Please read the rules before posting or commenting
Almost every subreddit has rules, and we do too. We used to get lots of posts about politics, LGBT, what if, and just basic trolling, all prohibited by our rules. We don't allow discussion of race here, because those discussions usually end up with comments that could get our community removed from Reddit. Also, the Rules didn't match the Removal Reasons, but now they do. We added a "Moderator discretion" rule, because it's impossible to create rules to cover every contingency. r/stupidquestions can be a fun and interesting place to hang out, but we had trouble with people trolling us with rule violations. For example, here are some of the topics that we removed:
- Do you think that if I could shoot laser beams out of my peepee, I could scare bullies with it?
- Do you think it would be safe to build my child a drone so I can save on plane fare
- Should I crash my car into a concrete barrier going 90mph without a seatbelt?
- Is it a good idea to hold a flame up to a 5 gallon can of gasoline?
- Why does my butt smell like ass?
We would ban the offenders, but they would create new accounts and return right away. So a couple of the users suggested putting in a minimum Reddit account age limit and a minimum karma limit to post. That has made things much nicer for the community. Karma is sort of an artificial number, but it tends to indicate that the owner interacts with Redditors in a positive way, and they appreciate him. What you want is to create posts or comments that Redditors appreciate so much that they give you a few upvotes.
Here's Reddit's FAQ page about karma, and here's more information about karma. If you are new to Reddit and would like more information about how to use it, please visit r/NewToReddit.
We don't reveal the age or karma numbers required to post. They are not very high, though. If you have a post removed due to your age or karma numbers, please understand that you didn't do anything wrong and we are not targeting you. This is just one of the ways that we are protecting our community. All of the blame for this goes on the trolls. New Redditors should be able to interact with the community, but it's too easy for someone to be banned, create a new account in two minutes, and return to trolling again. So we took precautions to make it more difficult for them. It's too bad that it also makes it more difficult for new members who aren't trolls.
Moderators will remove posts that violate our rules. The author is notified when their post is removed, and there's a reason given for each removal. Redditors who continue to violate the rules will be removed from r/stupidquestions. For extreme violations, the banhammer may fall instantly. If you play nice and follow our rules, you may stay as long as you like.
Thanks. Now go forth and have fun!

Is New York banning horse carriages really that big of a deal?
I've seen so many posts on twitter of people saying that Mamdani's administration is erasing a part of American history by banning horse carriages in Central Park. I know its a mistake to be on Twitter lmao, but is it really that big of a deal?

If a magic genie came out of a bottle and asked you if you wanted to not go number two again for the rest of your life, would you take the wish or not?
I'd honestly not take the wish. I'd miss going number two, and I actually kind of enjoy going number two. It makes me feel like a normal human. If you took the wish to never go number two again, wouldn't you be missing out on something?

Why do so many things have sugar?
Recently I have been counting my steps per day and calories on an app. It gives all nutritional info. For the most part I eat very healthy. My only downfall is I drink a ton of soda. But for example today, excluding my soda it says I have over 70 grams of sugar. This is coming from an apple, a yogurt, a uncrustable sandwich, and bbq sauce I used for chicken. How is this little bit of sugar, like I said excluding soda 70 grams of sugar? That is insane. Why is so much sugar in everything?
Here I thought I was being healthy by eating an apple and yogurt too.

Why, if Latin America is a producer and distributor of drugs, do we not see people high on the streets like in Los Angeles or Philadelphia?
I'm from Latin America, getting drugs is incredibly easy and relatively cheap, why don't we have a drug addiction problem? Shouldn't we see people high on the streets all the time in Latin America given the huge amount of drugs circulating?
Why is it so hard for Americans to accept that they have a drug problem and that drug trafficking is driven by demand and not the other way around? My father-in-law took a trip to the US, got a sprain, and was prescribed opioids. I had a sprain in my country and they gave me diclofenac.

Where can you talk about suicide?
The place I usually talk about it I guess is feed up with me. Online is the only place I can vent where the heck can I talk about it without being deleted? It’s so taboo and people act like it’s contagious so it seems like you can’t mention it anywhere.
EDIT: Before someone else asked I need specialized therapy I can’t afford.

So you know that argument that if you show a kid to lgbtq people kissing they’ll turn into that right? Why can’t I just show them straight people kissing??? Won’t that have the same effect????

A bit late, but why is "Primetime" portraying Chris Hansen in a bad light?
The movie still hasn't released in Australia where I'm from. Everywhere I'm hearing people say he prioritized entertainment over actually stopping the crime or that he wasn't effective in stopping the crimes.
My honest take, even if it was true....he still played a major role to try and stop pedophiles, maybe he could've handled the cases better? I don't know, but I don't feel he's a bad person at all for being part of the show

The museums mind artists visiting?
More specifically, when artist bring their travel supplies and sketch or paint the works of art?
I’ve been wanting to visit my local museum for months with my travel oil painting kit so I can do some studies and enjoy the museum, but I’m worried it might disturb the curators or they just wouldn’t want paints out there :/

what authority/ies clearly states that “you must leave people alone if they tell you to”(especially if they are the same sex)?
especially if the context involved a subordinate that dont like you or a bigoted power dynamic like: matriarchy, the gaza strip or some opressive society like jim crow?
