The fight isn't over, friends. The crews will be returning daily to attempt to complete the work. This is going to take more people every day. The Biking Lawyer just made a post about tonight's protest.

So proud of my city! It's really inspiring to see people stand up against something so blatantly corrupt and nonsensical. In a sea of headlines detailing the deterioration of society, this gives me hope!

Can someone explain to me why the city couldn’t figure out how to fit two lanes & a bike lane along bloor?
There are still sections where the bike lanes jut in to the old on-street parking zones. Why can’t we:
- remove all on street parking,
- move the bike lanes over to solely occupy this space with some redevelopment of the extra sidewalk space between
- add in second lane where the street parking is now

They could and offered to add a lane back. The Province said no because this has nothing to do with bike lanes, public safety, traffic congestion or local businesses. It's a shameless culture war wedge used to divide us while Ford and his lackeys continue their wave of public corruption and self enrichment.

The city of Toronto presented Doug Ford with an option to add back another driving lane on Bloor and get rid of the on street parking and Ford refused the plan.

Thanks for asking this in good faith. Appreciate the tone. To answer that question, it's because Doug Ford himself refused a proposal that would've restored both a car traffic lane and preserved the bike lane. In other words, he'd rather have on-street parking available at all times than actually solve traffic.

This isn't about traffic congestion. This isn't about coming up with a good solution. This is a purely vindictive move from a premier who hates the city he lives in and the people who voted against him.
The city has, from what I've heard (in news coverage of this whole affair), proposed alternate solutions that aren't "rip the bike lanes out". The province has said no. The province wants the bike lanes gone and doesn't want to hear any argument, doesn't want to make any compromise, and when we fight back will reach for measures like the Notwithstanding Clause to make that fight impossible (they have before and they will again).
You can't bring logic to this, you can't try to argue in good faith, because the province isn't participating in good faith or acting logically.

Was at a friend's place who lives on Bloor. They were riding a lot of the evening, lots of cars in support but most importantly, I only noticed the noise from everyone due to the cars honking.
Good job for keeping it respectful to the people living in the area while also being disruptive enough to help prevent this

Good but we can't do it forever sadly. And they're going to end up having to be completely redone when he finally fucks off forever one day

I would hope people would end up just making being a politician a living hell in Ontario. Doing whatever they can to make sure those people can't go a day with peace.

This might blow your mind but a lot of people employed full time are free at 8pm.

A lot of people have jobs where they don't have to work until 9pm. Maybe you should get a better job?

So first you police people about their joblessness and now you want them to drive a car? No wonder our traffic is so congested. Because you think everyone and their mother should drive a car.

u/thebossphoenix 15h ago
More cars on the road is sure to fix traffic right?

u/Vivid_Ingenuity5457 14h ago
More cars! More roads! More traffic! MORE MORE MORE
and don't forget, we want only ONE driver per car, especially during rush hour.

u/lnahid2000 15h ago
So I can get places slower? I can easily afford a car but there's no point having one in downtown Toronto where my bike is faster.

Or some people actually need those bike lanes to get to their jobs. If my life is on the line on my commute, I would certainly be protesting that.

This is happening no matter what — what a waste of time

Well yeah they're going to find a way to remove this no matter what. However, would you rather go down without a fight or with a fight?
