TIL Albert Einstein, besides his work as a physicist and mathematician was also a Fridge engineer. Together with a former student Leo Szilard he helped invent several new technologies in refrigeration and jointly held 45 patents, including a design for a fridge with no moving parts.

The fridge with no moving parts was invented in 1922 by von Platen and Munters. It's still sold and used where you want a silent fridge (caravans etc), or where you have no electricity (remote cabins).

Mr. Peltier might want some of the credit for the modern ones at least :p

Different design that requires electricity.

Ah, this is the famous propane fridge

There are some Amish companies that specialize in absorption refrigerators, but they use von Platen and Munters' basic design. They're said to last forever.

Didn't Leo Szilard work on the Manhattan Project? Like one of the bigwigs there?

Leo Szilard was the guy who actually realised, on Sept 12 1933, in the middle of Bloomsbury (London, UK) that the bomb was possible. So one of the true creators of the project.

Imagine if a time traveler went back to the exact moment before and just tripped him.

When they did that to Einstein Japan won WW2

Yeah he was one of the big wigs in Chicago. In the Oppenheimer movie, he's assisted by Rami Malek's character and spearheads the petition to demonstrate the bomb on empty land.

The Leo Szilard?

Yeah he had a Jewish apprentice who claim a lot of his work.

Shameful really, the guy derived general relativity from a compressor pump and thermodynamic cycling of CFCs.

And he played a blinder in Rdd Alert.

Einstein: Hello, is your refrigerator running?

And that man that fixed my fridge? Albert Einstein.

1

u/CCV21 8h ago

Albert Einstein worked on refrigerators to pay the bills for his real passion, quantum physics.
