Discussion Amusement Parks U.S.A. Thoughts? It’s a fun song.
Not your typical Beach Boys song but I think its uniqueness makes me enjoy it as much as I do. What do you think of the song?

The Wrecking Crew
The members of Mike Love’s band also confusingly called ‘The Beach Boys’

Can any of the resident BB historians here tell me more about David Marks and why he was effectively erased from the BB narrative for so long. I know there were issues with Murry, but for example when he got snubbed by the RRHOF, why did none of the boys mention him? And for that matter, they omitted him from official biographies and whatnot. Was the matter legal or personal? I haven’t read that Marks biography to hear that side, just wondering if someone here could give the quick rundown on that.
I’ve been wanting to ask this for a while but didn’t want to feel stupid if the issues around this were already well-known, lol.

A wonderful documentary hosted by Mark Lamaar about the seminal album Pet Sounds. The interview with Brian in this is lovely.

Bass part originally played by Carol Kaye, doubled by Lyle Ritz on upright bass. Ray Pohlman also plays mostly the same bassline on a Fender VI six-string bass guitar, sometimes up an octave and with some additional notes in the outro.
Find the complete song on YouTube. The sheet music is available through my website.

Anyone know what exactly is going on with Mike Love? Yes. We all know he had some upper respiratory and Covid asks pneumonia earlier this year. Many family members sadly passed away but what surgery did he have? Is there something else that he barely walk and move?

I bought a 15 Big Ones/Love You CD (2000 reissue) but it hasn't arrived yet. I've read a lot on the internet that the 1991 Caribou cd reissue is the best among all of them. Can somebody describe the 1991 CD reissue quality?

If last weekends shows were truly it for Mike, I can't help but think the Hollywood Bowl shows from 4th of July weekend would have been the perfect send off. Granted, I know Mike was declining noticeably by then, but I'm not sure anyone (including him or his family) would have thought he'd be where he's at currently so quickly. But if there was any foresight, I really think the Hollywood Bowl shows should have been his last. Based on Al's recent interview, he is genuinely sympathetic about Mike's current state. Had the situation been more clear a few months back, I don't truly think if Mike wanted to make those forth of July shows a farewell, he could have got Al and Bruce to join him for it, and maybe even David. Obviously hindsight is always 20/20, and maybe if Mike knew where he'd be today, he would have considered stopping around that time. It's just really sad that if the Ryman was Mike's show, he'll become the second Beach Boy to have a for lack of better terms, grim last performance.

It’s so cool getting to hear Male Ego on vinyl since it was a CD exclusive bonus track for the full BB85 album. I love it!

I was in there for 90 minutes. They asked if I wanted music and I asked for Pet Sounds. It was a psychedelic experience with the music echoing, interrupted by the loud clanking of the MRI.
Has anyone else listened to the Boys somewhere unusual? I posted previously about listening while swimming which was awesome.

Though I love almost every single Beach Boys song there’s many to choose from but an honorable mention is “California Saga(On My Way To Sunny Californ-I-a)

Obviously, I hate to see him having to sit and barely sing, it reminds me a little too much of Brian towards the end BUT it actually strikes me as more heroic than overtly sad...
I don't think for one second anyone is forcing Mike to go out there - On the contrary, he's apparently insisting on being there on stage and I really just respect Mike all the more for it. He can be a notoriously stubborn guy. (for better or worse)
He is a BEACH BOY. That's all he knows. I would never want to deprive him of being able to be there, even if he literally just sits. Now of course, I understand some having complaints about the quality of his "performance" at this point (totally fair) but for those of us that have been with the BB's on their crazy journey, we've really seen it all. It does not bother me.
I believe he seems mentally coherent from the footage I've seen too.
When John Stamos and Brian Love helped Mike stand up at the end of the last two shows, I absolutely had the thought that it "won't last forever" and that it is sad we're clearly nearing the end but what I mostly saw was a total badass, who refuses to go fade away at home in a chair. Touring this incredible music we all love for 60+ years and still doing it at 85 has honestly been so inspiring to me as musician.
Thank you Mike, you're my hero.
May you keep going on whatever level you can for as long as you want to. When the time comes that you're ready to finally call it a day, we will miss you. Well done!
