Happy 10th Cake Day, r/snowboardingnoobs!

r/snowboardingnoobs was founded on September 25th, 2016 by u/joejance as a spinoff from the r/snowboarding sub. The very first post to the sub hit 10 days later. Congrats on 10 years!

The mods have spent the Northern Hemisphere off-season considering tweaks to make the sub more user-friendly. We're starting out the sub's 11th season by adding a subreddit wiki. We don't intend this to be a complete guide, but a summary of some of the most frequent advice for easy reference, plus pointers to favorite resources around the internet. It'll also have some basic info on interacting with the sub. For starters, we've added "How Do I Become a Snowboarder?" (tl;dr - get a lesson) and a guide to shooting video clips for feedback, partly stolen from r/skiing_feedback.

We also plan to continue dabbling with post flairs and some of Reddit's automation tools to help snowboarding noobs (who are also in many cases Reddit noobs) ask good questions and provide the right info when posting. An example is the automated "Overhang" flair, which flags those posts but also detects when a user is about to submit an overhang question and gives some general guidance on overhang.

Thanks for doing your part to make the sub what it is. Let's continue making it a place where noobs can be noobs and maybe even get some great advice sometimes!

Any snowboarding advice or tips for a skier?

Just wanna start this off by saying pls don't hate on the fact I used to ski, it's fun and I liked it.

So last year I skiied for the first time and bought ski's with my own money and decided to ski with my snowboarder friends for a season. It was lots of fun and I actually picked up skiing surprisingly easily and am now what is probably considered a intermediate skier. Now I decided I wanted to try snowboarding so I bought a snowboard and bindings and am gonna do ski bus this year, this means I will be up on the mountains at least once a week.  I'm just looking for a any advice or tips on how to have the most fun and progress fast so I can ride more with my friends.

Shipping snow board !!!

I recently moved states and left my snowboard behind because I didn’t want to ruin our rental obviously without thinking about the hassle of shipping…. What’s the best way to ship my snowboard? I haven’t found a box nor a good shipping service . My snowboard is 154cm I’m trying to avoid removing my bindings and the burrito method just because someone else is shipping it for me , so any recommendations that won’t break my bank?

Board choice thoughts

Thinking of getting the capita doa as my park board planning to do a lot of jibbing and jumps. Any thoughts on the doa? Good park board? I've seen a lot of hate and a lot of love towards it. I've also heard it's a do it all type of board but also that it's more of a park board

Baggy Pants recs (in Japan)

Hey all, going on a trip to Japan soon and wanted to pick up new snowboarding pants. I like mid baggy fits, think 686 Dojo or beyond medals park pants.

Anyone have good quality brands/styles that are harder to get outside of Japan?

Hi! I’m a Product Design student currently developing an interactive balance training product as part of my Bachelor’s project.

This short survey explores how people train balance, what motivates them to exercise, and their thoughts about an interactive balance training concept.

It takes approximately 3–5 minutes to complete. Thank you for helping with my research!

How do you land after taking a side hit and traversing the piste

Do you land on an edge -> but then you slip out
Do you land flat and then take an edge immediately after -> probably catch an edge

Just bought this 2023 Arbor Formula on ebay, then later started seeing all the delamination issues people have had with them. Would it be dumb for me to even use this board at all? Have people had luck with getting these warrantied after buying them secondhand?

I finally pulled the trigger and upgraded my setup! The new setup is the first pic and the old setup is the second. Decided to get a Ride Agenda board that actually fits me with Bent Metal bindings that fits my boots. Can’t wait to see the difference on a hybrid board versus a random camber board from 2000 lol

New Snow Pant Recommendations: 686 vs. Burton

After having an insulated Columbia bib for a while, I'm ready to switch to a shell, as well as experiment with snow pants...

Debating between purchasing the "Men's Burton Reserve 2L Pants" and the "686 SMARTY® 3-in-1 Cargo Pant". What are people's opinions on both of them? Any personal experience with either of them?

Both are 20k waterproof and priced around the same amount. Thanks!

The two I'm deciding between in Khaki:

Burton: https://www.burton.com/en-us/products/mens-burton-reserve-2l-pants-302631?variant=48755344834817

686: https://www.686.com/collections/mens-snow-pants-bibs/products/686-mens-smarty-3-in-1-cargo-pant?variant=47692023693483

Union Atlas vs Falcor for resort riding and carving?

Hey everyone!
I’ve been riding rental gear (both board and boots) for the past 6 seasons, and this season I’m finally planning to buy my own setup.
Here’s what I’m currently considering:
● Board: Korua Transition Finder 160
● Bindings: Union Atlas or Union Falcor
● Boots: Ride Trident
I mainly ride groomed resort runs and enjoy riding fast, carving, and making the most of the entire mountain. I’m not really interested in park riding, jumps, or tricks.
I’d love to hear from people who have ridden both the Atlas and the Falcor, especially with a similar riding style.
A few questions:
● How do the Atlas and Falcor compare in terms of response, edge-to-edge transitions, carving performance, and stability at speed?
● Does the Falcor’s more surfy, freestyle-oriented feel offer any real advantages for my riding style, or would the Atlas be the better choice?
● Which binding would you personally pair with the Korua Transition Finder for aggressive resort riding and carving?
● How do they compare in terms of comfort and fatigue over a full day on the mountain?
I’m looking for a setup that feels comfortable and predictable but still lets me push hard, ride fast, and carve confidently.
Any real-world experience or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Stiffness on Fase Bindings

Hello everybody,

I've been snowboarding for 4 years now (1-2 Weeks a year) and my Rome board died last year because the service guy fucked it up while waxing. So I went to a store and got a new board (Bataleon Tornado x Beyond Medals). At the store I was introduced to a couple of different Step In Bindings. I don't want to limit myself to specific boots so the Burton were out of discussion from the beginning. They had different Systems in the store I could try with my own boots and the Fase system convinced me instantly. Now I'm looking to get some advice on how to decide for a specific model.

I'd say I mostly ride groomers but I'd like to get into small jumps, grinds and ground-tricks. So far I've used my Rome 390 Boss Bindings and I'm really happy, especially the straps just feel nice.

In the table below I've listed all the fase Models and their flex according to the brands websites.

How do they compare to the 390 Boss and which one would you recommend for me?
And are the flex ratings compareable inbetween brands?

    Flex
Bataleon Ghost 5
Blaster 6
Rome Katana 6-8
Volt 5-6
32 T32M 7
Basin 5
T32M XLT 8
Jones Nebula 6
Mercury 7
Zenith 9

Insulated vs shell???

Hey! I’m a brand new boarder about to do my first season in Revelstoke BC. I’m trying to get all my gear second hand / marketplace to keep costs low. I’ve been on the hunt for a shell as I’ve heard it’s more compatible with layering, changing temps etc., but the only things that are coming up seem to be insulated jackets!! A couple people told me they actually prefer insulated as the mountain gets freezing. It’s hard to decide what’s best for me cos I just don’t know how I’m gonna feel! The one I’m looking at is the North Face Freedom Insulated Jacket. Maybe I’m deeping it too much but it feels like a big decision lol! Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!!

Whats the one snow gear purchase you ended up using way more than expected?

When i think about buying snow gear i keep focusing on the obvious stuff like jacket, pants and boots. But for people who have been riding for a few seasons was there anything you bought that you initially thought was unnecessary but ended up using constantly? Could be something small like a neck warmer or better gloves or something you completely overlooked when putting your first setup together
