Beauty privilege
-91
u/yallermysons 1d ago edited 1d ago
Am I wrong or did he not fully serve his sentence like any regular person?
Cause the term “pretty privilege” comes from a masters thesis that compares the salaries CEOs make based on how they look. It’s not about regular people who are good-looking and it’s definitely not “he faced consequences like everybody else but he got a modeling job after and I’m jealous”. Being employed is arguably a privilege but I’m pretty sure this guy went to prison like everybody else would in his shoes.

u/Witch-of-Truth 20h ago
Bro what are you even talking about, this person has a criminal record, he had also spent two years in prison in 2002 conviction for robbery and corporal injury to a child prior to this mugshot. HE IS A convicted criminal, and even though he did serve his time, he recieved countless love letters, financial support from people all around the world and immediately signed with a modeling agency after he was released from prsion in 2016. So he was showered with love, money, attention, social status and handed a career DESPITE his criminal record (Which would've got him cancelled otherwise?) BECAUSE of his good looks. THIS IS beauty privilege.
A master thesis or a scientific research is not required to come to this conclusion. Just common sense and looking around your enviroment and other examples,
And yeah I'm jealous? I wish I was half as good looking as this guy and bask in all the priviliges it would've brought me. That's not to say beautiful people shouldn't have advantages but when a criminal can be excused and lusted after by thousands of people because of his good looks then IDK what to say...

It applies to social realms as well. It doesn’t exist solely in that context. I also think it originated more in collective discourse rather than one specific MA thesis.
Damn though I wish concepts from my MA thesis made it this far into the public spheres lol

u/yallermysons 1d ago edited 23h ago
No actually the author of that masters thesis coined the term and explains pretty clearly why she coined the term as well as when it should be used and applied.
Terms from academia regularly get adopted and misused by the mainstream. Kimberlé Crenshaw discusses this in a popular article about how “intersectionality”, a legal term not meant to be applied outside of the law which Crenshaw also definitely coined and isn’t just “part of collective discourse”, got adopted by the mainstream and woefully taken out of context.
These two Black women coined these terms for their academic pursuits and deserve credit for that. Let’s not erase their hard work. They face enough of that in academia.
The same thing happened with “cultural appropriation”, a term born of indigenous studies academics which was meant to describe the commodification of cultural epithets which lead to erasure of their cultural significance.
Be careful what you wish for—people might adopt your ideas, horribly construe them, fail to attribute them to you, and then double down on all of that when you correct them.
39
u/happybara_capybara 21h ago
The term “literally” doesn’t literally mean what it once did. That’s just how language works—it evolves based on how it’s actually used, not based on how it was intended to be used.
1
u/eveladra 1h ago
Just because something comes from something, doesn't mean that's how it is always used anymore.
-26
u/Friendly-Ad3559 23h ago
Idk why you’re being downvoted. Your comment was interesting to read.
-25
u/yallermysons 23h ago
I’m also literally and factually correct lmao. But sometimes people don’t wanna hear the truth.
36
u/i_gnarly 21h ago
I wasn’t arguing at all. As someone in academia who has studied some of the concepts you mention, I promise you, it’s okay to allow them to grow outside of the institutional walls of education. Terms do morph and change with time, context, and other factors. I’m quite familiar with Crenshaw’s work. I love that you are too.

u/Starlight-Edith 1d ago
Wait who is this guy and where did he get to?
106
u/Quirky-Shallot644 1d ago
He was in prison (?) And once his mugshot went viral (reference photo) he got a modeling gig out of it
108
u/deepspaceburrito 23h ago
He got more than that. He married a British billionaire's daughter and they had a kid.
Correction: they had a kid and then they split.
27
u/Quirky-Shallot644 17h ago
Yeah but the important info is he was a felon/gang banger turned model
20
u/lolathedreamer 14h ago
Nah the part of him being with a billionaire heiress is important too! Crazy!
2
3
u/makeupnmunchies 19h ago
What was he in prison for?
24
u/Quirky-Shallot644 17h ago
Criminal behavior 💀
Had to look him up for a refresher. His name is Jeremy meeks. He was in a gang, police did a gang sweep, and he got caught up in that. His official charges were grand theft and a felony in possession of a firearm.

u/awfulbarrack-7 19h ago
Deosnt the tear mean he killed someone?
14
7
u/seventy912 15h ago
No, the tear means he wants you to think he killed someone. He was in a gang but didn’t go to prison for violent crime.

Since others have given you their advice on the features, I’ll add that you also need to use one of the warmer skin tone shades and darken it a touch. He’s too cool toned and whitewashed at the moment.
18
u/iNourish_ 1d ago
You’re totally right. I will be doing more editing on him when I get home from work.

u/luluorange-700 1d ago
you did great. the only caveat is that you made his face too wide and his nose too narrow. his eyes and eyebrows are more further apart, as well. once you've adjusted those things i'd reproportion his neck and lips.
65
u/iNourish_ 1d ago
Thank you for the advice.
38
u/Secretaccount_2025 1d ago
Also, I'd like to say that his eyes are a bit too large, and idk if it's possible in the sims, but the real guy's face is much more "straight" on the sides (if that makes sense)
6
u/fairydust_tm 17h ago
I think just the upper half of the head is too wide, the jaw looks perfect if you compare it to the neck in both photos. Great job OP! I think small adjustments that others have recommended are good as well
2
u/Emmengard 14h ago
I agree with the other comment. Also he is too pink. He needs to be more olive toned.

Slightly widen the nose a bit and ur spot on!

Yeah my gf said the same thing. I really struggle with sliders and don’t know how to flatten his nose so I left it as it was so I didn’t mess anything up.

Isn’t this guy a murderer???
Edit: Y’all he is not a murderer! He committed other crimes tho.😅
36
u/lowsmotion 1d ago
that’s probably why he went viral for being a felon. creating him doesn’t endorse his crimes though
14
u/Low-Maize2396 23h ago
Doesn’t the teardrop mean he is?
26
5
u/Cubbance 14h ago
Literally anyone can tattoo anyone else whatever they want. If I wanted people to think I killed someone, I could tattoo a teardrop under my eye. Doesn't mean I actually did it, though. I have no data, but I would love to see some about the number of teardrop tattoos that people have vs. the number of people they've killed. I'd be willing to bet there'd be several that had a 1:0 ratio.

Sims4 had. Wry limited options. Considering what you had to work with, I’d say u did an amazing job

u/undercovergloss 22h ago
Out of all people, why the fuck would you choose a criminal lmao?? I guess pretty privilege gets you places 🙄
18
u/daemonlolita 18h ago
I didn't know we had to follow a safe list of people to recreate in a simulation game
8
u/trying2getoverit 13h ago
I mean, if you were to recreate someone like Hitler or Jeffery Dahmer in the Sims, I feel like anyone should expect people to have a negative reaction. I don’t know who this guy is but I feel romanticizing criminals is something we should try to discourage, just in general.
8
u/AIsBeforeGuys 18h ago
no it is kinda lame to give people like this attention it's okay to say that
3
u/daemonlolita 16h ago
Sure it is, but I can't say who or what people should do in their games. Maybe OP will drown this sim multiple times, who am I to judge

u/AccomplishedCake53 25m ago
OP made a post asking for opinions and you’re mad people are posting their opinions?

No notes here! Just a question: he on the gallery? I need to know for ‘research’ purposes…
3
u/iNourish_ 1d ago
He isn’t on the gallery currently. I’m planning to edit him a bit more given all the advice I’ve gotten from the thread.
2
u/thedreambubbles 1d ago
I think you should move his eyes a little bit higher, and give him more jaw + move his mouth down a bit. The face feels a bit small.
Also, the nose should be bigger and wider. You have him with a generic button nose, and he definitely doesn’t have that irl.
2
2
u/FragrantCod7247 16h ago
I think his forehead is too long lols. Otherwise you did a pretty darn good job! Some notes, make his nostrils a little wider and his head a bit narrower.
1
2
u/Typical_Knowledge_28 3h ago
To give constructive criticism: his nasal bridge and tip are too narrow, I think you should pick another base nose that matches him and THEN widen it or modify it, the alar rims are retracted (it means the nose is kind of slightly “flared” but the sim's version isn’t), his hairline is a bit higher and he has less hair, so maybe choose an even less buzzcut, he also has less eyebrows and they’re pretty much straight and tilted upward with minimal arch, you clearly tried your best in the lower third with lips, chin and jaw!

He’s a model. I searched up models on Pinterest and got him.

He's a convicted felon who has hurt children.

Gamers and creators frequently recreate historical figures, villains, and controversial real-life people in simulation games. It’s frustrating when people like you paint others out as romanticizing the person’s history and crimes just because they choose to use them creatively in an exercise in creative customization or curiosity. I am not an endorsement of this person's real-world actions.
3
u/Material-Bluebird817 8h ago
I wasn't trying to romanticize it?
0
u/iNourish_ 8h ago
No, but you and the other person are pretty much insinuating that I am trying to romanticize him. We all know he was a criminal, but I never mentioned any of his crimes nor painted him to be a good guy. My whole post was simply about creating him in game.
4
u/Material-Bluebird817 8h ago
To me it's kind of strange how you put him as a sim. it's your game that you can do whatever you want.
0
u/iNourish_ 8h ago
I never put him in my game save, just created a sim and saved to my library. But even if I did, like you said yourself, it’s my game to do whatever I want.

In my experience I don't ever recreate controversial people that's a big no from me
2
u/iNourish_ 8h ago
And I respect that. But I disagree with throwing those expectations on others and/or criticizing them because of it.

Besides the noise that's already been pointed out, I'd suggest getting some facial fine lines for better accuracy. Other than that, it looks great!
1
u/CalienteTraitt 1d ago
Amazing! Pull this features up a and apart just a bit to reduce the size of his forehead <3

I would say, if possible - cheekbones tad lower would be great too; eyebrows slightly higher (or maybe a bit of the whole face)
1
1
u/weird_doodle 21h ago
You did a great job! Hes just a little yassified, I would try different noses specially in the nostrils region, he's nose is wider and just lift the features a bit
1
u/AbroadFew2522 21h ago
lips are small(lower lip specifically), face is too wide, nose has a different shape, eyes are wide too
1
1
u/AluminumMonster35 18h ago
His nostrils are more angular and his eyes are more round and less extreme foxeye. Your sim is attractive though, I think you did a great job!
1
u/pissedoffjesus 18h ago
Are you going to make him a a criminal?
1
u/iNourish_ 11h ago
I wasn’t going to make him anything. I simply was testing if I could make someone from irl in sims 4 accurately and came to Reddit to hear everyone’s thoughts on my accuracy. Didn’t plan on adding him to a save or anything.
1
u/infojustwannabefree 18h ago
The nostrils are not flared enough and his jawline/head shape needs to be more elongated...other than that it's kinda accurate! Also for the nose there is a premade male nose on the game it's like the first 4 or something that would be similar to his irl nose.

Well, he could be Jeremey Meeks’ brother for sure. They definitely look alike. I think you need to round out his head just a little more and give him less hair. Jeremey Meeks is balding. I’ve seen him in enough Tubi movies to know lol. But you did do a really good job.
2
u/iNourish_ 11h ago
Yeah I tried my best to give him a similar hair and tattoos, but I didn’t have the exact things on sims 4 that he has in real life. So I just improvised and worked with what I had.

I always found it funny this guy was considered attractive. I take one look and think where’s the ruggedness? Where’s the evidence of a life lived? It gives me the uncanny valley personally.

You… made him look white.
1
u/iNourish_ 11h ago
So everyone keeps telling me. I’ll edit him som more later. 😂
1
u/Embarrassed-Stop-767 9h ago
You’re still 90% the way there, but changes need to be made with the nose, lips, and skin. Your sim has a redder undertone than the reference which looks more yellow, but that could be lighting.
1
u/iNourish_ 8h ago
I assumed it was the lighting myself, which is why I stuck with what I had. He is biracial, however I may have still given him too inaccurate features and made him whitewashed. At least that’s what others have said. I’m working on it now tho.

Omg the hot mug shot guy! Pretty sure he got out of prison and signed a modeling contract. Not too shabby

He needs a narrower head, bigger lips and more upturned nose but overall I think you nailed his facial features

u/AccomplishedSite8504 17h ago
here is my honest opinion, stop romanticise the evil.
1
u/iNourish_ 11h ago
Don’t think it’s that big of deal. I’m not romanticizing anything nor am I promoting any of his wrong doings by making him in sims.
1
1
u/EnvironmentalAd8846 18h ago
That’s a weird choice there
2
u/iNourish_ 11h ago
Is it? He’s a model. I was looking for a model reference to create within sims to see if I’d make em accurately.
