Software/Software Mods DeckyShare v1.1 – wireless file transfer between Steam Deck and phone/PC, no app needed (big update)
Hey everyone! I just released DeckyShare v1.1, a Decky Loader plugin for moving files between your Steam Deck and your phone or computer over Wi-Fi. No app on the phone/PC, it all works in the browser.
What’s new in v1.1
- Completely redesigned Deck panel and phone page: cleaner, bigger buttons, works well with the controller
- Connect a PC/Mac easily: open the short address shown on the Deck (like 192.168.1.20:8787) and type a 6-digit code. Phones still just scan the QR code
- Live speed + time left, and a warning if the transfer stalls (no more guessing whether it froze)
- Cancel transfers from the Deck, not just from the phone
- “Received files” list shows where each file came from (e.g. “From iPhone · 3.1 GB · 2 min ago”)
- Wi-Fi check in the panel: shows the band, link speed and signal, with hints if your Wi-Fi is the bottleneck
- Faster, more reliable uploads for big files (Maximum Speed mode, plus resumable modes that survive Wi-Fi drops)
- Security: every device needs the QR token or a one-time code (v1.0 had no protection, so please update!)
- Built-in updates: install new versions from More → Updates in the panel
Speed note: transfers go phone → router → Deck, so your Wi-Fi decides the speed. In my testing it was ~4–5 MB/s with a weak signal (−74 dBm) and 20+ MB/s near the router on 5 GHz. The new Wi-Fi check tells you which situation you’re in.
Install (not in the official Decky store):
- Decky → Settings → General → enable Developer mode
- Developer → Install Plugin from URL and paste: https://github.com/gillrajvir950-wq/deckyshare/releases/latest/download/DeckyShare.zip
Already on 1.1.0? Just open More → Updates.

Feedback and bug reports are very welcome, especially from Android users, since I’ve mostly tested with an iPhone. Open an issue on GitHub or comment here.
Transparency: parts of this were built with the help of AI coding tools. It’s open source, and feedback or contributions are welcome.

You may want to just set up FTP, SFTP (you probably already have it if you enabled sshd service) or SAMBA on your Steam Deck instead and drag'n'drop files from your file explorer or programs like FileZilla or WinSCP. It's faster, doesn't require Decky, and you can freely delete/move/copy files from and to your Steam Deck.

How do I do that? Is there a tutorial?

I don't have any on hand, but you can find plenty on YouTube and other sources.
If you have set up a sudo password and enabled sshd service in the past on your Steam Deck, you have SFTP server already running in background. Now you can use FileZilla/WinSCP/your favorite file explorer (if it supports sftp protocol) to connect to
deck@<IP of your Steam Deck>.

what's the advantage of using this over deckyfileserver?

DeckyFileServer is great if you want to browse and download files already on the Deck. DeckyShare is more focused on quick phone/PC Deck transfers, with QR or 6 digit pairing, token based access, live speed/ETA, Deck side cancellation, Wi-Fi diagnostics and resumable modes for large uploads. So they overlap, but the workflow and focus are different.

deckyfileserver has an upload function. also, couldn't you have answered yourself instead of getting ai to do it for you?
