Awesome! What did you use for the cable setup? Some sort of hdmi converter?

VGA to DP adapter did the trick, all supported resolutions and refresh rates show up as well

Ahh, does the overlay work alright? I was trying to get my little zenith crt to work but the 4:3 resolution makes the steam overlay wig out. I can open it but can't interact with it. But if I set it to 16:9 it'll work just fine... But it's 16:9 in a 4:3 box.

This is awesome!!! I’ve got a few CRTs in storage I’m hyped to pull out and get going with the SM.

Good image and motion quality from low resolutions could extend the life of this thing quite a bit but it is funny to me to think about having a tiny svelte cube hooked up to a 60+lbs behemoth of a monitor haha

I see that you use discord as an added game to your library. Just wanted to let you know there is a much better way to have DC on steamOS, it’s called steamcord. Highly recommend you to check it, it was a gamechanger for me!
(Awsome setup by the way ☺️)

Motion clarity on CRT 75hz looks better than some OLED monitors :)

Why CRT ? I grew up with CRT from the 70’s. Hopefully we are now using LCD or OLED with better frame rate, without the magnetic problems if a loud speaker is near the monitor, without the ultra high pitch noise of the CRT, with high definition to read characters easily. Moreover, PC games today are not made for CRT screens with their mixing line colors in mind.

frame rate / refresh rate is only one metric. yes, it is better in modern displays.

however, pixel persistence--how long a pixel is actually visible on screen between frames--is massively superior in a CRT. this gives them extremely good motion clarity even at lower refresh rates. people also like the phosphor glow and natural anti-aliasing / color blending that comes with crt. superior latency, too...

every display tech has pros and cons. I use a crt for retro games and 4:3 content

False.

Side by side eve the newest OLEDS still look like absolute sht compared to CRTs. Not to mention you can get widescreen CRTs if aspect ratio is an issue.

Refresh rate? Lmao, people were playing Mario 64 at like twenty frames and NOBODY was complaining about it, now it’s just Neckbeards who whine and complain whenever their game is rendering less than 200 frames a second, even though the entry level consumer screens are very often ONLY 60hz refresh rate anyways.

GF’d.

No they don't.
