Possible trigger Puberty blockers researcher shortlisted for Maddox Prize
Recognition for ‘defending evidence-based science’ may help others ‘challenge unsupported scientific claims’, says neuropsychologist
Thought this was worth sharing, and I’m sure the MumsNet lunatics will be jumping for joy…
Essentially it looks like her research indicates a drop in IQ whilst puberty blockers are in use, but having not read any of the evidence I’ve no idea how sound this is. For example, did IQ improve once trans people went on to use GAHT, or stopped taking puberty blockers? How long did the study track IQ for? Is there any other possible explanation like social stigma, bullying etc causing trans kids to participate less in school/class?
Sharing more for awareness than anything tbh.

Gender Recognition Certificate NHS record reverted back?
Despite my GRC that I’ve had since 2023, my NHS record was reverted back to male about a month ago. I’m confused why this would be. I’ve contacted my GP and they said “they’ll look into it”

Good News My GP tried to restrict my HRT on the day of the NHS abandoning trans people
But the 111 service bypassed it and gave me a few months worth of HRT against the GPs will.
The GP was arguing I needed to be “reviewed” and I said for what purposes? And they said it’s a yearly review and wouldn’t give me info and they asked me ridiculous questions like if I’ve had my periods (I’m a trans woman) constantly misgendered me and deadnamed me. And then said I needed to have blood tests and a blood pressure reading. (All of which they’ve tried to deny to me)
Anyway I’ve not had any of that and I spoke to 111 and they bypassed it all and got the pharmacy to prescribe for me.
Thanks for At least one service helping us.

Vent I realise that my constant feelings of guilt around my transness, is just me experiencing gender euphoria.
That is all. I'm allowed to experience gender euphoria even though I'm trans. I'm allowed to smile and laugh and not feel like utter shit.

Question Trans groups " up north"
Hello everyone,
I am currently questioning my gender identity. I am older in my late 30s. I am afab, but, after talking to others in the trans community. I feel I could be a closeted gay trans man. I always felt more a boy or in between genders inside but did not know about gay / bi trans men until recently. Are there any adult groups near Sheffield area or " up north" or is it mainly Manchester? I see lots of youth groups, but, growing up under section 28 means I am very late to the party. Thanks

Good News Amazing news that I found out from my endocrinologist!!
I had my one year follow-up with my endocrinologist (Dr Millson-Brown) and was discussing my transition of the NHS/GP prescribing HRT.
She had mentioned that earlier this month she was at a conference with the British Association of Gender Identity Specialist (BAGIS) and it has been agreed that gender affirming medication will be moved from orange to green on the list of meds that GPs can prescribe.
She mentioned that this will likely not be implemented until next year but once it is GP should not/cannot tell you that they won't prescribe the HRT and that you have to go to a secondary care provider like a GIC. If they do and you complain, they can risk losing their medical license.
She said that this will likely also include shared care as well so things are looking good in terms of NHS based treatments!!!

Women in Tech experiences?
What are people's experiences of the Women in Tech advocacy group? Have you found it to be trans-inclusive or trans-exclusive? Googling suggests to me that they have been trans-inclusive in the past but I don't know if that has changed in recent years because of lawfare from the usual suspects.
As I am a woman in tech, I'm interested in possibly getting involved but I don't know if they are terfy or not.

Changing NHS Sex marker - will they delete my medical record?
Hi all :) Seeking some advice on changing my sex marker on my NHS record
I'm a trans man, fully transitioned (hormones since 2020, surgery 2021), the NHS have changed my name on my records after my 2019 deed poll but i had been told they cant change my sex marker until i have a GRC.
Got my GRC this year (wouldn't have cared for it but im getting married) so going to message my doctors to change my sex on medical records to M. They currently have my title set to Mx so everytime my name is read out and comes up on the board to tell me what room my appointment is it, every single cissie in the room has their head spin around to look at the weird gender freak listed as Mx.
I wondered if anyone has experience with changing their sex marker and how it went?
I'm afraid as my friend had the same situation, and when he sent over his GRC as proof and they agreed to change his sex marker, the GP told him that they were unable to change the sex marker and instead deleted his medical record and created a whole new one (his has multiple disabilities so deleting his whole medical record caused a LOT of issues)
I also have ongoing referrals for various (non trans related) medical issues and am afraid that they will just delete my medical record, which would not be ideal. Has anyone had their sex changed on their medical record successfully? I assume theres a way they can do it but want to be prepared to explain to them how to do it properly without deleting my entire record before I ask.
thanks in advance :)

Where to get Oral Minoxidil
Looking to start oral minoxidil (can’t do topical, cats lol) and most the pharmacies I’ve looked at are for AMAB ppl only and require you to share NHS records.
Any recommendations for pharmacies that prescribe to trans men ?

Vent Absolutely sick of seeing JK Rowling/Harry Potter every day
I know its a trivial/first world problem, but i'm getting so irate that I see something about that woman every day. Whether its news, adverts for the new HP tv show or brand collaborations or at my job (library worker), i'm reminded of her existence and how much a lot of people still love her work all the time. My own Dad asks me "so why are you not into Harry Potter anymore" almost every time I see him, even though I know he knows why because he watches political youtube from the right wing/Reform perspective. The BBC crap with the censorship of protect the dolls and the JK Rowling documentary doesn't help. It would be a lot easier to cope with the mental health load that has come from the EHRC and general villanising/dehumanising us in society right now if I didnt get a daily reminder, thats all.
Apologies for the vent. If I didnt get it out of my system it would just add to the already existing anxiety and depression. Im a trans man for context.

Alternatives to YourGP for those in Scotland?
I’ve been seeing YourGP since I came out (four years ago), but to be honest I’d be quite inclined to leave them. The main reasons being:
-The sharp rise in prices
-The rather sudden departure of Dr Chong
-Tied to the first point, I’ve always found them a bit money-hungry? Biggest thing that annoyed me was last year when I was looking to get my GRC, I was due to get hour long two appointments with them - at about £400 a pop - to get the two letters I needed. They at no point told me that the letters I had previously received from them a year ago for surgery would be ample evidence, and these two appointments were completely unnecessary. When I asked them about if they knew the letters would work, they did - so why were they fine with the appointments explicitly for this purpose?
Honestly though, I’m still years away from Sandyford looking at me, and I feel uneasy regarding DIY. Are there any decent alternatives out there?

Vegan GAHT - most of it really
I’m vegetarian myself but I saw a post on social media from an American vegan trans woman shocked to find her Progesterone tablets contain gelatin.
I know it’s probably obvious, but this generally seems to be a problem just with tablets. If you take your meds via gel, patch or injection you are typically fine.
As to the progesterone concern, Cyclogest suppositories are certified vegan by The Vegan Society. but from experience, the sitting upside down for 20 mins whilst it dissolves takes some getting used to, but on the plus side, the farts are hilarious.

Do I need to prepare anything before asking GP for shared care?
I have booked a diagnosis with Gendercare who told me to ask my GP if they would be willing to offer shared care, I would also like to get gamete storage, which I don't know whether or not is possible on the NHS but I thought I should ask anyway.
Do I just call and ask to book an appointment to discuss shared care? Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of getting it, or is it something that is just whether or not my GP feels like it? If so is there any way I can persuade them or is it decided before I get in the room?
Is it a risk to ask now before getting a diagnosis like gendercare asked, will I be taken less seriously? And is there a chance I'll be able to discuss it over the phone?
Sorry for the large number of questions and I assume a lot are GP dependent, but any help would be great
