Asking for Advice From US to EU - anything else needed aside from passport/tickets?

Hi all, I have a question/concern - I'll be travelling to Europe later this year and it's our first time off the continent. I'm just wondering if there's anything else that needs to be done prior to boarding the plane?

Like filling out -any- other kind of form, security check, restricitions, etc.

So far we've just booked the tickets, the place to stay, and we have valid passports.

Anything else we must do to enter France? Thanks! (Coming from USA).

Asking for Advice Denied Boarding for Flight

hi all! my roommate was meant to be taking an american airlines flight today from london heathrow but was refused entry as they threw up at the gate as they have gastroparesis (partially paralysed stomach). they were told to go to the help desks but there was no one at the desks, they tried british airways too as they were the company the flight was booked through, however they were told there was nothing they could do. they left the airport and have now been calling both airlines and they've just been bouncing them back and forth and saying unless the airport has a sick note there's nothing they can do. does anyone have any advice? they were seen to by first aid but are unsure if any documentation was taken of their visit.

Asking for Advice Bag Xiamen Airline

• Upvotes

Hello,

I'm going to Cambodia for 7 days and Vietnam for 15 days in November. I'm flying with Xiamen Airlines. The carry-on size limit is 50x40x20.

I was planning to bring a 40L carry-on backpack—either the Decathlon Forclaz Backpack or the Osprey Farview—but they're too thick, especially the Decathlon one.

Do you know if any of these bags will work, or do you have any other recommendations? Otherwise, I think I’ll have to check a bag...

Thanks for your help

Giving Advice Never book with Sky Airlines, especially in Peru

I’ve been booked with them for months. My return flight from Cusco-Lima was set for noon today, but this is where the problems began. I wasn’t able to check in online, it simply said to see the desk at the airport. When I arrived at 9:30am to the counter the gentleman said that unfortunately we don’t have seats on the flight and they would be pushing us back to a 9pm flight. Problem is, I have a connecting flight at 10pm, so I’ll miss that. They didn’t refund me, didn’t give me a voucher, nothing. They simply screwed me. Connecting flight is non-refundable which I can take some responsibility for, but having that massive cushion evaporate simply because they didn’t give me a seat is incredibly asinine. I asked how it was possible for me to buy a ticket without a seat and the gentleman said, “it’s legal in Peru to do this.” No apology. Nothing. Please don’t book with them, I’ll save you the $1800 I now have to pay to make it home.

Asking for Advice Hola gente!

Asking for Advice Morroco in September/October 2027

We are a young couple with 3 children: 4, 3, 6-month.

We arrive in Casablanca on September 3rd.

Our departure flight is on October 9th still in Casablanca.

Which cities should we pick to make a efficient logistical loop?

I read that there is a bullet train linking some cities.

We would like to stay 6-7 nights in each city.

So maybe 6 cities total.

We would like a mix of history, culture, food, and sun/beach.

Waiting on your precious inputs

Tya

🙏✌️

I am looking to take a cruise to Greenland specifically to see polar bears. Does anyone have a specific cruise recommendation area (where they have seen the most polar bears) and cruise line? I am specifically looking to go to Greenland. I have seen polar bears in Svalbard, Norway, Kaktovik, Alaska and Churchill, Canada. Thank you for your help.

Asking for Advice Where would you recommend for a first trip to Africa?

Hi 🙋🏻‍♀️ We’re a couple in our early 30s , and neither of us has ever been to Africa. Honestly, we’ve only experienced it through movies, and stories from people who’ve visited.
We have two weeks in September this summer and would love to experience something completely different: incredible wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, unique nature .
Since this might be a once-in-a-lifetime kind of trip, we want to make the most of it. Budget isn’t really an issue.
Thanks in advance 🫶🏻

Giving Advice Things I never forget to pack before a solo trip

Not talking about clothes or phone chargers, you already know those. This is the stuff I learned to pack after a few small mistakes on the road.

  • Door stopper: A small rubber piece I put under the hotel room door from inside. Even if someone has a key, the door won’t open. I use it in cheap hotels where the lock feels weak.
  • Small fake wallet: It has a little cash and an old card. My real cards stay hidden in another bag.
  • Offline maps: Downloaded before I leave. The network always dies when I’m lost.
  • Old phone: It’s my backup. If my main phone gets stolen, I’m not stuck in a new city with nothing.
  • AirTag: I keep it in my main bag. It helps a lot on buses and trains.
  • ORS and basic medicines: Stomach issues always find me at 2 AM, when every shop is closed.
  • Zip-lock bags: For wet clothes, leaking bottles, and keeping my phone safe in the rain.

My rule: Before I start packing, I put everything I want to take on my bed. Then I take out 2 out of every 10 things.

Why? Because we always pack too much. Most of the stuff stays unused in the bag, and a heavy bag makes the trip harder. I have never missed anything I removed.

Asking for Advice Cabin bags - how does one pack for a week

I have seen those videos of randoms who claim it is so easy to pack a cabin case for 1-2 weeks to take the case onboard with you, yet I tried this and I have shoe size 11 which just one pair of shoes and tolietries take up most of the space in larger size cabin case, so do I have no choice and a bag?

Asking for Advice Where to travel to eat seafood/shellfish?

Recently, I've been thinking of organizing some solo travel plans for 2027 based on what I like to eat. Have you been anywhere in the world where the seafood (and shellfish in particular) were amazing? Thank you for the recommendations! 🙏

Asking for Advice Planning 2 month travel across south east asia as an Indian.

Hello, I am an Indian passport holder. planning a 2 month travel(approx 65 days ish) across south east asia.

These are the 4 countries that i want to visit (in order).

Malaysia (21 - 22 days)

Indonesia (around 15-16 days)

Philippines (12 days)

Thailand (around 20 days)

The itinerary is kind of fixed.

Things I would like advice on :

  1. What documents to carry for immigration? Flight tickets and initial hotel bookings for a few days and a sufficient balance(cards, account statements and cash) is what I thought of.

  2. Given that most of these countries are visa on arrival or visa free, how intensely can I be questioned by the immigration officers?

  3. I have heard sometimes that the airline people also give a hard time during boarding? Is that true?

I am currently a student and the plan is to travel during my semester break. I am travelling on my own savings that i had from my previous job.

My previous international travels would mostly be around 50 days per year but scattered throughout the year. I am pretty much afraid of immigration (I dont know why) so I would like some advice, if people have travelled intensively before.

Thank you in advance.

Asking for Advice International salesman as a weed smoker

I have no idea if this even fits here but there really is no better subreddit I know for this.

I've been an international salesman for 2 years now. I visited many countries around the globe and I will continue to for the time being.

Additionally, I enjoy a joint a few times a month. This has never impacted me in any way professionally, because I strictly confine my use to my balcony at home on weekends or vacation days. So I would never bring any with me, not even by accident as I am very careful.

Last night a random thought struck me while lighting up: aren't there some countries (like Singapore or UAE) where you would randomly be subjected to drug tests and be prosecuted for merely having an illegal drug in your system?

I know some of you will advise me to outright stop or at least don't smoke during the months prior to a business trip to such countries with strict drug laws (which I kinda already do but not consistently).

I'd like to hear some thoughts on the probability to be forced to such tests, especially when I don't look like a hippy (anymore) and travel with a suit and tie.

Can anyone share their experience on this topic or similar?

Asking for Advice Rare opportunity to travel as a couple

Me (53F) and hubby (56M) want to take a couples trip in Sept. 2027. We have traveled with our kids and family around the US; but not a lot of travel with just us out of the US. We have considered Paris or a Mediterranean cruise. What are some other options we should really consider and do you recommend any travel sites? Hoping to stay around $5K-$7K, but have some flexibility; less than 2 weeks is preferred.

Asking for Advice Booking a hostel room with friends in a mixed dorm, how can we ensure we all get the same room?

Hello, so we're planning a trip to Berlin (4 friends, mixed genders) and are looking for cheap hostel options. Unfortunately, the hostels that we like only have mixed dorms left for the selected date. Now I don't mind sharing a mixed dorm with my male friends, but I don't want to be in a dorm with random men I don't know. So I'm thinking, if all 4 of us book at the same time, what are the chances that they give us the same 4-bed dorm? We're using Booking and it doesn't say how many of these dorms they have left.

Also, let's say that one person books for all 4 people, does that mean we'll automatically get the same room?

I know this all may sound very stupid, but we're all a bit inexperienced with travelling and staying in hostels. So any tips are welcome.

Asking for Advice Solo travel first timer help.

Hi all. I’m a woman in my early 20s and want to plan my solo trip to Paris. My parents try to fear and power trip me cuz I still live at home but they won’t ever invite me to travel with them and try to scare me out of living my life. Can anyone provide first timer solo traveler hacks like for safety as a woman wanting to go to Paris or Europe? I wanna go to England too but mainly France. I have been saving money for months and any hacks on where to stay, transportation, activities, and how to coordinate this without unhelpful people in my family life would be deeply appreciated.

Asking for Advice Trying to plan the perfect birthday trip for my dad

(Ireland) Hi friends!!! My dad has a big birthday coming up next year and has always wanted to go to Ireland. I’d love to plan the perfect family trip for him but I have only gotten so far with my Internet research. The main locations that have been mentioned as points of interest are Tipperary,Kerry and Dublin, with at least one sort of special stay along the way (think: castle). Does anyone have any recommendations for how much time we should spend in each place or anywhere that we should definitely add on or takeoff? (Big love in the family for history, beautiful views, and having a drink) It would also be great if anyone knows of any really special stays in Ireland that would be great for a celebration. There would be seven of us traveling together in total so I’m thinking a couple of rental cars. I appreciate any advice or inspiration in advance🥹🫶🏻🤍✨

Details…
Budget: undecided, open but not too crazy
Dates: warmer months 2027
Length: 1-2 weeks

Main need for help: special, one of a kind accommodation or experiences 🥺
