Day # 4 - Small Rant / Need Feedback

Hi all. Well, I quit smoking again, now on day 4. Its hard, and I feel very foggy headed. However, the good news is this - I had a minor slip this morning, and smoked just 1. Always bad, yes. BUT - I quickly recovered. The single slip was vile, and made me feel anxious. So, in a way, the slip makes me want to quit even more, since it was not enjoyable. Has anyone else had this happen? Where a slip was not bliss? Just curious.

Other than that, I feel tired also. Been sleeping a lot. I guess just take this one moment at a time!

Day four is basically the cross over day. It's the point where it's pretty much the peak worst. From here on out everything gets easier.

I'm not going to cushion it and say it's perfect tomorrow, but it DOES get easier from here. A little bit every day. If you get through today and tomorrow, as long as you stay vigilant, the worst of the physical stuff will be done. At that point it's the mental game. Everyone plays that one differently, but if you stay strong YOU GOT THIS!

Having another smoke now will only undo the last 4 days, and you'll be stuck in this loop again. Stick with it. You CAN do it.

Thanks for the advice. You know, its strange.... I just had a rough fight with a family member. Its been forever since this has happened. I smoked 3 in a row, back-to-back. Its self-defeat. I hated them, and myself. In the past, I'd smoke another 6 months due to this. I simply wrote down the new day and time, and I'm back to quitting. Leaerning experience - it doesn't help at all to smoke. I hate the habit, and I hate cigarettes even more. I'm done. I know I've said this 70 or 80 times over 31 years, but I'm done.

Yeah, everyone talks about first 3 days, but day 4 was terrible for me too.

Thanks for the advice. I'm back on course after another slip. I posted to the other poster seen below what happened. I'm done.

That's a good sign imo. Just keep going at this point. I would also start to track your cravings, meaning when they happen and in which situations. You could do this on paper or with an app like Lungo. This is something that helped me a lot cause it showed me what to look out for.

Yeah. I mean it's a bad thing because people who smoke one are very likely to lapse entirely within a month.

BUT I agree with you completely, there's no bliss in that one cig we fantasize about. It doesn't taste the same as it used to, it doesn't give the buzz, the intense relief etc. It's actually disappointing.

Also it's easy to think "well I'm super stressed, smoking will help" but it's guaranteed that the stress won't go anywhere even if you smoke one. You'll be just as stressed but also you just smoked a very unsatisfying cig.

I've kept reminding myself of all of this when I have craved one. And that to actually enjoy it, I would have to go back to being a smoker first. I mean I'm a grown ass woman, if I want to be a smoker again so I can enjoy that one cig, I'm allowed to do that, and I won't let anyone shame ir moralize me for it. So do I want that?

Well. This has made handling cravings strangely easy for me. Because, well, I don't really want to do what it takes to have that one cig I fantasize about. Truthfully, I don't want any cig. I just want to feel normal again.

I hear you. I'm sorry to say I had a full relapse. Been smoking all evening. I'm going to try again very soon. I'm going to reference your post, as you have good advice. I'm rooting for you too! I'll pray for all of us. Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling so. Well, I've understood quitting smoking requires practice from most people. I know I've had plenty of practice runs. You'll get back on track.

And thank you! We are all different, and I've found it has really helped me to reframe a bit, not thinking I "can't" or "am not allowed to" or even "shouldn't" smoke because that kind of thing antagonises me. I can and am allowed to smoke if I so choose to. But there's no "just one", thats like one tried to smoke in secret from oneself, pretending it didn't happen. If I want to smoke I better get smoking for real, knowing what I'm doing. Framed like that, the decision hasn't been that hard.

All of this is very true. Its one hellish habit. It really snags people... Thanks again, friend! Good luck! I will post updates as they come.
