Team Melli News 🇮🇷 Iran’s FIFA ranking only drops 1 spot (from 22nd to 23rd)

Iran’s last win was June 2026 vs Mail in a friendly! Iran’s last competitive match win was June 2025 vs North Korea (WC qualifiers) ... I don’t get how we are so favoured by FIFA when it comes to fifa ranking… all of these teams below us from 24th-40th on paper are way better than us! Even based of most recent performance which matters most for FIFA rankings … we lost both friendlies 3-1 vs Uzbekistan (ranked 59!) and Russia 2-0 (ranked 35th!)

Bias aside where do you think this current Iran be ranked?

Realistically, I would say high 30s - mid 40s. But the list has always been very weird. Some decent countries are ranked way too low and some mediocre ones are always in top 20.

The rating will stay inaccurate for a while, with the FIFA ranking formula, because shifts upward or downward are very slow. It relies heavily on accumulated past results, and matches such as friendlies have minimal impact on ratings. We all know we should be in the 50s.
