I've fostered ferrets and had up to 8 at one time, I will say that the bedding is a big deal. You need to wash it weekly and I actually use puppy pads as opposed to litter boxes I found it much easier to clean up and less SMELL. Another thing with ferrets is also their ears need to be cleaned they do emit a smell from their ears but bathing them will make them smell worse in the long run as it depletes the oils in their fur. I would say for sure the blankets are the biggest thing.
