There is a ridiculous paradox called Banach-Tarski paradox. If you take a solid sphere and then slice it into just 5 ridiculously complex pieces and after that you rearrange them using only rotation and translation, you end up with two full spheres identical to the first one. It sounds like a stupid math breaking glitch but it’s a 100% real mathematical theorem.

The trick is that the cuts you make are so insanely weird and infinitely scattered that the pieces literally lose the concept of having a volume while they're apart. You’re not stretching or adding material rather youre basically taking advantage of the fact that math points arent made of atom, so volume jus stops applying until you put them back together.

So yeah mathematically you could turn a pea into something the size of the Sun. Reallife physics won't let you do it with an apple because atoms exist but pure math genuinely lets you duplicate matter for free.

Water might not be wet.

This is because most scientists define wetness as a liquid’s ability to maintain contact with a solid surface, meaning that water itself is not wet, but can make other objects wet.

Thanks

According to general relativity, time passes slightly more slowly in stronger gravitational fields. Since our feet are closer to the center of the Earth than our heads, time passes ever so slightly faster at head level than at foot level. Over a human lifetime, this means that a tiny fraction of a second more time elapses in our brains than in our feet.

Thanks for the chance!

The only thing scientists love more than naming things after themselves is naming things after silly or nerdy things. For example, my favorite gene ever is the INDY gene. Now, lots of genes are named for their functions. Like BRCA1 and BRCA2 are named for their functions as tumor suppressors, specifically in breast cancer. But not INDY. INDY literally stands for I’m Not Dead Yet, so named for its association with longevity in fruit flies. I’m also really fond of the RING domain in some genes. Which of course stands for Really Interesting New Gene. Thanks for the chance!

Time dilation near a black hole creates a scenario where falling toward the event horizon causes time to slow down dramatically from your perspective, allowing you to watch the entire future history of the universe unfold in fast-forward before you cross the boundary. Simultaneously, the extreme gravitational gradient would stretch your body into a long, thin shape in a process scientists call spaghettification.

There is a thought experiment called the „Boltzmann Brain“ in which it is theorized, that by the random fluctuations of the physical space itself, after almost infinite time, some sort of brain could just *poof into existence! With its own consciousness, own thoughts and memories - even though none of those obviously ever happened… It would be as if the universe itself just decided to create a life, not from the start, but thrown right into the middle, without a body or a past.

Maybe it could even think about its mere possibility of existence granting some random human a nice game to play :)

The Boötes Void (pronounced roughly boh-OH-teez void) is one of the most famous enormous regions of space where surprisingly few galaxies exist. It's sometimes called the Great Nothing. Light takes about 8 minutes to reach Earth from the Sun, and about 2.5 million years to reach us from the Andromeda Galaxy.

Now imagine a region of space hundreds of millions of light-years across, with so few galaxies that enormous distances separate the ones that remain.

For perspective, the Milky Way is about 100,000 light-years across. A 330-million-light-year void is roughly 3,300 Milky Way diameters wide.

There might be dinosaur fossils on the moon

Scientists note that while highly unlikely, fragments of ancient Earth material—including tiny fossil pieces—could theoretically have reached the Moon through asteroid impacts

Empty Space: Solid matter is mostly just empty space because atoms are overwhelmingly composed of empty space around a tiny nucleus. If you stripped the empty space out of all the atoms in every human on Earth, the entire human population would fit inside the volume of a single sugar cube.

The color pink doesn't exist on the color spectrum when light is seen through a prism or on a rainbow. It is only produced by the receptors on our retina.

The footprints left by the Apollo astronauts on the Moon will probably still be there in 100 million years, since there's no wind or water to erase them.

The next time you touch GOLD or SILVER, remember that those metals existed long before the Earth itself and was a by-product of star explosions scattered in the universe. It's so easy to undervalue such things as done already

Space is a vacuum and sound waves can’t travel through it in the same way they do on Earth, meaning you wouldn't be able to hear anything in space. But space isn’t entirely silent. Electromagnetic vibrations, like plasma waves or magnetic field interactions, can be translated into sound by instruments. NASA has even 'sonified' data from planets, stars, black holes and nebulae, turning invisible cosmic phenomena into eerie soundtracks.

u/I_moo_at_people 6h ago

Time is not linear, and is completely relative to your location in space. In two weeks for the voyager 1 craft which was sent into space in 1977, where it is right now, it will take two weeks for it to reach thousands of light-years away from us, while for us it'll have been hundreds of thousands of years. (Might not remember entirely, but that's the gist)

Even goi g from earth to the moon, there is time distortion that is documentable in astronaughts

If you could somehow stand on Mercury's surface, the Sun would rise, stop, go backwards for a bit, then rise again, all in the same morning. Its orbit and spin line up so weirdly that sunrise happens twice from some spots. Thanks for the giveaway!

The universe is approximately 13.8 billion years old. But scientists have estimated that the ages of certain stars to be older than the universe itself.

I think its becoming common knowledge that when you look at the sky, you are actually looking into the past. When you look at the sun, you are seeing it as it was about 8 minutes ago. This is because light takes time to travel through space and reach your eyes.

The farther away an object is, the farther back in time you are seeing it. Look at the Andromeda Galaxy, and you are seeing as it was 2.5 million years ago.

So, how could something be older than the universe itself? Does that mean that these stars have existed before the universe itself?

virtual particles are constantly being created out of nothing in space and all things matter energy, etc.... are all different forms of energy vibrating in different ways entangled with everything else in the universe

If you pass through the ring of a spinning black hole in a very specific manner, you don't die and instead end up in another universe.

First of all, thank you for the giveaway.

We've only explored about 0.001% of the ocean floor. This means we've actually explored more of the Moon than of our own oceans!

hmmm Our Moon is so far from the Earth that all the rest of the planets in the solar system can fit between the Earth and the Moon. And even being so far, we can see it perfectly.

And now, knowing how far it is, think that the Earth gravity attracts the Moon. And the gravity of the moon, that little ball we see in the sky, affects the tides, making the high tide and low tide.

(English is not my main, but i think everything can be understood ;P)

black holes aren't actually black, but colorless, we just perceive them as black since they suck everything up including light waves

1

u/LeBRUH_James_ 1h ago

Our galaxy is on collision course with the Andromeda galaxy, so even if we can survive on our planet and then possibly escape our sun turning into a supernova to live somewhere else, we'll still likely be doomed to go extinct in that unimaginably large collision event either from direct collision with another star/planet/asteroid/black hole, or perishing from some sort of radiation emitted by a pulsar for example. Thing is, it's gonna be so massive that we can't even simulate it on computers so we can't know exactly what will happen

1

u/ARSManiac1982 1h ago

I started to see that galaxies tend to rotate more to a side that evenly making the teory that we live inside a black hole possible...

For 17 years, astronomers at Australia’s Parkes Observatory were baffled by mysterious radio signals known as perytons, which were eventually identified as interference from a staff kitchen microwave oven. The signals occurred only when impatient researchers opened the microwave door prematurely while it was still running, causing a burst of radio waves at 2.4 GHz to escape.

This discovery, made in 2015 by PhD student Emily Petroff

I kinda find It kinda hilarious while being mind breaking imagin chasing something for 17 years and it turns out to be a nothing burger

Every Year the moon get a little bit further away from Earth (3.8 cm or 1.5 Inch a Year) so there will be a time the moon leaves Earth's Orbit and goes on a solo trip.

PS I think Pluto is still a planet xD and the last think nasa uploads everyday picture of the Cosmos just Google "nasa picture of the day"
