Litfic/Historical Fic Recs?‼️

Hi! Obviously here looking for some recommendations… I’ve really been into literary fiction, sometimes historical fiction, deep, character driven stories. I love sad, emotional stories that make you feel and think deeply about yourself & the world! I’m not super into romance, especially heterosexual romance but I can and do tolerate it for a good plot! Mostly interested in stories centering women!!!

Some all time favorites that fit a vibe I’m looking for:
1. All Kristin Hannah, but especially The Nightingale, Firefly Lane, and The Great Alone
2. The Bright Years (omg…. This one)
3. Almost Life
4. The Neopolitan Novels
5. My Friends & the Beartown Trilogy by Fredrick Backman
6. The God of the Woods
7. Sunburn
8. Atmosphere
9. The Frozen River !! Incredible
10. The Things We Cannot Say

Lastly, I’m currently 200 pages into A Thousand Splendid Suns and LOVING it btw! Okay go crazy

Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters. Set in the 19th century, it follows an oyster girl's adventures when she leaves home. It's a great story that was also made into a quirky BBC mini series.

The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden!

Kin by Tayari Jones and Heart the Lover by Lily King would be my other recommendations 😊

Maggie O'Farrell and Emma Donoghue both write historical fiction that centers women. Try Hamnet or Land or The Disappearance of Esme Lennox from O'Farrell. The Paris Express and The Pull of the Stars from Donoghue are both great.

Kate Atkinson's Shrines of Gaiety is also a really good one.

Sarah Waters is very good. I particularly enjoyed Fingersmith - literary, historical fiction, with a gripping, surprising and twisty story. It's fantastic.
