DOIST TEAM POST Todoist pricing update: Addressing your Questions (from the Todoist team)

Hey everyone 👋🏽

Dominique here, Head of Product at Doist, makers of Todoist. I want to address some of the questions and concerns you’ve shared about the upcoming pricing changes.

Firstly, thank you to those who’ve shared feedback. We’ve been reading every comment, and welcome your honesty. Both the support and the criticism genuinely help us do our jobs and build a better Todoist.

What’s changing

Starting December 10, 2025, our pricing will be updated as follows:

  • Pro plan: $7/month or $60/year (previously $5/month or $48/year)
  • Business plan: $10/month per user or $96/year per user (previously $8/month per user or $72/year per user)

We know price increases are never welcome news, and this wasn’t a decision we made lightly. To keep Todoist fast, dependable, and improving for everyone, we sometimes need to adjust our pricing so we can keep building for individuals and teams. We’re in it for the long term.

Legacy pricing plans

I'd like to apologize for the confusion we created around legacy pricing 🙏🏽 Please let me clarify:

  • If you’ve been continuously subscribed to Pro since before June 2022, you’ll remain on your legacy pricing with what we’re now calling the “Pro Legacy plan.”
  • Similarly, if you subscribe through the App Store (regardless of when you subscribed), you’ll stay at your current price due to App Store policies. All App Store subscriptions will be on the Pro Legacy plan and have the ability to upgrade to the current Pro plan and its limits on or after December 10, 2025.
  • The Pro Legacy plan will continue to receive all bug fixes, security updates, and any new features that are released to our free plans. However, new paid features released after December 10, 2025, won't be added to this plan. Some newer features, such as Ramble, will continue to be available on the Legacy Pro plan, but with the same usage limits that apply to the free plan.
  • If you believe you should be on the Pro Legacy plan but received an email about a price increase, please reach out to our Support team. We’ll review your account details and make sure everything looks right.
  • The legacy Todoist for Business plan is being retired, and all remaining legacy Business subscriptions are being transitioned to the current Business plan.

Regional pricing

Price changes vary across currencies due to local market factors. We use a rolling 36-month currency conversion to minimize short-term peaks and troughs. However, because we don’t update prices often, some currencies are seeing larger adjustments this time. We know these changes hit harder in some places, and we appreciate your understanding as we work to keep pricing fair globally.

Why we’re making this change

This price increase isn’t about adding AI. It’s been three years since our last pricing update in 2022. As a bootstrapped company, Todoist has always been powered by the people who use it, not investors. Your subscriptions directly fund the improvements and reliability you count on every day.

We’re building Todoist to be a long-term partner for individuals and teams. Adjusting prices from time to time helps us do that sustainably, so we can keep shipping meaningful improvements without compromising on quality or reliability.

Addressing specific concerns

Some of you have mentioned bugs and feature requests. While I can’t directly respond to each one here, I want you to know we’re committed to making the Todoist experience consistent across all devices and platforms. Please submit any bugs or feature requests through the usual route of www.todoist.com/contact. This allows us to actively track, prioritize, and address them.

Continuing the conversation

We are listening. And we’re a team of dedicated, real people continuously working to improve Todoist based on what matters most to you. Our goal is to ensure Todoist remains the reliable, focused tool that millions of people depend on.

If you want to clarify details of the changes, you can find the articles below on our Help Center. We are continuously updating these articles with real questions you’re asking on r/todoist and elsewhere, so there’s a good chance you’ll find answers here:

If you have specific questions about how this affects your subscription, the best way to get a personalized, honest, and helpful response is to please contact our support team directly.

Thank you for being part of the Todoist community since the early days. We never take your continued support for granted, and we’ll keep working hard to help you accomplish what matters most.

– Dominique and the Todoist Team

I am sending out moderator team invites

Hello all. I will be sending out moderator team invites here shortly to a list of people who expressed interest in being on the moderator team. I will let them coordinate amongst themselves and after a few months (or six) I will re-sort the moderator team based on a) if they have a consensus on who would be a good fit as the top mod and b) possibly some input from me based on observation and who is actually doing the work of active moderating on the subreddit.

Otherwise, I am going to cede moderation duties to this team and will be otherwise uninvolved in the moderation of this subreddit.

But wait, you were going to have us vote on the new mods! Yes, I was, and I was in the middle of setting up a nice ranked choice voting website with all of these applications, which I paid ACTUAL money to do. But then I have to deal with [absolutely insane rants] [imgur link] like this one, and I've officially lost my patience due to this harassment. This is why we can't have nice things, guys.

This list of people have all expressed interest in being moderators and all seem like they would be operating in good faith. So I am sending out invites to them. Moderators can always be added later if there are additional interested and qualified people. And if there are problem mods after 3-6 months, I will keep my account linked as top mod for now only for the purpose of reshuffling the moderator team and any issues can be dealt with at that time].

There are a few other candidates who've expressed interest in modmail and chat who I think would be very good additions as well. I will wait on their official "applications" before sending any invites to them.

To anyone who doesn't like this decision, I invite you to read the screed linked above and that should give you enough context as to why I don't want to continue participating in active moderation of this subreddit and I'm not going to put more than an ounce of effort into it after today.

Discussion Anyone actually using AI to manage their tasks?

I've been wondering if AI is actually useful for managing tasks, not just helping you write a to-do list.

Most task apps still require you to organize everything yourself. Add tasks, set deadlines, sort them into projects, change priorities, etc.

I'm curious if anyone here has tried using AI for this. Like, just telling it what you need to do and letting it organize everything for you, instead of manually managing your lists all the time.

Does it actually work well? Or do you end up spending more time correcting the AI than just doing things yourself?

Would love to hear from people who've actually tried it. What tools are you using?

Bug Sub-task drag/drop has no undo and it's brutal

Three things, the first one is the one that actually hurts me physically (this is all desktop MacOS app fyi):

If you've got a parent task with loads of sub-tasks and you multi-select a few to reorder them..... they constantly end up nested BY ACCIDENT under a neighbouring sub-task instead of staying under the parent. Happens most when you drag to the top. And there's no undo. I did this with eight tasks last week and the only fix was recreating every single one by hand. Just give us undo on drag/drop, or an outdent / "move to parent" that works on a multi-select. Either would do. pls! You guys have been doing so well this year i loved the color by label in calendar legit life changing. Keep it up plspls 😭

Second, on mobile the calendar sometimes goes blurry when it's coloured by label?? Not sure if anyone else has seen this but... only fix is switching to project colouring, letting it render, then switching back. Doesn't happen every time but often enough to be annoying.

Third, multi-select in calendar view. Being able to grab a few tasks and drag them to another day as a block would be GREAT X10.

Curious if anyone has run into any of these too??

Discussion Any alternatives to TaskCalSync?

Are there any alternatives to TaskCalSync?

It seems to have simply stopped working, and I emailed their contact, which promises 48 hour response time, and havent heard anything back in 3 days.

The function TaskCalSync provided is pretty much the core of my ToDoist workflow, and without it, I dont have much use for ToDoist...

Discussion Workaround for "waiting" tasks in Today view

Who has a good solution for this: I have a number of tasks, some of them recurring. Sometimes they're scheduled and pop up in my Today view, but I can't act upon them right away, because I might be waiting for something else. I can't re-schedule them (because I don't know how long I'll have to wait) and I don't want to postpone, if it's a recurring task. I label them as "waiting" but I can't exclude certain labels from Today or Upcoming view, right? So they remain on my view as "overdue", but there's no "elegant" way to hide them. Any ideas or workarounds? Am I missing something?

Help Project Color Grey vs Project Color Charcoal vs standard Inbox color

So I'm trying to use the project colors but I'm either blind or the "grey" that's available is identical to the "charcoal" that's available, and both are identical to the color of items from the inbox.

Can someone help me out? Are these all the same or am I doing it wrong?

Discussion Helpful (overlooked?) metric

I have been using Todoist for 5+ years now, and I recently just noticed a metric on the "Today" page (where I mostly operate from day-to-day) I've never noticed before:

In case anyone else isn't aware, this metric represents the total estimated time required to complete your tasks scheduled for today (sum of the durations you've assigned to your tasks). Tasks without assigned durations don't contribute to the total, so the full list of tasks could realistically take much longer than the value shown for that metric.

This is really helpful, especially if you are trying to gauge if you are overloaded on any particular day and need to reschedule tasks..

I felt the need to share it with others in case more people were overlooking that like me!

Discussion Do you use Todoist to manage your calendar? How?

I like using Ramble to speech-to-text tasks, but I wish I could do the same with Proton Calendar. Does anyone have success using Todoist to manage calendar-type events in addition to tasks?

Rant Doable projects

I wish there were projects in Todoist, like genuine ones.

So that you don't have to find a workarounds. Like see a task as a project, its subtasks as next actions.

While labeling it a "project"

Todoist is the best task manager in the entire existence.

Nothing smoother exists.

But if it had just a simple option.

It doesn't ruin their focus. It just lets you distinguish between tasks and projects. That's all. So that you can turn it on and off. I'd sell someone's liver for that kinda option.

What do you think?

Help Using Claude as the single entry point: it adds tasks to Todoist and keeps a spreadsheet log. Anyone doing something similar?

Hi ,

I'm moving my tasks into Todoist after years of scattered notes (Telegram chats, Apple Notes, a paper notebook). I'm a teacher, I do campus ministry, and I have two little kids, so there's a lot going on every week.

Here's the workflow I'm planning:

- I only talk to **Claude** (the AI assistant), which is connected to Todoist.
- I say: "On Friday I need to pick up a letter." Claude creates the task in Todoist (so I get the reminder) and adds a row to a **spreadsheet log**.
- Later I say: "Picked up the letter, paid $50." Claude completes the task in Todoist and updates the log with the completion date and the note.

So Todoist handles reminders and recurring tasks, and the spreadsheet becomes a long-term record: what I did, when, how much it cost, any comments. I never type in two places.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone connected Todoist to Claude or another AI like this? How reliable is it day to day?
  2. Is a separate log worth it, or would Todoist comments plus completed-task history be enough?
  3. When I check something off directly in the Todoist app, how would you keep the log in sync? I was thinking of a weekly review where the AI pulls completed tasks and updates the spreadsheet.
  4. Is Pro's full history worth it for this, or does the external log make it unnecessary?

  5. The todoist free option will be enough?

Or maybe otjer alternative

Thanks!

Help Is it worth switching apps?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I love Todoist. I've been a premium member for a long time now, but it's becoming quite expensive. I need the premium perks to continue operating how I am with Todoist.

I'm wondering if I should change apps? I came across this app, and it operates similar to Todoist. However, it just doesn't have that Todoist feel.

It practically does what Todoist does in every way, it's cheaper for premium, and even has a lifetime premium option. It even has a web-based option like Todoist!

Has anyone ever used this other app (Tasks), and is it worth the change? Or is Todoist the best app for productivity so far?

Bug Ramble recognition quality drop

I know it highly subjective, but is anyone also observing drop of quality in how Ramble recognizes what we want to add?

I’m using this feature from the very beginning and at first it was absolutely stunning. I was able to say incoherent stuff, in non English language (polish to be precise) and out of this it was able to create reasonably sounding tasks. Moreover I could edit them using natural language (combine these two, scratch first, swap, whatever). It was comparable (and actually better) to voice experience with ChatGPT. In particular it was usually able to figure out proper names and write them correctly.

Now it seems I’m talking to Siri. Task editing later? Forget it. I tried loud, slow, dropping proper names, not adding to project, not adding due dates… nothing helps. It still kinda works - 75% of time it creates a task, that is what works.

Anyone else experiencing similar symptoms?

Discussion Suggestion for List View

OK, I'm very visual. I would love to be able to have project tasks listed in their project colors (the whole task text, not just the check circle icon).

I know you can highlight calendar entries, but rarely use the calendar layout. I haven't been able to find a link to submit ideas or suggestions on their web site.

Discussion How much time do you spend managing your tasks in Todoist?

I've been using the idea of a to-do list to keep track of things, but sometimes I wonder how much time we actually spend managing our tasks instead of getting them done.

For those of you using Todoist:

  • How long does it usually take you to add a task and put it in the right project, add labels, set a due date, etc.?
  • How much time do you think you spend organizing and maintaining your tasks on a typical day?
  • Do you organize every task properly, or do you sometimes just throw it into your Inbox and deal with it later?
  • When plans change and tasks pile up, how much effort does it take to reorganize everything?

I'm curious whether this is just me overthinking my system or something other Todoist users experience too.

Discussion Gantts in Todoist - Ganttify alternatives?

When I run some projects, I find Gantt charts useful - For some of my clients, having a visual way of understanding duration and how long a task will take is super helpful.

I regularly see people talk about a tool called Gantify, but when I've looked into it, it's yet another subscription and not a very well-priced one either.

Has anyone managed to work out a workaround or find an alternative way to represent Gantt within Todoist? I suspect it will be within the calendar view?

Thanks!

Help Migration from Apple Reminders

Help Todoist Free to Pro to Free Question

Just want to say I am a big fan of Todoist and have been using it since 2019 regularly. I have been thinking of trying out Pro but have a little bit of a question I couldn't find a clear answer to.

I had 7 projects before the introduction of the limits, so I have been able to keep using the 7 projects while still being on the free version. Number of projects are 7/5 but I am able to use and edit all 7.

Now I know if I upgrade to Pro and then go back to Free the new projects I created while under Pro become read only. What I'm wondering is if I go back to Free do I lose the 2 extra projects I had since the pricing changes? I do want to try Pro mainly for the templates and calendar view but I will go back to free if it is not too useful. I don't want to lose my 7 projects because I tried this.

Has anyone tried anything similar? Any thoughts?

Discussion Close to Enlightenment 🧘🏾‍♂️

Good day Todoist family.

I’m excited, this is, I think, almost 11 years in the making. When I reached Grandmaster, the wonderful support team at Todoist, sent me a Todoist coffee mug, which I still use today. I thought it was phenomenal. I felt like I was a part of an international productivity family.

I know the Enlightenment is also gonna unlock the golden theme, which is gonna be nice with the dark theme.

I wonder what exclusive club would I be invited to once I reach the final level.

923 to go.

Any advice and wisdom from those enlightened ones in the Reddit world?

Help ChatGPT Plugin

Please excuse my ignorance but I am looking for examples of how Todoist users are using the ChatGPT plugin. I fully embraced Todoist several years ago after wandering the task manager desert for a decade and it has been a gamechanger for me. On the one hand, then, I am reluctant then to mess with a system that has worked for the good. On the other hand, I am curious to see if integrating ChatGPT would enhance that good and make organizing my life even more efficient.

Discussion What kinds of tasks do you think deserve a spot on your to-do list?

I'm curious about how people decide which tasks are worth writing down and which ones they just handle on the spot.

Do you put everything on your list, from small chores and quick errands to important work projects? Or do you only write down tasks that are easy to forget, take a lot of time, or have a deadline?

How do you decide what's worth tracking and what's not?

I'd love to hear how you approach this, especially if you've found a system that keeps your to-do list manageable without letting important things slip through the cracks.

Discussion Enhanced for Todoist 2.0 : fully redesigned, fully customizable, and still offering the features Todoist don’t have (Eisenhower matrix, project icons, folders…). And still free.

Post image
275 Upvotes

When I shared Enhanced for Todoist earlier this year, I got a lot of positive feedback, and a lot has changed since that first post. I'm excited to introduce version 2.0, a big update with many new features. I think you'll like the polished design and how much you can customize.

For those who missed the first post: Enhanced is a free web app that gives you a new interface for your Todoist account, with features Todoist doesn't have, like an Eisenhower matrix or task durations. It's completely free, and your data is never sent anywhere except to your own Todoist account.

New in version 2.0 (or added since my first post)

Choose your layout : pick a floating sidebar or a floating page. Then choose a colored version or a more neutral one with an accent color of your choice, including custom colors.

A task list that shows what you want: choose which properties appear on each task (description, dates, labels and more) and in what order.

Reorder your sidebar : choose what appears and in which order, so the app fits your workflow. Anything you remove from the sidebar is still reachable through the search bar. You can also reorder your workspaces.

Refined design: nicer details, rounder buttons, and better-looking boards.

Open tasks as a window or a side panel: you choose.

Notifications, project sharing and comments : check your notifications, share a project, and add comments, including emoji reactions to existing comments.

Project icons: choose the icon that best fits each project.

"I have time": tell the app how many minutes you have, and it shows every task that fits in that time.

Checklists in task descriptions: for when you don't want to create subtasks.

"Gathering dust" in Someday: tasks that have sat in Someday for too long are grouped together so you can decide what to do with them.

Customizable dashboard: choose the order of each card.

Already in version 1

  • Task durations, even for tasks without a date or time
  • Today, Anytime this week and Someday views
  • Eisenhower matrix
  • Daily and weekly review
  • Folders for personal projects
  • Subtasks visible by default
  • A better logbook of completed tasks
  • Dashboard
  • Quick tasks shown at the top of your list
  • Links

Data safety

Everything is stored in Todoist, including your settings and project icons. Nothing is sent anywhere else.

Links

Try the app for free on https://todoistenhanced.julesbertolino.fr/ and check the changelog on the GitHub page.

If you want to support the project, you can buy me a coffee.

Tutorial Todoist UI Enhancement: Calendar Rows Automatically Sized to Fit

Post image
31 Upvotes

Some of you may share my frustration at having to individually expand calendar cells with hidden tasks. I am referring to those thin, gray “N more” buttons (where N=1, 2, 3, …)—a poor workaround for the fixed calendar cell height, which is mainly dependent on the size of the browser window. The issue occurs both in month view and in the “untimed” row of the week and three-day views.

This userscript (https://anonymous.4open.science/r/todoist-cal-userscript-DDC6/) lets Todoist dynamically adjust its row heights so that no events are hidden. Written in JavaScript, it operates entirely on the frontend.

Tutorial Created a built-in Todoist Review system (with Apple Shortcuts)

Post image
13 Upvotes

I was trying to posts screenshots but I guess, my Reddit account only allows one image or a video. Anyway.

As like many of us long time Todoisters… quite of few of us have longed for a built-in Review filter in Todoist, that would design a function of examining the health and progress of a project within the intervals that we stipulate. This isn’t a rant or complaint, just an observation that a comprehensive Review filter that can allow users to flip through projects up for review is a much needed missing feature.

So I rigged one up. Its not on the level of other productivity tools native Review system, but it works. And… primarily, it keeps me inside of Todoist instead of going to another solution for that project management capability.

I carefully designed two Apple shortcuts that does the job that I need. The first one is called “Start Project Reviews”. Using Todoist API, I designed this shortcut to look for links. The links are uncompletable tasks (UT) tagged with a ‘review’ label, that are direct duplicates of the naming convention of the corresponding project. Each UT has the frequency and labels of that project that will show up in a designated filter called “Review”. Once I run the shortcut, than each of the UT are converted to completable tasks. Selecting that task link, directs me to the project. I handle whatever business in that projects. Once I’m completed or “reviewed” the project, I complete that converted UT. For the day. This leads me to my next shortcut.

The second shortcut is a 🔐 Lock All Projects, which uses the API to run a search for all completable tasks that have a ‘review’ label. Once it recognizes that task, it converts the task to an uncompletable tasks (UT). The unique adjustment with this shortcut, is its scheduled feature. I have this shortcut schedule for 9:30pm each night. That way with each project that is due for review in a day, it is always an UT. And when I’m ready to review projects, i run the first shortcut manually, and look forward to the automated shortcut to run in the background later.

It’s a workaround for the lack of feature. But it is working out to be a really damn good work-around. Although, I have two to three clicks to get to a comprehensives “Review” system, it works because I get to determine the review frequency and go directly to each project that I have spinning at that moment.

Maybe…. Just maybe…. Todoist users can continue to push the necessity for a comprehensive “Review” system incorporated into this powerful tool.

Mujasi.

Discussion Feature request - edit options within priority field

When organising tasks, I can assign them as P1/P2 etc. which is great.

However, I find it strange that I cannot rename them. Would Todoist consider giving users the ability to rename the options in the priority fields?

Building this feature then allows users to further customise the app so that they can adapt Todoist to meet their needs and not have to adapt their workflow to meet Todoist.

E.g. I might want to rename as urgent, if I have time, high priority, low priority, deep work, quick tasks etc.
