Discussion Albums As Seasons

Post image

So here are the albums I personally associate with different seasons/times of the year. For me, I couldn’t think of an album that was true spring it was either like a cold wintery spring or a warm summery spring. Let me know what you guys think. Do you agree? Would you change anything?

Disclaimer: I’m not claiming that these are absolute, just that they are my subjective opinions on what season I associate the albums with. I’m open to hearing how you would categorize them!

Fearless is April (so spring) to me, but otherwise I completely agree!

That’s fair! I could see that. I think because of the production it sounds like that transition between August and September. I think songs like Fifteen and You Belong With Me also make that first few weeks of school where it’s technically summer but aesthetically autumn association for me with the album.

I definitely see it as that late fall/early winter of November/December when I listen to it. Also the Christmas cookies are so sweet! I love that

I’d put debut and fearless in the spring summer categories they don’t really have much fall vibes

Winter ❄️

January - Midnights. Every hour of the day seems like it’s midnight, and you are left with nothing but your thoughts and the cold. Snow falls everywhere, it’s weird but beautiful. The dark skies are illuminated with twinkling lights, and you wish you gather the stars by the pocketful.

February - Tortured Poets. Slient dinners, and splintered winter days leave you alone in your room. You try to escape for a glimpse of sunlight, but the heartbreak feels like a never Monday in February.

Winter into Spring 🌱

March - Lover. Valentine’s Day is over, the Christmas lights are down, daylight is slowly overtaking the darkness. Losing your gloves in the fallen snow, and wishing to spend your upcoming summers with your lover. Towards the end of the month, the snow is traded in for rain; gray skies and rainy cab rides.

Spring 🌸

April - Debut. Spring is in full bloom, you and loved one are driving around in their pickup truck. The sun shines on the countryside and you wish to be with them all summer long. Sitting by the lakes with daisies in your hair, plucking your guitar.

May - Showgirl. After drowning in the melancholy of winter, skies have gone from onyx to opalite filled with pink clouds. Spring flings accompanied by ferris wheels, kisses, and a bouquet of lilacs, reminding you of the hope and beauty of spring. Lying in the grass with the one who calls you honey, life is good.

Spring into Summer 🌈

June - 1989 Beaches are open with clear -blue waters and high tides, summer is just about to begin. You can spend the days with your friends exploring NYC. Falling down the ubran rabbit hole, like a modern Wonderland. Polaroid pictures & parties, fun never goes out of style.

Summer ☀️

July - Speak Now The story starts, and it was and hot, and it was summer. Fireworks explode overhead while sparks fly whenever you’re around the one you love. Their touch is electric, and you wish you can stay with them sitting by the water. Enjoy the moment now, because time will turn these summer flames into embers.

August - Reputation. Island breezes & embracing your summer love that began after that storm on the 4th of July. Designer jewels and haute couture, the true idea of luxury. During the days, you’re driving in your getaway car - windows down, radio blasting. You feel the sun’s flame on your skin, & your lover makes your heart even more warmed. Drowing in their ocean blue eyes, like they’re some sort of sacred oasis.

Summer into Autumn 🍃

September - Folklore. August has slipped
away, and summer is still here. The last few days/weeks to spend by the lakes writing poems, before seeing your classmates in school. You pace on the rocks and look out to the sea, wishing this beauty wasn’t only just a summer thing. As the month ends, your hand reaches out for a cardigan to keep you safe and warm.

Autumn 🍂

October - Red. Autumn begins, leaves are falling down into place, and you grab your scarf & coat. Sitting by windowsill in a cafe, sipping coffee with a good book. The cold air is crisp, but sunlight peers through allowing you to admire the beauty of the red leaves, just before all color is lost. It’s a heartbreaking season that you know all too well.

November - Fearless. Football games, rainy days, pumpkin patches, horsebacking riding, and homecoming vibes, the worls is crisp and invigorating. Life starts to click, and suddenly, you understand why all the leaves change in the fall.

Autumn into Winter 🪾

December - Evermore. The world is picturesque, from the fallen leaves of the autumn chill, to kids and Christmases. Tis the damn season for gift wrapped suburban dreams. The world is dying and barren, and you cannot help but feel its winter sorrow, wondering if this feeling of dread would be for evermore.

This is a phenomenal analysis! I might have to reconsider some of my original placements. I love that we can all take different things from her music to form our thoughts about subjective categories. It’s interesting to see what people pick up on. I like that you incorporated the lyrics with the aesthetics of each album!

I would move folklore to the autumn section. I know it’s in summer/autumn but that’s not enough IMO 🤣

I respect that! I was definitely debating the two but it feels like a transition from one season to another for me because of how airy and light the production sounds.
