โ Questions Suspension Lift Advice Pt.2
Hey everyone, took a trip to the Poconos and the Subaru fit right in! Highly recommend before the seasons change.
Following up on a recent inquiry about lifting my 2002 Impreza Outback, and I settled on the Subaru Forester struts + socks method that several of you recommended. Please see the photo with the side by side comparison of the stock ride height, next to the Foresterโs.
I conducted a test fitting today, and it seems like itโll fit well with enough grit and elbow grease. However, I donโt want to cause strain or damage to my current suspension setup with the added height.
Which parts are recommended to swap out to minimize suspension strain and allow for more flexibility, for a daily driver? Itโd be pretty tight to force the Forester struts in as is.
Thank you all for your suggestions and support, itโs been a fun journey!

๐ General Discussion Overpaid for a 98 and now Iโm not sure what to do with it.
Back in June I made a regrettable impulse purchase at a local dealer for this 98 Impreza OBS. It has 193k miles and a pretty extensive service history, including the work I just had done to it this summer at a local Subaru specialist (AISIN timing belt, water pump, rack boots, cam seals). It also has the 5 speed and is pretty much rust free underneath. Iโll include the original marketplace description at the bottom for reference.
It idles and runs very smooth. The only flaws Iโve noticed are some minor dings and a very slight seep from the rear of the engine (likely backing plate or RMS; I was gonna leave it until it needed a clutch since itโs not enough to notice on the dip stick).
Even so, I think I paid too much at $4300 (I know, ouch) when Iโve seen comparable ones selling for $2500 or less. All in all Iโm about 6k into it, so selling now would force me to realize at least a 2k loss.
I also have a beater 07 Corolla (ugly but dead reliable) and a 1996 Tacoma 4x4 that needs some stiff here and there but is also solid and rust free.
Just wondering how severely I overpaid and whether itโd be worth keeping. It runs better than either of my other cars but also seems like the most expendable since the fuel economy isnโt as good as the Corolla, but itโs also not as capable on rough roads as the Tacoma, making it a bit neither fish nor fowl.
The original marketplace ad:
1998 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport
Over 40 service records on hand
Clean title / clean carfax
0 accidents
192k miles
2 owner (same owner last 25 years)
2.2L EJ22 engine (one of Subaruโs best engines)
AWD
5 speed manual
Heat & A/C work
Cruise control
Power windows, mirrors, locks, etc
Roof racks
Fantastic service history, all services done at Subaru dealer
New Headgaskets, camshaft seals, timing belt, A/C compressor & CV boots @ 148k
New serpentine belt & axles @ 172k
New power steering pump, transmission fluid, stabilizer bar links, sway bar links & valve cover gaskets @ 175k
New tires, front brake rotors & pads & diff fluid @ 190k
New crankshaft, camshaft & knock sensors @ 192k
Runs and drives great, really impressive car for the year.

โ Questions Recommendations for rear speakers ๐ ๐ถ
I have a 2014 Impreza Sport Premium and am looking to replace the rear door speakers as one is not working. I recently replaced the fronts with the Kenwood KFC-1666S, they have been fine, nothing too special. Should I get another pair or look at something else like the JBL Club 64FSL? I do not have a sub or amplifier and donโt intend on adding one. Thanks

๐ Help Me i need help
hello everybody i own a 2008 subaru impreza hatchback 1.5L, its slow obviously and Iโm trying to figure out how i can mod my car safely while also having it work properly. it is N/A and apparently anything i do will not really have much effect engine wise, i was thinking about getting a throttle controller so i can at least get rid of that delay. Iโm kind of embarrassed about my car itโs an automatic and Iโve only done slight cosmetics to it, i painted the grille black, replaced my worn and peeled shift knob for a sparco knob, carbon wrap on the mirrors to cover damages (seen in last photo) and black wheels. idk if my car is โricedโ or not so i need some opinions on what i should do. so far my next plans is the throttle controller, yellow fog lights, a better sounding muffler, and some good coil overs.
please give me some feedback i feel lost at this point.

๐ General Discussion 2015 Impreza with P0016
Purchased car with 170K, pretty clean, didnโt pay much. Purchased after 30 mile test drive, very tight, ran well.
Sat for a week before I took her for a drive.
After 50 miles, P0016. Dang, possible timing chain issue. Drove another 100 miles, no issues. Quick start-up, no chain slap, no hesitation, smooth and quiet operation.
Erased codes, drove 30-40 miles, code returned.
Got an oil change, erased code, code returned after about 75 miles.
My thoughts, intermittent nature and lack of other symptoms kinda points at intake OCV.
Instead of swapping banks, just gonna buy an OEM OCV.
Anybody wanna share their P0016 stories, good or bad?

โ Questions Trouble Replacing Fog light Cover
I'm replacing my driver's side fog light cover. There are no fog lights installed. There is a slight lift in the upper corner. I had replaced it 20 days ago and wondered if it just wasn't sitting right because I had a bit of a graze that knocked the original lose and broke the clips on that one. BUT it stuck in until yesterday when I went back to my car and it was gone. It was there before I left that day and I only noticed getting out of a restaurant.
HOW do I make it lock in correctly?

๐ Help Me Weird grinding noise
So I have a 2009 impreza outback sport manual and there is a kinda metallic grinding noise, but only during deceleration weather its in gear or im slipping the clutch to engage it. I think its something with the front diff and it hasn't seemed to cause any performance problems so far. If anyone knows what that is and possibly how to fix it that'd be much appreciated, thank you.

โ Questions Recommended Maintenance at 2 years but only 8500 miles
So I've had my 24 Impreza for just about 2 years but I don't drive it a whole lot so the mileage is only 8500 so far. It's about time for an oil change. So aside from an oil change, new oil filter and tire rotation what maintenance should I expect to need? The local dealership has a recommended $200 package that is oil change/filter, tire rotation, replace AC filter, inspection of axles, joints, brake lines, discs/pads, suspension, and parking brake. Is that a decent deal?

๐ ๏ธ DIY heated seat electrical connector
Hi, I got a 2004 wrx not so long back and looking at fitting heated seats, I've fitted universal kits quite a few times to cars but I don't really want to start cutting my trims to fit buttons, I got an aftermarket kit but OEM switches, I can't find the electrical connector specifically for the blue switch which in my case is the passenger side, I've found a connector that fits in the driver's, it's not perfect but it fits so if anyone has a part number or anywhere I can buy the connector id be much appreciated, I'm in the UK so scrap yards are not an option and I can't seem to find anything online. TIA

๐ Reviews Valvoline Restore and Protect
Hello! I have a 2020 Impreza with 268k (km) on the odometer. It was previously burning around 1 quart at the 10k km oil change interval so I switched to 6k intervals. For my last oil chance I used Restore and Protect and my gosh I was not expecting it to make such a difference. I'm currently at 5k km into the oil change interval and the dip stick still reads full, and this is just the first round. They say you need to do about 4 oil changes to full effect but I was not expecting it to start working so quick.
I would highly recommend using this oil if you have a higher mileage engine! At first I thought it was just marketing but fortunately the claims were truth (at least for my specific instance). Also getting your PCV valve inspected and replaced, if needed.
I was genuinely worried this oil burning was a lost cause and started looking at other vehicles but thankfully I can postpone getting another Subie. Just thought I'd share my experience thus far!

๐ญ Opinions Leaving the impreza family
Its been a good ride with the 24 impreza rs but i have come to a full decision on this. I do not plan on leaving the subaru family at all, i am 100% dedicated to subarus and only subarus till I die but I have been thinking about this all year in 2026 and I owned my car for 3 years still paying it off but I want to move up in the subaru line and have been eyeing at crosstreks or foresters in wilderness trim. I been hating the factory ground clearance as is on the imprezas and I dont even want to throw a damn lift kit on it at all and I promise to god I am a redneck but I hate lifted cars and trucks that shit actually drives me fucking insane. I seen the pros and cons now of the impreza and they are by far the best close distance cars ever, when you want to start actually long distance travel in a impreza literally at that point get a forester or an outback because i have done an absolute shit fucking ton of state to state traveling in that 24 impreza rs fuck the actual road debris son and fuck the potholes man sounds like hand grenades going off every damn time I bottom out and I am literally not intending to bottom out and cross into other people lanes to avoid shit at all, I only follow the road in one direction and one direction only

๐ Help Me 2019 Impreza Sport, rotational friction noise - need advice
Hey all, this is my first Impreza and CVT so I'm not sure what to expect here. I've been hearing a really subtle, rotation friction noise that scales with speed. I took it into a local shop thinking it was a wheel bearing issue, but they say they think it's coming from the transmission. They said possible issues could be bad transmission from the factory or something else entirely -- but nothing too serious to worry about at the moment.
36k miles and I drive like a grandma. Should I take it into a Subaru shop or not worry about it at all?
Any input appreciated.

โ Questions New owner, trying to decide on aero mods
I just got a 2020 Impreza sport hatchback. Absolutely love the way it drives and the handling feels great. Mainly got it because my car got totaled and I happened to get an amazing deal on this. Im not planning on any engine mods anytime soon aside from maybe a cold air intake just because I don't want to impact the reliability or fuel efficiency.
I'm trying to decide between getting a wing or a spoiler, I found 2 on Amazon, but if there are better ones please let me know.
To my understanding, if I add a spoiler, it'll reduce drag (and potentially the fuel efficiency if the reduction in drag more than offsets the added weight?) but won't add any downforce.
But if I add a wing it would add downforce, but mainly on the rear tires unless I add a front lip to add downforce to both ends. I've also heard that increasing downforce can reduce fuel efficiency because the force sucking the car down makes the engine have to push harder to keep the wheels spinning.
My main questions are:
Is my understanding correct?
What's a good place to buy these parts for a good price, if the ones I attached from Amazon aren't good
What are some other simple mods I could do that wouldnt put too much strain on the engine?
