Dying Fetus Birds ❤️

-8

u/michal6zone Aug 28 '26

Do you guys really like this? In my opinion, the song has been completely misinterpreted. Sadly, none of the titular birds survived this treatment. All the birds don’t fly away freely, they were simply crushed and gutted under the wheels of a merciless Dying Fetus steamroller. Where the original gave us space, freedom, energy and a sense of hope, Dying Fetus brings nothing but tar, dirt and aggression pushed far beyond what the song ever needed. It feels less like a reinterpretation and more like watching something beautiful being buried alive under several tons of brute force. This particular approach completely misses the point for me.

Shut up

1

u/zilef6431 Aug 29 '26

Right? Like, Dying Fetus is your favorite band's favorite band lol.

2

u/Fitzy564 Aug 28 '26

I thought that version was terrible. The OG is the best.

1

u/itsMrBiscuits Aug 30 '26

i like the cover but that's a very expressive take on why it's not for you and i enjoyed reading it

16

u/Feisty_Diet_3744 Aug 28 '26

Dying Fetus full fucking sent it, man. Gnarly version no doubt!

16

u/massagemyshoulders Aug 28 '26

Floating Points thooooo!! Sheshhh 🔥 🔥

3

u/27thStreet Aug 28 '26

He's so good. I keep expecting to be let down by FP, but I just keep getting blown away.

4

u/jarodswegmeister Aug 28 '26

That must be the best remix on the album ngl, I had higher expectations for Kettama and Four Tet and they were both good, but Floating Points completely knocked it out the park - going straight into all my sets for the foreseeable hahahah

1

u/assumeform Sep 02 '26

Yeah the Flo Po track is a certified banger, think the Kettama and Tet versions of Look Out For Me though feel super appropriate for them to slot into their DJ sets.

u/kirbypuckett Aug 28 '26

Who needs coffee when you got Turnstile x Slayyyter before 8am?

edit: The Slayyyter version

25

u/cacapepee Aug 28 '26

SIR ELTON JOHN YOU MADMAN! This whole release is SO good!

10

u/hollowcrown51 Aug 28 '26

slayyyter and Elton John are the two best ones imo! Also really like the Angel Du$t version of Sunshower.

1

u/Kourtney007 Aug 29 '26

I fux with it!!!

33

u/Shelmer75 Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26

Finally. Heck yes.

ETA: Got downvoted for being excited it was released? Lmao. I’m in Australia and been waiting all damn day for this thing not knowing what time it’s dropping. Smh.

8

u/ambassadortim Aug 28 '26

I upvoted you because it's important to get excitement fro things no matter what others think.

3

u/Shelmer75 Aug 28 '26

Haha you’re a real one. I was less caring, more just totally confused.

7

u/alvvays11 Aug 28 '26

That A.D version of Sunshower is making me want an entire album of Turnstile covers from them

3

u/hokahey23 Aug 28 '26

TURNNNNSTIIIIILE!!!!

2

u/HousingLast2239 Aug 28 '26

They would have crushed Slow Dive, but they rocked Sunshower too

5

u/MLXx Aug 28 '26

It was coo but made me want to listen to the original lol

18

u/lessthanleggit Aug 28 '26

Slayyyter Goddamn!!

6

u/viixiimcmlxxxix Aug 28 '26

I really thought it was gonna be Hayley on BIRDS but damn, Slayyyter absolutely bodied it!!!

18

u/Minute-Reference-924 Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26

Ain't gunna lie, I wanted Hayley on SEEIN' STARS but EltonJohn Elton Johning w/ those dramatic, layered vocal harmonies, restylized delivery of "staaaaaars again" and piano is fun. Also, I wish the delayed solo was kept in or we worked into a 2 beat delayed solo dual guitar solo/duet type deal.

CEILING is a really cool reimagining. It suits Williams amd shows off vocal chops. I love the tone of her voice and ability to carry a melody with power with measured control.

I genuinely was expecting these 2 features to be switched, because of my personal tastes for each artists. That said, what I got was really cool and I'm happy for it.

SUNSHOWER: Tripp sounds so laidback 😂 the way he says "rain" the first time... the ending is so Angel$tile.

DULL: Chanel Beads had me doing the Debbie Ryan smirk because this version has me feeling something. The reverse reverb and and choral rise and fall coming in and out was neat.

LOFM: Ketamma played this at Coachella if I'm right? I really like it.

BIRDS: Slayyyter why didn't you play this at your Salt Shed after show 🥺🥺 1:21 though.

Just wanted to hit my favorites. I am really happy to have an album of songs I like reimagined in ways I likely wouldn't have ever asked for. I think they were executed well.

But I can't lie, I'm a T+S boy but SEEIN STARS is one of my unexpected favorite songs and after Hayley sang with them like that one day, I really hoped for an extended cut with her as more of a duet. But I still have that video for it so I'll live.

EDIT:

LIGHT DESIGN: Blood Orange continue to be the wonderfully diverse muscian you are. This was so delicate in a warm, comforting way.

DREAMING: Dan Decon this has to grown on me. I don't think is bad I would just never listen to this had I not known the original song. By 3:37 my initial distaste faded, I like how this challanged some of my preferences.

I CARE: This sounds exactly like what I would have expected a Faye Webster song to sound like. I think her rearrangement highlights a strong initial songwritting.

Her delivery of that refrain is so nice. This song is nice, I wanna peacefully read a light novel and smoke wee- eat an edible to this with a matcha late.

Will probably update with my a full listen but had to rundown my favoruite songs and artists I was super curious about. As the only Turnstile fan to enjoy SEEIN' STARS (I'm being sarcastic) I'm actually really enjoying this Elton version on repeat. The twinkling piano and generational drama in his delivery and playing just make me feel like that original did: Sexy af and locked in a groove.

u/g0ldfinger47 Aug 28 '26

I mean, its all good/interesting, but after a week or so I cant see myself revisiting it too often, bar a small handful.

6

u/Burial44 Aug 28 '26

We got a fuckin Dying Fetus Turnstile cover in 2026.

4

u/Ok_Owl9641 Aug 28 '26

Well, I didn’t expect to wake up to Elton John singing Stars, but here we are.

5

u/gmangaming3243 Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 29 '26

This whole thing is nuts, wouldn't have expected half of these collabs ever. Oklou, faye webster, and elton john lmao, but every one is a banger

4

u/fxcker Aug 28 '26

Floating Points Sole is so fucking sick

7

u/No_Actuator_382 Aug 28 '26

Every song is special in its own way. I like some songs more than others. However, I think what makes Turnstile unique is that they draw on sooo many influences and collaborate with sooo many artists, yet their sound remains completely their own - one that no one can imitate.

12

u/Alvin3792 Aug 28 '26

Whelp I was really excited but I mostly hated every new version. Only one I really enjoyed is Oklou’s Light Design

4

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '26

Right? I feel like im watching a fresh instagram reels account. Some songs feel like they had a 3 days deadline to finish the piece… i was so excited and now that i listened to it, i feel really disappointed

4

u/Alvin3792 Aug 28 '26

Yeah something about most of the tracks feels unfinished or rushed. Like honestly quite jarring to listen to lol it just made me want to put on the OG album.

Charli set the bar too high with her remix album of brat lol

0

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '26

Honestly, the new heart designs ep was so much better

3

u/Cecil4029 Aug 28 '26

Oh shit I have to go to bed but first thing in the AM!

3

u/Icy-Conclusion1398 Aug 28 '26

Dull - ag cook version is reminding me of Linkin park 🔥

1

u/assumeform Sep 02 '26

I've been recently getting more into Turnstile - and just listening to this remix/reimagining album and have had this parallel thought come across at several points.

3

u/slowpoke1379 Aug 28 '26

this is so fun! i especially love slayyyter, elton john, dan deacon, and AG cook's versions but i'm not done listening yet. what a fun way to reimagine this album and also discover artists i've never heard of. HAYLEY WILLIAMS!!!!!! they're so cool for doing this.

5

u/therealfan1212 Aug 28 '26

The Hayley Williams version of “ceiling” is so good. Also love the Kettama version of “Look Out For Me”

9

u/GetReady4Action Aug 28 '26

damn, was really hoping for an expanded version of Seein’ Stars with Hayley Williams.

6

u/Zooloo08 Aug 28 '26

Many of these are not really for me, but im happy you all like it.

2

u/t_adams0525 Aug 28 '26

It’s definitely not for me

2

u/DragosFist Aug 29 '26

I like the Dying Fetus cover. Would have been happier for more bands to do this rather than remix artists or solo pop performers.

2

u/Junior_24 Aug 28 '26

Damn the whole thing really does slap!

3

u/Blast-_MongoTHX1138 Aug 28 '26

Overall- lame as fuck, and will stick with the original never to play this crap again

1

u/jarodswegmeister Aug 28 '26

I like many of the remixes on here, but Floating Points’ takes the cake for me I’d say. Absolutely unreal tune that did SOLE justice.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '26

[deleted]

1

u/hokahey23 Aug 28 '26

That’s…not true. At least two songs off the top of my head have lyrics that aren’t in the original song.

1

u/WatercressAny7241 Aug 28 '26

Selfishly wish there was another Mall Grab collab on this, but anywayssss, this ROCKS

1

u/CompletelyInadequate Aug 28 '26

this is bonkers, great job turnstile

1

u/Ok_Asparagus_9050 Aug 29 '26

some interesting covers !

nothing comes close to []()The Amity Affliction doing holiday

1

u/signernic Aug 29 '26

Panda Bear Magic Man sounds like Bag Raiders Shooting Stars, lol. Still sick but that was my first thought.

1

u/itsMrBiscuits Aug 30 '26

the dan deacon track has got me imagining them all on stage playing it together live, doubt that will ever happen but fuck that'd be awesome

1

u/movementunderdreams Aug 30 '26

I am really enjoying this album and as a hardcore Paramore fan I think it’s more well done than re:this is why, there’s so many more I will go back to here and I love the transitions between songs. I think the way they did the sequence of songs is actually great for the whiplash of genres, you get cooldowns when you need it and hype moments as well. Definitely vibing to this

1

u/RedEyedTroll6 Sep 08 '26

this wasn't worth it's own thread but Baltimore standup comedian Stavros Halkias used Never Enough for the beginning and ending credits for his new Netflix special Uncle Stav

1

u/Shaolin_Wolf Sep 14 '26

Fuck Spotify - use a service that actually pays the artists.

2

u/hapaqirl Aug 28 '26

birds with slayyyter is the best version hands down.

1

u/myghostflower Aug 28 '26
