Ever since I heard Under Control Coachella Valley 2011 version, it never left my rotation. I've come to love it even more than the album version, this live performance has some kind of melancholic flavour, especially in the beginning where Julian sings angelic, with only one guitar doing the melody. The way song builds up is incredible, and mostly this is one of Julian's best vocal performances, I think. Probably my favorite live performance by the band, absolutely love it.

For those who don't already know, openly supporting Lula means directly being against Trump's imperialism and Trump's hand on Latin America, a thing that has been going on. Trump has been interfering in the Brazilian elections because the far-right candidate wants to hand over the rare lands resources (lands with many valuable resources to be extracted) to Trump.
Meta is actively interfering with Lula's online campaign, reducing delivery and reach and preventing its AI from creating pro-Lula artwork. Meta had also cancelled, without any justification, Lula's profile from being able to run ads for his campaign. Meta has been hiding Lula's profile in various ways lately.
Meta deleted videos and posts from ordinary people that were gaining reach in defense of Lula. Instead of these people's reach decreasing, their content was simply deleted from their profiles without explanation.
Lula and the Brazilian left wing supporters (the common people, not only politicians) have also suffered censorship from the president of the national electoral court, who is corrupt and is favoring the far-right candidate.
Lula represents all poor people, and the rights of minorities and the advancement of the poor to better and more dignified living conditions, something that the upper class hates and that the middle class hates because they don't understand they are closer to poor than to the rich.
Some other artists here and there has been speaking up, and now The Strokes made their support. It's good to see always that a band doesn't make just one post about what they support once in a couple of years, but is persistent in showing the causes they defend.

I was just at the concert in Berlin. It was my first concert of theirs. I landed in the first row sort of by accident (I got early entry tickets but i didnt necessarily plan on being at the very front because of the attention that can bring- i just wanted to be close to the stage) Sure enough Nikolai comes down to the crowd- *exactly* where I'm standing... I couldn't believe my luck but I didnt know what to do so I just backed away and sort of akwardly touched his stomach with both hands 🥹 (he is very skinny) as if he needed to be held up and then he went away perhaps because he felt the lack of enthusiam and the awkwardness... Send help pls👍 i briefly contemplated hugging him but that felt intrusive and then the moment was gone and I just cant help but think it would have been better if he went to *anyone* else but my awkward ass 😭
Sorry for the rant- i know im very lucky and trust me I'm grateful...
PS: it was a great concert but they didnt play oblivious, ize or whatever happened and i fear that i cant die in peace without hearing these songs live
PPS: im sorry to the russian (I think) guys next to me whose jackets i accidentally trampled
PPPS: i have really bad post concert blues so any kind messages are appreciated 🥹
edit: grammar and i still dont entirely know how reddit works so this is my third attempt at posting this

Rules: You can only submit one song that resembles the sound the most, it doesn't have to be a perfect fit. No repeats are allowed. If a tie between two songs happen, I will recount the votes from everyone that suggested that same song to see which sum up more votes.

One of my favorite podcasts but I am afraid I’m too close to the subject for this one. I also wish that Yasi got better guests! Chris is admittedly not that big of a fan! Amanda rides for the band but is just not super knowledgeable. As a fan of the show, I guess it’s better when you don’t know much about the artists 🤷♂️

After fan submissions they landed on “Forget What You Heard” as the name of the news letter.

Julian: "HE SPEAKS GERMAN COME ON MAN!!!"
Followed by Nikolai forgetting what song was up next and Albert giving him a hint with the guitar line for Meet Me in the Bathroom (hint apparently not picked up 😂)

I watched a few instances of the Strokes’ cover of Blonde Redhead on YouTube, and Julian is not singing the original lyrics. It seems like he genuinely wrote new lyrics to this song. Hopefully we can get a studio release and finally understand what he’s saying.
Few more thoughts:
- I love them covering a much beloved but less popular band. I saw BR open on Bloc Party’s last U.S. tour and they were excellent.
- They keep missing the punny opportunity to play Is This It, then This Is Not.
- Sadly I didn’t see this cover in person, because they only teased it but didn’t play it at the show I went to.
