IMPORTANT INFO Mod Post: Rules Regarding Feminine Presentation

Hi lads!

We once again have been considering the general thoughts and opinions of those using this sub, and have decided to reiterate the purpose of this sub, and some relevant rules.

First a disclaimer: There is nothing wrong with being a fem presenting trans man.

Having said this, this sub is specifically for the following:

1) Sharing tips to help users pass as a cisgender man, specifically how to be masculine presenting.

2) Sharing other advice useful to transition.

Keeping this is mind, we would like be clear on a few important points:

1) This is not a sub for asking for tips on how to be a feminine presenting trans man.
Not only will the responses not be helpful for you, but also it is frustrating for other sub users when posters are combative in the comments regarding masculinising advice. Posters need to be realistic about the fact that presenting fem will not help you pass especially early on in transition.

2) Please do not respond to advice to change a feminine characteristic (for example, cutting long hair) with ‘well, CIS men have long hair sometimes!’
We simply do not want to hear it. It should be obvious how a cis man, who always passes as a man because he was born as one, can wear makeup/have long hair/etc without it making him look like a woman. It should also be plainly obvious that a trans man (who was born a woman, sounds like a woman, and in many of these cases is not on T and therefore still has a ‘woman’s face’) cannot do these things without looking like a woman.

This is the number one reason for arguments in the comments in this sub and moving forwards mods will be more decisive with dealing with such comments.

3) We have added ‘no makeup’ to the ‘no filters’ rule.
If you want advice from this sub, please at least do the bare minimum of taking off any makeup before asking how to pass better. If you don’t, you won’t get any helpful advice as all the comments will just be telling you to stop wearing makeup. It also makes it hard for us to see how masculine your face really is.

4) We are going to be enforcing rule #3 more strictly from now on.
You must be willing to change if you post here, we do not accept posts from users who argue with every comment and come up with a reason they can’t do even basic steps like getting a hair cut. They are frustrating for users and also disingenuous. This is not a validation sub, it is an advice sub. If you are seen to be very unaccepting for advice in the comments, we will remove either your comments of the post entirely.

Some of this might seem a bit harsh, but remember there as SO MANY subs and spaces for people with a more fluid/fem gender presentation. We are just trying to reserve a small corner of the internet for us, trans men who wish to pass masculine/cis.

Hope this helps!

- MODs

NAME HELP MASTER POST

this doesnt exist so im taking it on me to make one. this isnt intended to be a "look here and shut up about names" post, this is genuinely intended to be helpful

there are three basic ways id go about naming yourself. first way is to ask your parents whatever they would have named you or otherwise pass the baton onto the people who care about you the most. obviously dont use your parents if they arent supportive, but if theyre supportive its probably the best way to do it. if you consider your friends your family pass it to them, but id highly advise you dont give it to friends you arent really family with or randoms on the internet

second way is to look at the most popular baby boy names for the year you were born. i know everyone likes to be unique, but you can do this and still be unique. theres an issue with trans names where you can tell if someone is trans based on what they name themselves and the crux of that is usually that people will name themselves the same way they'd name, like, a dog. if you dont want your name to be clocky id highly recommend using this method or the above. i used this and collaborated with my parents on it and im really happy with what i chose. you can get a lot of good ideas and most countries release this information publicly

third way is to just steal the name of someone you greatly admire. probably the best way to get a clocky name, but if you dont really care about that then you shouldnt really worry about it. if you care about something enough to consider naming yourself after it go right ahead, just be aware that you might fall out of love with a piece of media or the person who made it might turn out to be a piece of shit

naming yourself isnt like, a permanent thing either. you can change it if you end up not liking it. cis people do it all the time. i dunno, just figured id give my two cents

Question Keep getting called sir and gendered correctly at work despite clearly not passing. Is there a reason why?

I’ve been out as ftm for about 6 years now and for the longest time I tried my hardest to pass. Over the years I kinda realized I didn’t care and I’d do what I wanted. I was on t for about a year, had to stop because of new laws, and now that I’m 18 I’m back on it. I work in customer service at the cash register and see a shit ton of people daily, and while not everyone refers to me as male, many do. I’ve been called sir, young man, guy, etc. And this isn’t just people my age, even elderly people do it sometimes. Not sure what leads to that and after lots of thinking, I’ve come up with nothing. Is there something that would give me away as ftm or have people see me as male?

Edit: Ok, this got more attention than I wanted, I expected maybe 5 to 10 replies at most. Thank to everyone who had conversations in good faith, I knew it was a gamble coming to Reddit of all places.

-I know I don’t pass, and while I don’t care that people mention it, there have been people who talk to me like I’m super shocked about that revelation.
-No one at work knows I’m trans, not the customers or my coworkers. I’ve had one person come in that I’m out to and that was my own father.
- It’s not a small town, word didn’t “get around or whatever.

Honestly due to all the attention and eyes on this I’m gonna delete it soon.

Tips, Tricks, & Advice Free beginner gym programme

Please find the program here

Hey everyone,

A few weeks ago, I made a post here responding to a discussion about how much lifting can help with developing a more masculine physique, with or without testosterone.

The response was overwhelmingly positive and quite a few people mentioned wanting to start going to the gym but not knowing where to begin. I intended to write up a beginner’s programme pack that weekend but life got in the way and I’ve only just gotten around to it.

I’ve called it Build Your Frame, dunno why, I just wanted to name it 😂.

It’s a simple three-day full-body programme designed around developing a V-taper. There’s also an optional fourth day for anyone who wants to give their legs some additional attention.

The programme is intentionally uncomplicated and is designed to be outgrown. It exists to get beginners into an easy routine of getting in the gym and comfortable with working out.

It’s important that I manage your expectations when it comes to this programme, this isn’t going to build you the most muscular or developed physique. It is just a starting point. You will see gains and growth, hopefully fall in love with the process and move on to more advanced routines as time goes on.

I also want to clarify something about my identity, I am transmasculine and I don’t specifically identify as a trans man. But being perceived or referred to as a man doesn’t feel alien to me. Most people in my life use he/him pronouns for me, and that feels just as natural as they/them or she/her. What I am very intentional about, however, is my masculine presentation.

A lot of my fitness journey has been about developing a physique that reflects that presentation. I think my experiences and training priorities overlap considerably with those of many trans men, even if our identities aren’t exactly the same. I have attached pictures of my physique to reinforce this point.

I also want to make sure that I hammer in this point: I am not against testosterone. I wish I was able to tolerate it better, I would still be on it if that was the case. But it is not currently an option for me or many others and we have to find ways to adapt our physical presentation in accordance.

I’m not a qualified personal trainer. I’m just someone who enjoys lifting, has spent a lot of time learning about it, and wanted to share something that might help people who are where I once was.

If any other experienced lifters want to review, add or even suggest revisions to the program, I am all ears.

Not on T, since I’m a minor :/ planning to get on it very soon

I’m pretty flat, with pretty even hips. No clue why I keep getting misgendered by strangers even before I speak (unfortunately, my voice is pretty feminine). Is there something I’m missing?

”how do I pass without changing my fem/andro style?” Lift

”How do I pass without putting down makeup?” Lift.

”How do I pass while still presenting feminine?” Lift.

”How do I pass as a minor without T?” Voice train + lifting.

”How do I-“ PICK UP THE WEIGHTS. BUILD YOUR SHOULDERS, BACK, ARMS.

there are tons of androgynous/fem presenting/ pretty cis guys that pass as MALES because they have a MALE body that you can easily emulate with Body recomp and WEIGHTS. I’m an androgynous presenting/pretty BINARY trans guy(thats just my personal preference of what typa male i wanna look like🤷), i still PASS coz i go to the GYM.

19, 5 months on T. I used to have a shorter haircut but it grew out a lot. I pass about 50% of the time, but I have a babyface + my lazy eye definitely doesn’t help. Changing my glasses is out of question cause I have a $400 prescription.

I’m honestly pretty happy with how I look, I’m going for jewel-eyed twink & that seems to be exactly how I’m read. was on T for 8 years, been off it for about 6 months now of my own volition bc I don’t wanna go bald and idc if I look like a femboy, but it does mean muscle definition is harder to keep up.

if y’all have fitness tips I’d appreciate that. I want more defined arms/abs, but I’m going for definition over bulk. Other than that, I’d appreciate fashion tips + hair tips. also my facial hair is pretty thick when it comes in, but it’s blonde, so ain’t nothing I can do about that

Tips, Tricks, & Advice how do i not be afraid of going to the gym as a trans guy

hey all, i am ftm and came out a couple years ago and have been on T for nearly 3.5 years, but I’m still a really short dude and I’m a little stocky but in all the places i would prefer not to be— that being said, i have been trying to hype myself up to go to the gym but i just get so scared of going to the gym and being put face to face with the state of my body which right now to me looks very feminine. i am so nervous about being looked at weird at the gym since i also don’t know what i’m doing. i’m just having so many irrational worries about going and i’m wondering if anyone else has advice or tips for me so i can actually get myself to go and reduce my anxiety 😭😭

Needing Advice I feel like I’m starting to see progress! What should I focus on?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’m so sorry for the dirty mirror 😭. I’ve been on T for 9 months and had surgery 3 months ago. I am a feminine gay guy, so that’s the goal for my transition. My mannerisms and voice will always be effeminate but I want a more masculine body. I am dysphoric about my hips but maybe they’re not that bad. I definitely want to work out more, and I am just getting back into it after recovering from top surgery. What areas should I focus on?

Needing Advice Any tips to lose weight while depressed?

I’ve completed my transition, been on T 8 years and had all the surgery. Life is just very hard and I have no family support. I’ve never dated anyone partially because I’m trans, partially because of the modern dating climate. I’ve gained a lot of weight in the past year due to depression and struggling to lose it. This question has probably been asked a thousand times but I’m just looking for some motivation really.

My mom says it's already dark enough, but it gets super light in the summertime. Is there any pros to darker hair bc I'm worried it'll somehow accentuate my facial structure and make me like more girly or somethin

Seeking Tips Pre t tips and tricks

Post image
• Upvotes

Have I hit that peak yet, and do I pass yet, I’ve had some people even with just the hair style alone gender me correctly, but I don’t know if I’m seeing the vision yet. The balding and hair line issues in my 20s doesn’t help my confidence either

Wondering how much t you guys started with, personally I feel like I’ve always looked a bit more androgynous as it is. But is there anything I should expect if I do go on, besides more male patterns than I already have lmao. Any tips on how I can improve my appearance over all, I’m pretty unhappy with it atm.

this is like my third time posting because reddit filters keep getting mad at me but i’ve been super dysphoric recently. i know i pass as male but feel like i’m very visibly trans and don’t know what i can change. my shoulders and hands along with the roundness and redness of my face are really messing with me. any tips are appreciated

edit: i’m aware that my scars would clock me but i’m not going out in public shirtless anytime soon, i’m more wondering if my physique is masculine even with the love handles

Needing Advice Hair advice plz

Looking for advice for what hair style suits best. I’ve only had shorter hair for the last 2 yrs maybe and have been going a bit shorter each time. I’ve been seeing the same stylist but they’re too expensive to continue to go to if I’m going to have shorter hair that needs to be cut every few months. That being said, I went to a barber for the first time and the results were 😬

I have curly ish hair. When it’s mid length I can even get coils in the front. Kinda 2C/3A hair type.

Open to other styles, or like advice of what to say to get a similar ish haircut to pics 3/4? I showed the barber the pics and tried my best to explain. Could it just be a skill issue? Is it just the brain worms or is it not a terrible haircut?

Pic 1 - long length when I first chopped it…it’s giving lord farquad 🥲
Pic 2 - Mid length
Pic 3/4- last short cut with my stylist. I liked but the front grew back super fast
Pic 5/6 - chopped by the barber down the rd 🥲
