Release Unraid OS 7.4.0-rc1 Now Available

Thumbnail unraid.net
84 Upvotes

The first 7.4 release candidate is here, focused on visibility and control. Highlights:

  • Docker containers can connect to multiple custom networks (persisting through updates), plus a per-container memory limit field in Advanced View
  • New task tray for background plugin, Docker, and VM operations — queue tasks and reopen them from any browser tab
  • Mover progress and status tracking, and hard links preserved across subfolders of the same share
  • Plugin installs show live progress; update checks run independently so one slow plugin no longer blocks the page
  • Configurable physical power-button actions, working alongside the Dynamix System Buttons plugin
  • Expanded Intel, MediaTek, and Realtek wireless support, plus support for running under Hyper-V
  • Security: OpenTerminal input validation, public IPv6 addresses anonymized in diagnostics, and certificate verification restored for public notification agents
  • Kernel updated to 6.18.54-Unraid, Docker 29.8.2, ZFS 2.4.4 — same base packages as 7.3.3

BIG Thanks to community contributors junkerderprovinz, Mainfrezzer, Joly0, chodeus, and Sacred-Shadow.

Unraid 8 Q&A with Alex & Eli: Licensing, Fedora/UCore Transition, UI Wizards, Testing, and More!

Alex (aka Ironic Badger) and Eli (Head of Product at Unraid) recently answered community questions from Reddit regarding the upcoming Unraid 8 release.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YokafZ9WVeI

Here are the key takeaways:

Licensing

  • Zero changes are coming to existing or new licenses. Basic, Pro, Lifetime, and activation codes remain fully valid, preserving community trust.

Fedora & Universal Blue (UCore)

  • Unraid 8 shifts from Slackware to a lightweight, immutable base distro powered by Fedora.
  • Expect faster boot times (under 30 seconds), kernel swapping choices, ZFS snapshot-based updates via GRUB for easy rollbacks, and optional Secure Boot.

Plugins & Developers

  • Transitioning to an API-driven, modular system with configuration builders and Home Assistant-style permission guardrails.
  • Dedicated developer documentation and official code samples will make migration and custom creation seamless.

Apps, Docker Compose & VMs

  • Existing apps and VMs will carry over with zero functional regressions.
  • Adds native, front-and-center Docker Compose support alongside a live-previewing VM XML editor.

Security & Authentication

  • Containers and VMs will no longer run as root by default (moving to QEMU/non-root users) to counter modern AI-era threats.
  • Integrates Traefik as a reverse proxy, bringing out-of-the-box OIDC support, with passkeys planned for later point releases.

UI, Drive Management & Testing

  • New step-by-step UI wizards will guide users through stressful tasks like drive replacements and parity rebuilding.
  • Backed by a brand-new QA department running thousands of automated unit and end-to-end tests.
  • A private alpha is launching soon, followed by a public beta targeted for early next year.

Lost a disk. Array is good thanks to parity. Need some advice on replacing failed HDD.

Hey guys. I'm on Unraid 7.0.0 (Yeah, I know - I just haven't had an upgrade go well so I haven't done it in a while).

My server consisted of four 6TB Seagate IronWolf drives and an SSD cache drive.
One of the 6TB drives is parity, the other are data drives.
This morning I lost one of the 6TB data drives. I tried swapping SATA and power cables but no luck. I get the old death-click on POST and the BIOS says that SATA slot is empty so she's dead.

I have an 8TB drive lying around so I think I'll use that - and you can probably see where this question is going now.

The parity drive needs to be the largest hard drive so I can't simply replace the failed 6TB drive with an 8TB drive.

As I'm typing this out I'm realizing that I probably need to add the 8TB as a 2nd parity drive, wait for the array re-build, then change the 6TB parity drive to a data drive.
That'll leave me with three 6TB data drives (as it was before) and an 8TB data parity drive.

Is this the way to go? Any gotchas I need to know about?

How do I undo a Docker container update?

I've had problems with Frigate where it chews up all available memory (96GB) on my Unraid server. Lately it's been running fine with no issues (for at least a month), which I attribute to the previous update fixing whatever the problem was. Day before yesterday I was notified that there was an update for the Frigate container, so I ran it, and now the memory problems are back... container crashed within a couple hours. How do I go back to the previous update? I read a thread that tells me to go to the maintainer website and choose the tagged image version I want, but it looks like there's a new tagged version every few minutes, so I have no idea which one I'm supposed to choose. Any help?

New build after 10 years. Where to start?

My current setup is about 10 years old now, including the day one drives, so it's time for an update. The current server is a i5-3470, 8gb RAM and 12TB.

I picked up a brand new TERRAMASTER F4-424 Pro very cheaply. I've also got two Seagate EXOS X18 14TB drives going into it (1 for parity, 1 for storage) with the intent to expand in the future. I've also picked up a 1TB M2 for the cache drive.

I'm looking to put it all together this weekend but given how long it's been since I setup my first server, I'm sure times have changed. Where should I be reading or watching to learn how to beat configure the new build? I know SpaceInvaderOne was the goat back in the day.

My intent is also to setup the new server on a trial licence, boot both servers side by side to transfer data over, power down the old faithful for good and then transfer it's licence over. Any issues with that?

Server is pingable and that is it

My server was working well last night with no issues.

Today I went into Plex and the server is visible with all my media I went in and attempted to play some of it but there is a playback error when trying to play the media.

I attempted to go into the WebUI for Unraid and it cannot connect to the server, it is pingable via terminal tho.

I restarted my router with no resolution as well.

What should be my order of operations to resolve this and diagnose the issue?

Thank you!

spare 1tb 2.5" ssd. Ideas?

I have a spare 1tb 2.5" ssd that i'm looking for ideas on what to do with it.

My unraid server already has 2 m.2 1tb cache drives, one as a backup, and my main array is 96tb of storage.

I have an additional m.2 ssd for VM's

Just trying to think of some ideas of what I can use this for, otherwise I'll put it in my PC as a downloads folder dump or something. ( If anyone has any ideas for my main pc )

Thanks!

NVMe cache drive drops off the bus every boot since 7.3.0 → 7.3.3, persists after rollback

Post image
7 Upvotes

Updated Unraid 7.3.0 → 7.3.3 this morning. Since then, one of my two WD_BLACK SN7100 1TB drives (btrfs RAID1 cache, firmware 7615M0WD) disappears about 1 minute after the pool mounts, on every boot:

nvme nvme1: controller is down; will reset: CSTS=0xffffffff → Disabling device after reset failure: -19

  • Rolled back to 7.3.0: still happens.
  • Booted with nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0 pcie_aspm=off pcie_port_pm=off: no change.
  • The identical twin drive is fine. The failing one is in the chipset M.2 slot (MSI PRO B760-P WIFI DDR4, BIOS 1.F0), the good one in the CPU slot.
  • SMART on the failing drive: PASSED, 2 media errors, no PCIe AER errors logged.

It was 100% stable before the update. Has anyone seen an update leave an NVMe drive in a state that survives a downgrade, or SN7100 dropouts on 6.18 kernels? Thanks!

after updating my dockers i updated UNraid from 7.3.2 to 7.3.3.

after reboot my ETH0 was gone and i had no connection to my server.

Had to reinstall the rt8127 drivers. Setup my Eth0 from scratch.
i use one of those pcie4.0 x1 10Gb SFP+ cards.

it works now but damn. Can the RT8127 driver be added to the kernel??

Unraid no longer reboots after installed Nvidia drivers

I installed this, and now when I restart/reboot my server it doesn't boot into the system anymore. Every time I reboot I have to go to the server, plug in my monitor and keyboard and boot into the bios and then save & exit with no changes. I make 0 changes to the bios, I just boot into it and save an exit and then it boots.

The bios has it set to boot from USB, and I can see in the boot menu that the first item listed is the USB drive plugged into the machine. It's always been like this, so the boot order has remain unchanged.

This is super frustrating and I can't figure out what's going wrong here. I found this post where they say they installed the Ich777 version and it worked, but I can't find nividia-driver made by ich777. Should I move my install to internal boot?

I'm sure i'm missing something super simple, any help appreciated.

[SOLUTION] Disable quick boot in bios. Once I did this my system started booting normally all the time.

Should I use a mirrored boot pool?

I’m brand new to unRAID, and I have my hardware assembled for my first build. I’m starting small with just one data and parity drive and one cache nvme. I’ve acquired two Innodisk 3ME USB drives, and I’m trying to decide if I want to put them both in a mirrored boot pool, or just run a single boot drive and keep the other as a spare. The main pro I see for the boot pool is the redundancy, but this server isn’t super critical. A little downtime to replace the boot drive is not a huge issue, and from what I’ve read, it’s a pretty easy process. I’m planning on a Starter license, so if I go with the boot pool, that only leaves one device left on the license.

If it sounds like I’m leaning toward using a single boot drive, you aren’t wrong. I’m looking for input in case there is some facet of this I’m overlooking.

I need some tips/advice/recommendations on an upcoming server migration across VLANs.

This might be a bit of a long-winded post and I'm sorry in advance.

So I have an unRaid server currently and it resides on my default LAN with an "allow all" firewall rule. I know this isn't the best practice so I wanted to isolate it on my "server" vlan (192.168.50.x) and lock down the firewall rules, so it only has access to what it needs to and nothing else. I'm hoping I could get some advice/recommendations on what to do before the migration to make this easier on me. I have about 40 containers and while most of them will automatically update their IP addresses, some of them have custom configurations that I will have to manually change, and I don't want to forget about any. For instance, to connect my Sonarr/Radarr/Lidarr containers to my download client (QB), I had to manually set the IP address of my server (192.168.0.70) because it's wrapped in a VPN and using the hostname of the container doesn't work. I'm curious if there is anywhere to fix this by maybe making an alias or something? I also have a Home Assistant VM running on the server as well and I've read that's it's best to keep it on the same VLAN as the host server, but I would love to hear your opinion on this as well. If anyone has done this before, I would like to know special firewall rules that would need to be created to keep everything connected correctly. I will most likely have an "allow all" firewall rule that I enable/disable to test if certain functionalities work but I'm hoping someone has done this before and could save me the time and the pain of figuring it out myself since this is a production environment.

I have the network architecture already set up; I just have to pull the plug and alter the server's IP reservation to make the change.

These are all the containers I run currently:

Plex-Media-Server

AudioBookShelf

Jellyfin

Unraid 7.1.4: Complete system freezes, BTRFS corruption, Plex DB issues, and intermittent Ethernet problems. Hardware or software?

Update: First off, thank you to everyone who chimed in with advice. Really appreciate all the help!

Quick TLDR on where things stand:

  1. MemTest86: Ran it as basically everyone recommended. Completed all four passes, 48/48 tests passed, zero errors whatsoever.
  2. Unraid: Updated to 7.3.3. Booted successfully, array started, and all disks are present and showing healthy on the dashboard.
  3. NVMe: Ran an extended SMART self-test on the cache drive, which completed without error.
  4. BTRFS: Still showing 172 cumulative corruption errors, but these are historical counts. I'm not sure whether they're a symptom of the improper shutdowns or potentially part of what caused the freezes in the first place.
  5. Docker/plugins: All containers, apps, and plugins are up to date and running normally.
  6. System logs: Went through the syslog after getting everything back up and running, and I'm not seeing any errors or warnings that have me particularly concerned at this point.

As of right now, everything seems to be functioning exactly as it should. That said, I've been here before, so I'm cautiously optimistic rather than declaring victory.

I'm also definitely buying a UPS to help protect against power interruptions going forward.

Hopefully the Unraid update, troubleshooting, and everything else I've done over the past couple of days, and really the last two weeks, have addressed whatever was causing these random freezes.

For now, I'm going to let it run and see how things go.

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to help and point me in the right direction. I really appreciate it!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone,

I'm hoping to get some advice from the community because I'm genuinely struggling to figure out what's happening with my Unraid server.

A little background:

I've been running essentially the same Unraid setup since May 2025, and for the better part of 17 months, it's been almost flawless.

I haven't historically dealt with random system freezes, recurring connectivity problems, or filesystem corruption. The server has generally just worked, which is why the sudden increase in issues over the past several weeks has been so concerning.

We experienced quite a few power outages in June 2026, and there was one occasion when the server had trouble rebooting after an outage. Otherwise, it recovered normally, and I didn't notice an ongoing pattern of instability afterward.

We've also experienced some prolonged ISP and home network disruptions more recently. I don't necessarily believe those are responsible for the Unraid problems, but I'm mentioning them in case there's some relationship I haven't considered.

The major change has been over the past two to four weeks, particularly since October 2. In approximately 11 days, I've experienced two complete system freezes, Plex database problems, BTRFS corruption, and continued questions about network performance.

That's a dramatic departure from how this server has behaved since I originally built it.

Hardware and configuration

  • Unraid: 7.1.4
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
  • Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B650M-A AX II
  • BIOS: Version 2613, April 2024
  • RAM: 32GB TeamGroup DDR5-6000 (2x16GB), running at JEDEC 4800 MT/s, 1.1V
  • Cache: SK hynix Gold P31 1TB NVMe, single-device BTRFS pool
  • Array: Five 20TB drives, one parity and four data drives, XFS
  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super for Plex hardware transcoding
  • Ethernet: Realtek RTL8125B 2.5GbE, Linux r8169 driver
  • Network: Frontier 2.5Gbps fiber, TP-Link Deco XE75 mesh with wired backhaul and 2.5Gbps switches
  • Docker: Plex, DelugeVPN, Krusader, Seerr, and others

Issue 1: Complete system freezes on October 2 and October 12

On October 2, my server experienced a complete system freeze. The WebGUI became inaccessible, and the server appeared to be entirely unresponsive.

I subsequently ran into Plex database issues and had to work through recovery.

Then, on October 12, it happened again.

This wasn't simply a Docker container crashing or Plex becoming unavailable. The entire server appeared to lock up.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to identify any useful log entries immediately preceding either freeze, which makes determining the cause difficult.

I've since enabled syslog mirroring to the USB flash drive in the hope of capturing more information if it happens again.

Issue 2: BTRFS corruption and Plex database problems

Following the October 12 freeze, I discovered BTRFS checksum errors on my NVMe cache drive.

The device statistics showed:

Write errors: 0
Read errors: 0
Flush errors: 0
Corruption errors: 172
Generation errors: 0

A BTRFS scrub identified five corrupted Plex-related files, including thumbnail and database recovery files.

I removed the damaged files, and a subsequent scrub completed without additional errors.

I was able to recover Plex using an October 10 database backup and have since backed up the application data.

I realize the 172 corruption errors are cumulative and don't necessarily represent errors that all occurred on October 12.

What I'm trying to determine is whether the filesystem corruption is contributing to the freezes or whether the freezes and subsequent forced restarts are contributing to the corruption.

Issue 3: NVMe SMART reports no obvious hardware problems

The NVMe drive is a 1TB SK hynix Gold P31.

Despite the BTRFS checksum errors, the drive's SMART data looks healthy:

  • Overall SMART health: PASSED
  • Temperature: approximately 42°C
  • Percentage used: 2%
  • Media and data integrity errors: 0
  • Two short SMART self-tests passed

I'm aware that SMART isn't definitive, but I haven't found evidence conclusively identifying the NVMe as defective.

Issue 4: Intermittent Ethernet and network performance problems

Over roughly the same period, I've also experienced some unusual networking behavior.

My motherboard has an onboard Realtek RTL8125B 2.5GbE controller using the Linux r8169 driver.

The network itself consists of Frontier 2.5Gbps fiber, TP-Link Deco XE75 mesh routers, wired backhaul, and 2.5Gbps switches.

We've had significant ISP and broader home network disruptions, so I'm cautious about attributing every connectivity issue to Unraid.

However, I also noticed inconsistent throughput during troubleshooting.

The Unraid interface currently reports:

Speed: 2500Mb/s
Duplex: Full
Link detected: yes

The link partner also advertises 2500baseT/Full.

Despite that, my iperf3 testing between a Windows desktop and Unraid produced approximately:

  • 930–950Mbps using a single stream
  • 950–987Mbps aggregate using four parallel streams

I understand those numbers could reflect a gigabit bottleneck somewhere else in the network path rather than a faulty NIC.

The Deco gateway itself has tested around 2.2–2.3Gbps in both directions, and the Unraid Ethernet link is currently negotiating correctly.

I'm mentioning this because I'm curious whether the Realtek driver, motherboard, or another component could be contributing to broader instability.

Issue 5: Power outages and possible hardware instability

Another piece of history is that we experienced multiple power outages in June.

On one occasion, Unraid had difficulty rebooting following an outage. Otherwise, it generally recovered without issues.

I didn't immediately associate those events with any lasting problems, particularly because the server continued operating afterward.

But given the recent freezes and filesystem errors, I'm wondering whether power-related events could have contributed to a problem that is only now becoming apparent.

I'm also considering the possibility of RAM or motherboard instability.

My system uses a Ryzen 5 7600X and 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory, but the RAM is running at JEDEC 4800 MT/s rather than EXPO speeds.

The motherboard is running ASUS BIOS 2613 from April 2024.

I haven't completed a MemTest86 run yet, although that's something I'm planning to investigate.

Current status as of October 13

After extensive troubleshooting on October 12:

  • The server is currently responsive and operating normally.
  • The latest BTRFS scrub completed without further errors.
  • No additional checksum errors have appeared since the cleanup.
  • Plex has been recovered and is operational.
  • The NVMe SMART data continues to look healthy.
  • The scheduled overnight mover completed successfully.
  • The Ethernet interface is negotiating at 2.5Gbps.
  • No new concerning syslog entries have appeared.
  • Syslog mirroring is now enabled.
  • I've created and verified compressed application backups on an external drive.

I haven't replaced any hardware or made major configuration changes in response to these issues.

Questions for the community

  1. Has anyone experienced a previously stable Unraid server suddenly developing complete freezes and BTRFS corruption after more than a year of reliable operation?
  2. Could unstable or defective DDR5 RAM cause both the freezes and checksum errors, even when operating at JEDEC speeds?
  3. Could the NVMe be responsible despite healthy SMART results and successful self-tests?
  4. Has anyone encountered stability problems involving Ryzen 7000, the ASUS PRIME B650M-A AX II, or older AM5 BIOS versions?
  5. Could the Realtek RTL8125B controller or Linux r8169 driver contribute to complete system freezes?
  6. Is it plausible that earlier power outages caused latent hardware or filesystem problems, or would you consider that unlikely?
  7. Could the BTRFS corruption be a consequence of the hard freezes rather than their underlying cause?
  8. What would you investigate first to isolate the problem without unnecessarily replacing hardware?

Ultimately, I'm trying to understand what changed.

This exact setup ran almost flawlessly from May 2025 until recently. Now, within a matter of weeks, and particularly since October 2, I've experienced more significant problems than I did during the previous 17 months combined.

I realize some of these issues could be completely unrelated, especially the ISP and network disruptions. But the timing has me wondering whether there's a common denominator.

I'm not opposed to replacing RAM, an NVMe drive, or other hardware if necessary. I'd just prefer to have some evidence pointing to a particular component before spending money.

I'd really appreciate any advice, diagnostic suggestions, or similar experiences from other Unraid users.

Thanks in advance!

Docker tab search & Filter

Post image
15 Upvotes

I made a plugin that adds search and filters to the Docker tab

https://forums.unraid.net/topic/200879-plugin-docker-search-live-search-and-quick-filters-for-the-docker-page/

Got tired of scrolling 80+ containers, so: live search (name/image/IP/port/folder, plus image: / is:unhealthy style filters) and one-click chips for running / stopped / healthy / unhealthy / updates / autostart. It plays nicely with folder.view2. Screenshots and install URL: https://github.com/davidcoulson/unraid-docker-search

Disclosure: built with an AI coding assistant (Claude), human-guided throughout. I directed the design and ran it on my own server. A second AI (OpenAI Codex) reviewed the code before release: nothing critical, and I fixed the six smaller bugs it found (input handling, stale data, a folder-refresh quirk, an autostart count lag, endpoint error handling). Details in the forum thread.

Email notification - events filter?

Hello,
Testing unraid out on a UGreen NAS for the first time. UGreen has no email notifications, so any is a plus… but I was assuming there would be some customization in unraid on what you can select to receive.

From what I recall using a synology a few years ago they had pages of options to select or unselect for things you would get notified on. Does unraid not have this level of detail? From what I can see in the notification section you just have “system notification: enabled” and “notification entity: notices, warning, alerts”

Thanks

Can't access Unraid WebGUI from my PC

For some reason, I can't access my unraid from my PC. However, it works just fine on my phone.

I'm not using a VPN. Using a different browser is not helping. PC and phone are both on the same wireless connection.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Edit: I'm not sure how this happened, but when I was checking from my phone, I noticed that my TailScale had been disabled. I re-enabled it and now I can access my server from my PC again. Really weird. Not sure what happened there. Thanks for all the suggestions though!

CMP 170HX cmpunlocker for Unraid

Not sure if this is of interest to anyone, but I finally gave in and bought a CMP 170HX after making the mistake of not buying a Blackwell 6000 Pro when I got a very compelling offer.

I didn't want to set up another server for the card since my Unraid server still has a PCIe slot to spare, so I decided to create a script to install the necessary driver and unlocker on Unraid.

I currently own an 8GB CMP 170HX, which this script successfully unlocks to 64GB of VRAM. With the PCIe mod installed, it also successfully negotiates PCIe 2.0 x16, which helps a lot. It should support 10GB cards as well, but I haven't tested that myself. This worked out so well that I actually have another one on the way.

This script was written with heavy AI assistance, but all testing was done by humans. :)
If you find this useful, please leave a star on the repo! Nobody has money left for coffee anyway due to these crazy GPU prices... ;)

Used space on empty disk

Hello everyone, I am fairly new to Unraid. I have 4 hdds running and it seems like 25% of each disk space is used but in reality all except for one + the parity should be empty. I read about system overhead but since they are 2tb, 500gb seems to much for me. Does anyone know what could be the reason?

Sata or hba card for unraid in x4 slot

I've been researching using a sata or hba card for unraid and have been running into confusion. Moving my unraid build to a new system and the mobo only has 4 sata ports. Looming for a card to add an additional 4 ports. The sata cards I have seen are hit or miss on whether they natively work in unraid and most lsi type cards are x8. So would a 9207 or 9300 x8 work well for 2 to 4 drives in an electrical x4 slot? Thanks in advance.
