I love game development, but I can't finish any of my projects. Why?

You might benefit from having a development partner that holds you accountable.

What motivated you to develope your own engine?
 in  r/gameenginedevs •  1d ago

Curiosity and I like having full control and access to my technology.

Anyone else feel demotivated by AI?
 in  r/gameenginedevs •  3d ago

Not at all. The ability to conjure code into existence via prompting doesn’t give you a mental model of the program or domain expertise.

A Harvard study concluded that AI coding tools do not lead to an overall productivity benefit, they just transfers the bottleneck from typing to reviewing, which is a lot less satisfying for most of us.

If it gets more expensive in the future then the value proposition will worsen even more.

Unless it improves dramatically it seems like a dead end to me. Short cuts always come at a price.

How hard is it to learn to make a game from scratch?
 in  r/SoloDevelopment •  5d ago

By stating “from scratch” do you mean without an established game engine. Either way it’s difficult. You need to learn mathematics and polishing the game takes skill and patience.

How Do Programmers Stay Focused for 8+ Hours Without Losing Their Minds?
 in  r/learnprogramming •  7d ago

I would say I can usually code for around 3 hours straight without needing a short break, unless I’m obsessed with a problem than probably 4-5 max.

Resources Collision Detection and Physics Series for Simulation Programmers

Hello,

I have a series on collision detection and physics programming that could be useful for Robot Simulation Programmers.

I explain the algorithms and techniques in more depth than most tutorials, deriving some of the mathematics and explaining the engineering trade offs of competing approaches.

Physics Series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iuOYFrjfXs&list=PLYuY7qeQZcWZrK1RD-3-0Se4irqU5tBAA&pp=sAgC

Collision Detection Series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZJXb5AF6NM&list=PLYuY7qeQZcWaofUHmLQy2q7xG9eiSxk1W

Any feedback is welcome.

Help Collision Detection Series

Hi Someone in this group said that dealing with collision geometry was often still a manual part of your workflow.

I have a series on Collision Detection that might be useful:

I also have a developing series in Physics Programming:

Jordan’s the only player I’ve seen who had to duck his head to avoid hitting the rim.

Hypothetical 1 vs 1 talks are the lowest form of basketball talk
 in  r/NBATalk •  13d ago

“There is 0 correlation between how good a player is 1-on-1, and how good they are at actually playing basketball. “

Nonsensical. Isolation plays and one on one defence are aspects of basketball.

If you were a NBA GM and your franchise needed an offensive guard, who would you draft? Kobe Bryant or Steph Curry?
 in  r/NBATalk •  13d ago

Kobe. He’s more versatile offensively and is more likely to go on a scoring tear that could single handedly win a game.

Scoring was much lower in the 2000s

He can’t even handle double teams well.

Yes, this is part 4 in an ongoing series. I might have 20+ videos on Physics Programming because it’s my biggest passion.

I go through how I separate general updates from physics updates, why I use a fixed timestep, how the accumulator works, and what happens when the simulation starts falling behind.

I explain the reasoning behind the design decisions and why I rejected the alternatives. I show the implementation of the loop.
