Privacy ICE Planning $100 Million ‘Nightmare’ Domestic Spy Program - The American Prospect
https://prospect.org/2026/10/14/ice-planning-nightmare-domestic-spy-program-ero-one/1.3k
u/theweirdball 13h ago
We are witnessing the formation of Trump's secret police. This is a key step to establishing and maintaining a dictatorship. ICE will be used to surveil citizens, suppress free speech, and harrass and intimidate anyone brave enough to speak out against their criminal behavior. This has nothing to do with Left vs Right, this is an attack on the 1st and 4th amendments.

u/TheVog 11h ago
We are witnessing the formation of Trump's secret police.
It's BEEN formed. It's BEEN funded. Why do you think the Epstein files were leaked FOUR DAYS after H.R.1 was signed? That's how ICE got its funding for the next decade. That is what the Epstein files were leaked to hide.

So many people don’t care because them and their people haven’t been affected yet. This reality tho is that it’s here - kidnapping people and illegally imprisoning them and worse, and everyday the majority of people accept it because “well we are ok.” I’m so exhausted of being gaslit that what’s happening “isn’t happening to me” or “they deserve it” etc.

What the fuck are you talking about, the right is directly responsible for this
35
u/Akuuntus 8h ago
This has nothing to do with Left vs Right
This is happening because of the right wing. The Democrats are really bad at preventing the far right from getting everything they want, but it's still the fault of the right wing at the end of the day. Everyone building this system is on the right and they will use it to target the left. Save the centrism for some other thread.

Its not some conspiracy, just common sense. You all know the powers that be rely heavily on peoples digital and financial behaviors to find associations, patterns and relationships. Stop feeding it anymore than you have to. You're making it easy for them.

My conspiracy theory is that this is really why all the "data centers" are needed. Is some of it for AI/SI? Sure, but a lot of it is for keeping tabs on all citizens.
272
130
u/michigan-cartoonist 12h ago
Pretty sure this isn't a conspiracy and it was laid out in Project 2025... Data centers are 100% being created to aid a domestic survailence system like we've never seen before. They need AI to do the work of filtering, compiling, and weighing data from us (Flock for physical spaces, backdoors into all apps for digital spaces). Feel free to correct me though!
58
u/Best_Baseball3429 12h ago
So is it our constitutional duty to burn down data centers? Just want to get my name on the list early.
8
58
u/Jwagner0850 12h ago
Not just data centers. The detention centers too. Why would you need so many prisons of you're trying to remove people from the country in the first place
11
12
u/Wolvenmoon 11h ago
It's not a conspiracy theory. It's exactly what's happening. AI inference has reduced in resource usage by a factor of 30-50 for the model weights and up to 1500x for the context in some cases and shows signs of continued resource reduction per unit of 'intelligence'/capability. These aren't for inference. They're for surveillance.

So $1 for every person they want to deport? DHS has stated their goal is 100,000,000 deportations. That is 1/3 of the US population.
305
u/TranquilSeaOtter 13h ago
Nazi Germany found mass deportations to be logistically impossible and resorted to mass executions.
149
u/doneandtired2014 12h ago
Yup.
That's what the smooth brains who keep screaming, "Don't call them Nazis! You aren't going to win them over!?" don't understand.
The Third Reich didn't immediately start with death camps and it wasn't their second or even third option. It was settled upon after all other options were found to be either prohibitively expensive economically or logistically.
To those pearl clutchers and to those who thought they were gonna send a message by staying home in '24: buckle the fuck up, because all of that "hysteria" and "hyperbole" is getting real and it is getting real fast.
And to the "economically anxious" who threw their lot on with Shiza Fuhrer: history doesn't repeat but it often rhymes and you morons are now party to what amounts to a Nazi beat remix. The difference between what was and what is happens to be about the same as the difference between the bass riff for Under Pressure and Ice Ice Baby.

Even if everyone decided to stop using social media it would be too late for consumers to do anything, it would have to come from lawmakers.
Even without socials, your everyday movement is tracked and used, your everyday shopping habits, your personalized clothing style etc….
Apps like Google Maps + Waze or devices like pigeon (flock) cameras are used for location. Walmart / Amazon track your purchases if you use cards as payment. That great deal at the grocery store that you can only get with the membership card / shoppers card / your phone number track your eating habits.
And to top it all off these companies sell the info to data brokers who organize it so it’s useful and sell the data profiles to whoever wants them, and I mean anyone who wants them. There’s the obvious big corporations like Amazon who buy the info but also Multiple government agencies purchase data from data brokers about ordinary citizens.
It’s a big racket and the only thing to do about it is to vote locally / state / federal for candidates that actually give a damn. Do some research this election cycle before you cast your vote! 🗳️
→ More replies (5)18
u/Glittering-Quote-635 11h ago
Don't even need Google Maps and Waze. Just cell phone records. You're phone is constantly connected to Cell towers, and can be used to triangulate your position. On top of that, GPS is generally always on anyway.. I've got Life360 on my phone, I'd bet money they are selling my data on locations.
The sad truth of the matter is technology means we are always surveilled, and there is little we can do about it. As you said, literally the only thing we can do is pass laws that make using that data a crime. The data will always exist now.
This is why I plan on retiring to a unabomber cabin in the woods.

Everyone should at least stop linking everything together. Stop using Google or Facebook to log in to everything, stop giving instagram and reddit your real email. Don’t use your real name on anything, don’t purchase anything through their apps (always open to an external browser).
Preferably, don’t install their apps on your phone at all
And please, for the love of whatever god you believe in, revoke access to your photo library from all apps. They are actively scanning everything you screenshot, photograph, and download.

Even if you hate immigrants, at some point you need to sit down and ask how many dollars are worth spending for each dollar of perceived damages.
Do we want to rid the country of all immigrants? Or do we want to move towards UBI for citizens. Or fix bridges and schools. Help fund healthcare. Provide more money for state budgets. Etc.
It’s hard to understand the ICE budget because Trump keeps requesting more money, pulling money from other budgets, and probably straight up borrowing to a point where Congress will be forced to approve the bill.

Do we want to rid the country of all immigrants?
The South really, really loved slaves. Free work to increase production of cotton and everything else. Economically, they are great for the local owner-class.
Are immigrants who will take lower pay, not know their own legal rights, have less legal rights, and generally are a more vulnerable population not the ideal candidates for workers? Every factory farm uses them. Many fruit and vegetable farms use them for picking things not pickable by machine. Is this not the ideal group for capitalism to exploit? I don't get it, aren't billionaire companies shooting themselves in the foot? You can't get legal citizens to work shitass jobs for shitass pay, because they aren't sending most of it back to their home country where COL is significantly less.

Also helpless to Republicans blocking them even when they are in power.

You guys clearly don't value your own constitution.
You don't have to accept ICE. Trump's gestapo hide from the constitution because they were created to get past it's Rights that Apply to Everyone in the U.S. (Including Non-Citizens)
According to the American Civil Liberties Union and federal guidelines:
- Fourth Amendment Protection: Protection against unreasonable searches and seizures. ICE needs reasonable suspicion to briefly detain someone in public and probable cause to make an arrest. [1, 2, 3]
- Right to Remain Silent: Individuals can refuse to answer questions about their birthplace, citizenship, or how they entered the country. [1, 2, 3]
- Protection Against Forced Home Entry: ICE agents generally cannot enter a private home without a search or arrest warrant signed by a judge. Administrative ICE warrants (like Form I-205 removal orders) do not legally authorize non-consensual entry into a private home. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
- Right to Refuse Consent to Search: Individuals can decline to let officers search their belongings or property if officers lack a judicial warrant or probable cause. [1]
13
u/sachiprecious 7h ago
ICE violates people's rights all the time. They don't care about all the things you just listed. They do whatever they want, despite laws and the Constitution. Keep in mind that there are ICE agents who have murdered people and faced no consequences.

According to the statement of work, contractors will be tasked with conducting analytical research “to identify and assess relationships among individuals, organizations, locations, events, activities, data points, and other entities.” They will review information to identify “known, reported, or potential relationships; recurring patterns; organizational structures; associations; areas of convergence; temporal or geographic connections; and other linkages relevant to the assigned intelligence requirement.” Contractors will then “evaluate the significance and reliability” of the relationships and “prepare link charts, network diagrams, timelines, analytical summaries, written assessments, or other related products” for ICE to use.
To be very honest, all this already happens. The amount even tech companies can infer about us based on what we volunteer to them in exchange for their service is staggering. It's been going on for decades.
The truly sinister aspect of all of this is the intent behind it all. As the article says, it bears all the hallmarks of explicitly being an internal spy agency and secret police force. This will be used in the same way the Gestapo were used by the Nazis, or the KGB by the Soviets.

United States v. Verdugo-Urquidez, the Supreme Court established that non-citizens are protected by the Fourth Amendment domestically if they have developed "substantial connections" to the country (like living, working, or building a life here).
Domestic vs. Foreign Surveillance: Because these individuals reside physically inside the U.S., the government cannot use offshore foreign surveillance programs—like Section 702 of FISA—to target them directly. Federal courts have maintained that targeting anyone located on U.S. soil without standard domestic judicial review is unlawful.
Not to mention dozens of times CIA and FBI have been reprimanded or have been allowed to be sued, had evidence thrown out of court, or been considered unconstitutional if US citizens or permanent residents have been swept up alongside the target of the investigation.
We, as taxpayers, will be paying out settlements for decades to come.
