Murals of Tibet baby sumo out now

The Murals of Tibet baby sumo is out now. It comes with the accompanying book, just as the Sumo version. Though I am happy that Taschen has made a much more affordable edition than the €20.000 one, at €1000 this is still an unattainable book for many. As this book will be of enormous interest to buddhists and (art) historians, students and lovers all over the world, I hope that Taschen will bring out an XXL or XL version of the book (+the accompanying book) in the future. For now thankful for this great effort though šŸ™šŸ»āœØšŸ¤

Damaged Taschen book arrived — what should I expect from customer service?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I ordered three Taschen books during a sale, and they arrived today. Two of them are in excellent condition. The Basquiat XXL, in particular, was packed really well.
Unfortunately, Helmut Newton’s book was just placed in a simple box with a bit of crumpled paper on the top and bottom. There was no bubble wrap or any other protection, and one corner of the book arrived badly smashed.
Even their AI assistant suggested that it might have been a display copy, but it’s obviously a new book — it was still sealed in the original thin plastic wrapping. I think it was simply poorly packed and got damaged during transportation.
The frustrating part is that the book is now twice as expensive as what I paid during the sale. Their automated support says they’ve opened a case for me, but I’m not sure whether they’ll send a replacement or just offer a full refund.
Has anyone had a similar experience with Taschen customer service? Is it realistic to ask for a replacement, or maybe at least a promo code/discount toward another Taschen book?

Lakers Taschen new release

Post image

I just saw that TASCHEN has released a new book about the Lakers, and I really want to get it.
Do you think it’s worth waiting for the next TASCHEN sale? Is there a good chance this book will be 50% off, like some of their other books?
Also, at the end of the page it says ā€œStay tuned for the upcoming Limited Edition.ā€ Does anyone know if there’s any information yet about this edition — what it will be like, how much it will cost, and when it’s expected to be released?
I’m wondering if the Limited Edition will basically be the same book with different packaging/cover, or if there will be significant differences from the regular edition.

Taschen's Customer Service Is Lying And Using AI

I’m posting this because my experience with Taschen's customer service has been incredibly frustrating, and I’m curious whether anyone else has dealt with something similar.

I originally ordered the 25 dollar Marvel Comics Library. Spider-Man. 1962–1964 (English), which had an estimated availability/delivery date of August 29, 2026. After waiting for the order, I contacted Taschen support on September 8 because it still hadn’t shipped despite the label being create on August 27th. Two days later I was told by a real customer service representative that there had been a logistical problem and that my package had been ā€œlost during handover to the carrier.ā€ I was then explicitly told that Taschen had ā€œarranged to ship a replacement that will be on its way to you soon,ā€ and I was given a new replacement order.

I assumed the problem had been identified and was being fixed. Except it wasn’t. The replacement sat there without even generating a shipping label, so I followed up again today. This time, instead of an actual person giving me an explanation, I instantly received an automated AI-generated response from Taschen saying something completely different: ā€œThis item was originally expected to become available on 29 August, 2026, but that date has now passed and the item is not yet available. We now expect it to become available around 4 January, 2027.ā€

So apparently my original order was simultaneously ā€œlost during handover to the carrierā€ and the product was simply not available? Those explanations don’t exactly line up. What makes this even more frustrating is that the second response was explicitly identified as being AI-generated. I understand that inventory problems and shipping mistakes happen. What I don’t understand is why a customer is given one explanation by a human representative, promised a replacement, waits again, and then receives an automated response giving an entirely different explanation for why the order cannot be fulfilled.

At this point, Taschen has had my money for 42 days, and I still don’t have the product or a consistent explanation for what happened to it. Looking at the order page for the product it says "Availability: Coming soon" completely different from the guaranteed date I was given when I purchased it. So I guess the AI answer is the right one? Regardless, at no point did they reach out to me to update me on any problems on their end.

If Taschen knew the book was unavailable, why was I told my original shipment had been lost and that a replacement was being sent?

I'm getting to the point that I might just charge back the purchase. Anyway just wanted to rant and see if anyone else was undergoing similar experiences.

Nick and Dent Sale?

Anyone order from the recent TASCHEN sale?

I ordered four books. Two arrived perfect, but two had noticeable cracks and dents. TASCHEN are now saying they were bought as part of a ā€œNick & Dentā€ sale.

I honestly don’t remember seeing anything saying the books could be damaged when I ordered.
Did anyone else buy during the sale and remember how it was advertised?

Tiny bit of damage from shipping unfortunately. For the weight of these books the packaging is just not good enough. Still happy tho, the art prints look better then i expected and for the sale price i cant complain too much šŸ˜…

First TASCHEN order — is it normal that it still hasn’t shipped after a week?

This is my first order from TASCHEN, and it’s been a full week since I placed it. It still hasn’t moved past ā€œConfirmed / preparing for shipping.ā€ The payment, of course, was charged immediately.

Some of these books are supposed to be gifts, and the date I need them by is getting closer. At this point I’m also worried that if they finally arrive damaged, there may not be enough time to get replacements before I need to give them.

I understand that sales can slow things down, but a week with no shipment update at all feels excessive. Has anyone who ordered around September 5-6 actually had their order shipped yet?

Hokusai Books Advice

Hi all!

In honour of the sale and wishing to spare myself unnecessary expense, I wanted to get your advice:

I already have the XXL first edition of the general Japanese Woodblocks book, and have just ordered the XXL Hokusai monograph. Taschen produces two more Hokusai books - 36 Views of Mount Fuji and Shunga. Basically, is it worth getting them? Is there a lot of overlap in terms of the contents/selected reproductions? Are the prints considerably better/bigger in 36 views as opposed to the monograph? Are the erotic drawings sufficiently represented in the main book, or do I need the Shunga book to get into any depth?

Any thoughts/comments would be most welcome!

Sale is up but prices are too.

This year the sales are not as good as last year. The 80 Euros books are now listed (almots all of them) as 50 euros instead of 40 like last year. The Shinning book, thea one I would like to grab someday, have a 70 euros tag price. Still to pricey for me.

Reprints in bigger formats?

Does anyone have any idea what are the chances for a book published in a smaller format to be reprinted in a bigger one? I know it happens occasionally, from my personal observations. For example, I got "The Art and Science of Ernst Haeckel" in 40th Ed. version about a couple years ago, and recently Taschen released the same title in XXL version, which I would definitely prefer if it was available at the moment of purchase. I'm eyeing "Anatomical Waxes" for some time, but I'd rather get it in a bigger format than 45th Ed. I also know that this particular book was reprinted several times throughout past 25+ years, but, it seems, only in smaller formats. So, I don't know if I should wait for a bigger edition of "Anatomical Waxes" as it happened with Ernst Haeckel, or should I abandon all hope? :)

Scam website: www.sunlighta.com

I just wanna spread awerness that that website is a scam website where it sells TASCHEN books with massive discount. You can't even copy-paste the link. The title of the website is "BIRKENSTOCK".

Because I don't find this information somewhere, so I hope people can find my message here. Have a great reading days, my fellow bookworms šŸ“–
