Discussion Steam Machine- I’m obsessed!

I’ve wanted one since the first announcement , joined the reservation list, and finally got mine last week. I was debating whether it was worth the money, but now I have zero regrets!
Red Dead Redemption, Split Fiction, Batman, and even STALKER 2 are running amazingly. My only regret is getting the 512GB version instead of 2TB, but I’ll fix that eventually.
I’m absolutely obsessed with this little boy. ❤️

Genuine question... actually, two. How do people keep their houses dusted so well and how do people not have clutter everywhere? I always feel like I am constantly dusting and I have no room for anything. Sigh.

De-clutter. See what you can sell, throw out, or move to storage. You'd be surprised.

In terms of dusting, I use one of these

Thanks, I use something similar to that Swiffer, but might try that one out instead. I guess with a dog and a kid, I feel like I am constantly dusting :-/

As far as decluttering goes... BUT I NEED MY STUFF! I mean, maybe you're right. Time to get to work.

Yeah with a kid and a dog you may just have to embrace the mess for a while haha

Dust weekly and an air filter. I think getting a winix and coway air filter helped more than anything honestly. Dust is going to settle regardless but I found that keeping up with it weekly to biweekly helps and whatever accumulates during that time is just us living life.

A huge part of dust comes from dust mites. I'm highly allergic to them. So, besides avoiding clutter. I clean surfaces with some cleaning product "stronger" than water, I vacuum and steam the floor and use UV lamps around the house. This drastically reduces the mite population ---> less dust.

Air purifiers help with dust. That and just regular dusting

Hire a cleaner once in a while. You'll find yourself decluttering before they come and they'll leave your house looking like that each time.

Congrats man. I recommend eventually getting a bigger sized TV at that distance.

Dont know why the downvotes, i wouldnt honestly see shit on this distance

Tv is 55”, may look smaller on the picture. It’s not bad at all but 60-65 would be cool

It's not that bad irl like in the picture. Photos like these always make the screen look too small.

"it looks even bigger in person"

How the fuck do you read anything on the screen from that distance

It’s not bad at all. It’s a huge tv. I don’t know why the picture is like this. The distance from the 55”tv is maybe 12 feet.

The distance from the 55”tv is maybe 12

Holy smokes, that's wild. 65-75" minimum at that distance.

I give you permission to get a bigger TV

Does alexa talk to it?

Not on her own, only when I ask her something

For storage I use an extra 1TB HDD I had. Connected it to the higher speed port on the front and it works great for basically any game before like 2020. And of course all non demanding games.

Playing in 4k?

2

u/Middle-Transition888 1d ago

I don’t think so, honestly I don’t even know. I find the picture is beautiful anyways. It’s probably 1080 or 1440 max ))) I never played in 4 k anything yet even on my 3060 laptop as it can’t handle)

Nice. I get the appeal of the hop on and off experience with steam os. Windows has so much friction, more on the TV use case. Waiting for a Xbox Helix showcase before I decide on my next gaming pc situation.

At that distance 1080p would be just fine anyways.

I'm torn, I've been on the preorder list since it opened up. Now that the new Xbox PC is coming out and will be able to play Steam games on a system about the size of a PS5 with GPU performance close to a RTX 5080 supposidly priced similar to the Steam machine launching in 2027. I'm not sure if I want to buy the Steam machine for my mancave or wait for the Xbox PC. I already have a RTX 4070 ti super in my office.

You trust Microsoft more than Valve?

I don’t.

2

u/Middle-Transition888 1d ago

Yeah, if it can play steam games just wait then. It’s nice thing and I love it, but if Xbox can offer more for the same price then it’s worth it…. Who knows.

here's a question for you how much more is the Helix going to cost

and has Xbox confirmed that it will play Steam on helix?

no they have not

u/xplayfan 1d ago

that is a year old

plans change and like the other guy said down below it is at a premium price

4

u/AdHappy7129 1d ago

“Premium pricing.” I doubt it’s going to be the same as the steam machine. It’s going to be a souped up version of the steam machine. Which is great if you have the money but i think the time of gaming consoles costing a couple of thousand are upon us.

Same here, got the 512GB and the only regret is not opting for the 2TB option as the prices for the SSDs are north of 500 EUR now.

Idem, for me is a addictive form factory!

Congratulations! Nice to see you're enjoying it. I'll keep my Steam Deck for now and stream from my laptop (3070XT) if needed.

Ps. Where did you buy the halloween cat 😄?

Do you have to use the steam controller or can you plug in any controller to use this?

2

u/Middle-Transition888 16h ago

You can plug any controller. I use steam one and my wife uses Easy SMX D10 my other controller which is amazing. We just played SplitFiction and it’s such a cool experience together :)

I tested out my 8Bitdo Ultimate 2C and Logitech F310 with mine and they worked perfectly.

Same, I haven't touched my PS5 in months. And despite what people originally thought, you can make some games look and run better than PS5, especially if you can get it to work with Proton Exerimental and run FSR 4. FSR 4 is a freaking game changer, so much clearer than 3.
