First week at this

If you all could be so kind, could you list the number one benefit you’ve noticed from your journey? I’m tired of the bad sleep. I’m tired of losing a whole day due to recovering from a bad hangover.

I reached the point where I realized I was justifying my drinking. If I gave it a reason, it was okay. A sporting event, a bad day at work, a simple accomplishment, etc.

I usually only drink on the weekends so I’m not an alcoholic! That’s just two days a week. Wrong. When I drink, I can’t drink enough. A 6 pack? I can’t enjoy it because I’m already thinking that’s not enough. It has to be at least 12 and I drink it in 4/5 hours every Saturday night and turn around to drink a similar amount on Sunday.

I’m determined to quit completely but I know the hardest part is in front of me. The weekend.

What positive change have you all noticed the most about quitting? Thank you.

I was the same way! drinking every weekend and waking up around 3pm on monday because i was so hungover, calling off work (i almost got fired for this) alcohol just stopped doing it for me now because it was ruining my fucking life. everytime i think of it i get so disgusted by it honestly.
the best thing for me is having a clear head and being 100% at work, working out, school, etc. and sleep is a lot better. id have awful anxiety/ panic attacks/ racing thoughts/ insomnia. I’ve been a few weeks sober, don’t see myself going back. you got this. as far as weekends, that was hard for me also because i’d get super bored or very tempted to join my friends at the bar but i’ve started substituting it with getting a bunch of snacks and playing video games/ watching a show. and just remember you won’t ever wake up the next morning and say man i wish i would’ve had a drink last night, you will say the opposite though.
wishing the best for you truly. ur stronger than you think

‘you won’t ever wake up the next morning and say man i wish I would’ve had a drink last night’

Thank you for this! Adding this to my list of things to read each day. So so true

The sleep is soo good. Waking up refreshed. No nausea, no hangxiety, no aches (head, leg cramps, GI issues, reflux). More energy. Clear head. Getting things done. Feeling calmer, less impulsive.

Much better physical and mental health, via much effort on the latter that only began with some sustained sobriety.

I turned out to be a lot more successful in all aspects of my life once I got some sobriety

I was a severe drinker so the not having to desperately get a bottle to not die was my main one, but for something outside that, my social life has developed so much more. I’ve made amazing relationships in recover, but the biggest of all is I’m learning who I am myself

Everything is a few notches better. Food tastes better, breathing fresh air doesn't hurt, sleep is deep and refreshing, I look forward to the small things rather than seeing them as daunting tasks. And oddly enough, I don't hate going into work as much. Because I don't feel shitty figjting a hangover and I'm much lighter on my feet. Also..the no bloat due to inflammation is such a good feeling.

For me, it's waking up without that horrible anxiety and regret from the night before. Not having to piece together what I said or did, and actually being present for my family. I'm still early in my recovery, but that peace of mind alone has been worth it. IWNDWYT ❤

Literally everything is better. Sleep, mood, motivation, energy, drive, parenting, productivity, weight, bowel movements, intimacy with my partner, interest in the things around me, being more present with loved ones, enjoying hobbies again.

I'm just returning home from my first trip alcohol free and I was able to do so much more with that precious time by simply not being hungover. I'll never go back.

Short version? Pretty much everything. The poops are better. The sleep is better. The sex is better. The friendships are better. The work is better. It didn’t happen overnight, and there were quite a few messes that needed to be cleaned up, but damn near enough everything got better.

I am 9h into day five now - despite the nightsgift, I have just had the best sleep in months! Pulse down to 49bpm (from 60-70 whike being drunk), HRV up to 80ms (formerly 20-30ms). I awake feeling... recovered, fresh. No headache, no tingling behind the eyeballs, a lot less brainfog =)

I am enjoying my mornings 100%. Enjoy hitting my am workouts without being fuzzy headed or worse yet, hungover. My work has already improved. IWNDWYT!
