CosmicBonobo 15h ago
There's been at least one case in the last week where the Home Office have raided an organisation helping asylum seekers from Pakistan fabricate documents and evidence to prove that they're gay and can't go back without facing persecution.
18
u/inebriatedWeasel 15h ago
But that is already illegal and not what he is talking about.
16
u/Darrenb209 Scotland 15h ago
not what he is talking about.
He is deliberately unclear who he is talking about, which allows him to shift who he claims he was talking about depending on who he speaks to.
-1
11
u/JustWhy1222 16h ago
100% and beyond any potential doubt. If these charities are helping facilitate people smuggling then they should be stripped of their status as a charity and be prosecuted.
That is in no way a controversial statement, or position for someone to hold.
14
u/jmeade90 16h ago
Except that's not what charities supporting asylum seekers are doing.
The closest you could argue is the RNLI, but they're legally required to assist anyone in distress at sea, regardless of their reason for being there.
14
u/JustWhy1222 16h ago
The closest you could argue would be care4calais, who have been caught red handed coaching people on how to exploit the asylum system in the UK.
8
8
u/PomeloTraditional971 16h ago
Yep, that was exactly who I thought of as well.
-7
u/jmeade90 16h ago
"Exploit the asylum system" is a very interesting way to frame "providing people with support navigating the asylum process".
8
u/Psycho_Splodge 15h ago
You mean how to play the system as an economic migrant who wouldnt be otherwise entitled to claim asylum?
-6
17
u/JustWhy1222 16h ago
They are literally on film telling people to pretend they are gay and from different countries because they are more likely to have a successful asylum application.

u/Anandya 15h ago
I feed children at Christmas. Including people seeking asylum. I am in breach.
Proving there's no Christian tradition to the Reform and right wing despite how much lip service they provide.
2
u/PomeloTraditional971 15h ago
Obviously feeding Children isn't a crime, advising them how to cross the channel and evade French and British immigration control, then coaching them on what to say to fraudulently claim asylum is. But you already knew that and are trying to do some kind of gotcha.
7
u/iamezekiel1_14 15h ago
Could we also have do the same to think tanks masquerading as charities please for the sake of fairness? Yes I am looking at you IEA and then we go to 260m round the corner to 55 Tufton Street.
3
u/Questionable_choi1ce 15h ago
What crime have they committed?
3
u/iamezekiel1_14 15h ago
They masquerade as an educational charity to get tax breaks whilst being funded by some of the richest people on earth and richest companies on earth. Why should the 99% be subsidising that shit?
0
u/Questionable_choi1ce 15h ago
The IEA’s charitable status is based on the claim that it does the below. How are you proving that it’s not doing these things?
- Research – conducting research and publishing books, papers, and briefings.
- Education – organising events, seminars, and conferences – many of them for students
- International – establishing partnerships with think tanks, mainly in Europe, Africa, and Asia
- Communicating and distributing our work through traditional and digital media. The first two organisations I found listed at tufton street are not registered as charities so are there any in particular you’re referring to?
1
u/iamezekiel1_14 14h ago
The Adam Smith Institute which like the IEA is also Atlas Network and is also within a couple of hundred meters of 55 Tufton Street was litterally reported to the Charities Comission in 2018 as people are starting to see how the Atlas Network operates its Think Tanks in this respect could be considered somewhat dubious. Matter of time until someone gets sonething to stick as they all broadly operate under the same approach. The fact that they are all supposed to be independent from other entities but are all sheltered by the Atlas Network (the IEA was patient zero in 1955) is one point and then there is the political campaigning point - lets not pretend the Tories or Reform haven't done speeches from there. They tread a very fine line which usually sits in a world of grey by design. Sooner or later that runs out.
2
u/Questionable_choi1ce 13h ago
None of that remotely proves they aren’t fulfilling their stated activities which the charities commission demonstrably considers charitable. You can’t prosecute people because you don’t like their economic views.
1
u/coffeewalnut08 15h ago
Charities do much more for our society than Nigel Farage ever will.
Charities fill in the gaps of government support, ensuring that the most disadvantaged people aren’t completely deprived of the necessities of life.
What has Nigel achieved that is similar in terms of meaningfulness? Nothing.
He uses politics as a weapon to divide people and boost his profile, not as a way to empower society.
1
u/MilosEggs 15h ago
Be specific Nige. Tells us exactly what charities and what it is they have done.
Otherwise it’s just more rabble rousing toss.
1
u/liaminwales 16h ago
Well yes if they brake the law, I relay dont like how we are in a time of selective prosecution. If law's are not used remove them from the books, the gray zone of 'it's not legal but tolerated' opens up policing to selective punishment.
-1
u/Kyr-Shara 15h ago
Prosecuting people helping genuine asylum seekers will push more people to illegal human traffickers
6
u/Psycho_Splodge 15h ago
There are no genuine asylum seekers sat in northern France only economic migrants.

Personally, I think all political parties should be democracies, and politicians promoting Russian talking points should be arrested. But that's just me.

u/Totally_TWilkins 15h ago
How funny. I thought Russia and Belarus were the ones doing the legwork when it comes to helping asylum seekers leave their countries of origin and move to Europe…
