Hello everyone! This community was left unmoderated so posting was turned off. I just requested access to moderate so that we could revive this community and allow people to continue talking about their tokays here.

For full transparency, I don't have moderator experience nor do I have tokay experience - I've only had mine for 1 week which is what led me to this community. Imagine my frustration finding this community was restricted due to no moderation!

I am only here to keep this community open and going. I'm not here to give advice (because I don't have tokay experience) and I'm not going to set up anything fancy with automoderator etc (because I have no mod experience).

If anyone is interested in helping with any roles, please let me know. I think as long as everyone plays nice here it should be fine.

If you have any suggestions with informative or fun flairs I could add to this community let me know. I am open to suggestions.

You may now continue posting your geckos!

Added a Manjula pothos across from the main giant Golden and a dragon tree on the other side. Lil buddy is hanging out under the golden Pothos so I added the dragon tree for more cover.

Added some tropical pink springtails and I think we are good to go.

His injury is separating from his tail so let's hope we are moving in the right direction!

Token the Rescue Tokay

90% done with my bioactive build. Golden pathos planted, moss established. Waiting on my cork bark magnet feeder and clean up crew. I want to swap out my fake vines but need to wait until the pathos establishes itself first.

Token the rescue Tokay just had his vet visit this morning and he's healthy other than his tail.

Thankfully buddy lets me pick him up and chills with me until his ointment dries. Doc says he's gonna be alright and his tail will eventually fall off. He just wants me to keep antibiotics going until then.

Went and made him a little floating cork shelf with leftover suctions lying around that he's currently enjoying once I put him up there.

She is no longer $10 😅

Just left the vet with antibiotics, dewormer, and critical care. She is definitely underweight at about 35g but the vet said there is still hope for her tail and gave us some tips for her weight.

Thank you for all the tips I got on my last post, you guys rock.

Scheduled vet for Wednesday, gonna get those details together for the little buddy. He had a rough morning with me but is calming down. I believe his nub has stopped everything below it. He has a nub out the side of his tail like a second growth above his injury. His old tail still changes color, but any movement is strictly up to the point of the nub. (You can see the nub in the second pic over the phone) He is approx 6.5-7 inches long. The old owner purchased him in April of 2026

I was told by my buddy who's been dealing with lizards for a decade to keep an eye on his tail but not to worry as it'll fall off eventually.

I just picked this tokay up yesterday

7 months old

He's running around and eating and behaving like normal but it concerns me.

What are y'all's thoughts? Vet or no vet?

Help/Question⁉️ Enclosure Background Suggestions

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m currently setting up a 61 × 61 × 122 cm Tokay gecko enclosure and I’d love to hear your opinions and tips.

Would you recommend covering both side walls + the back wall with the background/scaping, or would you only do the back wall?

I’m also wondering what I should do with the side ventilation strips. Should I leave them completely open, partially cover them, or cover them up more to make the enclosure feel more secure?
And what about the mesh top? Should I leave the entire mesh top open, or is it better to cover part of it to help maintain humidity?

I’ll also be using an automatic misting system, so I’m wondering how much ventilation you would recommend to prevent the enclosure from staying too wet while still maintaining good humidity.

Any tips or experiences with this type of setup would be greatly appreciated! 😊

Help/Question⁉️ Rescued a tokay and need advice

*crossposted*

Hi! We went to our local reptile show this past weekend and saw a table with a really cheap Tokay. I've been wanting a Tokay for a while and asked about it. they said "it was really mean, bit them like 4 or 5 times within the first 20 minutes of owning it and then escaped and lived in the ceiling" and they just wanted to get rid of it. I felt bad for the little guy/girl (I assume it is a girl and will address it as such moving forward) and know that it was the handlers fault and not the gecko. They told me if no one bought it by the end of the show they would just give it away. I offered $10 and got a Tokay.

The issue? She is severely malnourished and had a damaged tail (see pics). Her tail wounds were oozing so we put clorhex on them to try and help. The wounds have scabbed (yay) but now the tail looks like it may be dying? I know they can drop their tail if needed but I'm not sure if this would cause her to drop it. We have a vet appointment Tuesday (the soonest I could get into an exotic vet). I have a gargoyle and some mourning geckos but this is my first experience with a Tokay.

She is eating crickets, she's alert and moves around and has some fiestyness forsure. I want to save this girl and give her the life she deserves. She is in an 18x24 Hexagon enclosure with climbing opportunities, plants, and water. Temperature in the room is an ambient 75°-80° and a UVB light and an exoterra solarglo UVA heat lamp that faces her.

Any advice is appreciated but please be kind as this is my intro to Tokays and I just want to help her.

Gekko Homes🏠 Changed my tokays setup!

I noticed my little last wasn't as active and didn't care for her $60 piece of driftwood 🥲 So naturally, I spent another $60 buying her new things in hopes of her liking her tank. There's more corkbark on the walls for her to hide in, as in my family's homes in the Philippines, they like hiding behind things. I also got her a cork round as I noticed she loves her coconut and she may like that as well :) Depending on if she uses the cork bark I may or may not add more cork to the walls.

So we’re on day three got her on Saturday and the first photo of her crawled into the crevice she hasn’t moved since I put her in here on Sunday… I have a camera on her too and she hasn’t moved and she has stayed her darker tint of color every time I’ve looked. I did put gloves on and got a little boop on her and she never freaked out or tried to bite me. She kind of honked at me once when I moved her flower clutter and moved around a bit. I offered her I worm and a dubia and she had no interest…. Should I be concerned at all? Not eating I understand but the sitting in the exact same spot since Sunday night and being see dark the whole time is concerning to me because she’s a beautiful bright baby blue. Any help or experience from others would be appreciated!

Taming Tokay taming

Post image
52 Upvotes

Hello! I just got a female year and a half tokay from an expo on Saturday I will technically be her third owner the man who sold her to me said she was captive bred and tame and he pulled her out prior to and held her no issues. I transferred her into one of those critter cages for only a day as I went to a out of town show and wouldn’t be home till Sunday and in that process she did bite me I take 100% blame because I was trying to hold her instead of just transfer her… I’m thinking to get over this fear of just getting bit it didn’t hurt that bad honestly but when I transferred her into her temp tank until I finish her permanent one I was honestly too scared to pick her up I tried for a while just placing my hand in-front of her and waiting and when I got to close she jumped and freaked out but never tried to bite me I see a lot of different things online and I’m confused on if forced handling is the right choice for them she’s clearly not as mean as some other that I’ve seen she doesn’t freak out by me coming close so do I just need to grab her and hold her? He told me she needs to be held daily for thirty minutes but do I need to still give her a decompression week first? I’m sorry lots of questions I know I didn’t come into this fully blind sided I learned about proper care and set up I guess I just expected her to be more aggressive so I’m lost on the proper approach for handling. Also she’s like the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen I want to hold her so badly

✨New Gecko✨ New baby tokay gecko

I just yesterday got a new captive bred baby gecko, he’s pretty small about 3-4 inches probably. Have him set up in a 12x12x18 with a drainage layer, reptisoil and 2 live plants. A pothos plant and a fern. Keeping his basking spot about 95-98 degrees and have some temp gauges/humidity gauges coming from Amazon. I’m going to feed him daily. My question with feeding him crickets is since he’s so new and a baby and timid tong feeding him for now is probably out of the question. Can I just put them in his enclosure? Like 2 or so small crickets? Also calcium dusting them before giving them to him. What do you recommend for cricket food to gut load them well? I just wanna make sure he’s eating and they’re not just disappearing in the enclosure. Any advice is welcome thank you! Also need recs on uvb bulbs. For now heating with a nano 40w Che bulb and a led light for day night cycle.

✨New Gecko✨ Rescued a tokay from a hoarder today…

She has never been interacted with or handled by humans, her food was always just thrown into her enclosure. Her enclosure was never cleaned so it is covered in poop and dead bugs. She is terrified and angry. And I’ve never owned a tokay! I have a crestie, leopard gecko, and a blue tongue skink but she is definitely next level for me. How do I give her the best life possible? Working on getting her all set up in my house and cleaning her enclpsure (can’t get her into a 120 gallon until later this month, for now she’s in a 50 gal vertical tank). Any tips on slowly beginning to gain her trust? Also any ideas why her tail is forked?

She is my 3rd rescue lizard, but this one definitely feels the most difficult so far. We named her Amara <3

Got my first Tokay last week! In a temporary set up before I go bio active to make sure he’s eating and poopin haha. I believe he’s about 3 months old. I say he but I don’t know the gender yet lol. Any advice for working on taming this early? He’s currently in a 18x18x24 with a 100w basking light and UVB. I also grabbed a CHE bulb for nights since the room he’s in stay pretty cool. Just feeding off of gut loaded crickets right now!

Help/Question⁉️ Quick Reptile Enclosure Questionare

Hi everyone, I'm an A-level Product Design student designing a beginner-friendly reptile terrarium for my NEA. I'm collecting responses from reptile owners/keepers to help me understand what features and problems are most important when designing an enclosure.

It's a short anonymous questionnaire and would really help with my research. Thanks! 🦎 Questionnaire On Reptilian Husbandry/Care – Fill in form

Pictures & videos🖼️ Gengar on the loose 🤬

Post image

My little monster just decided that today was the perfect day for his first escape. I have had him for 3 years and he always has been super chill and never even tried to get out of his enclosure. Until today. I planted a few new plants in his enclosure. This didn't bother him at all. Afterwards I dared to move his branches about 5 cm to the left and this was not to his liking. Out of the blue he jumped out of the enclosure and dashed up the wall. I live in an old building with very high ceilings. So I grabbed a ladder but still couldn't reach him. That's why my bf had to try. After 20 minutes he managed to contain Gengar with a Tupperware container and now the little monster is back in his enclosure. Gosh, I will never touch this branch again. 🤣
