Discussion So sick of waiting for Doctors

Made a first-after-lunch appointment with my dermo. Appointment was for 1:45 so I arrived at 1:30. Wasn't called back until 2:00, so I asked the nurse when was the first patient after lunch seen - she said they never start until 2:00. She said the doctor will be right in - I waited and waited. I was getting angry because I could hear him talking outside the door to the nurses about Star Wars spaceships!! As I decided to leave and he walked in very cheerful, with no mention of my wait time. Told him I'd been waiting 45 minutes to see him and he made a joke of it. Obviously our time means nothing to these DOCTORS....what does he care if I leave his practice?? They're the biggest in town and do this on the daily to their patients. He'll probably bill $200 for the 10 seconds it took to burn one spot off. Guess we should all be used to this...tired of people who don't respect others

Bartender Jobs In Sheveport

Post image
44 Upvotes

I just moved out here from Longview, TX. I was wondering if anyone knows any bars that are hiring bartenders currently?

I worked at The Ranch, formally known as Electric Cowboy. If you've never been there it's one of longview night clubs and can get very busy during the weekends.

Its a "fast bartending" style. Which just means it was built to make mixed drinks fast.

Ive also bartended for a few events and as a fill in at The Reo (longview)

Ive applied at any ones that had online apps but I know bartenders are usually a quick grab in the moment situation!

I would appreciate any info!

Housing Rentals in Shreveport?

I’m looking to move out as soon as I can with my brother and our 3 cats but I’m having a difficult time finding a place. I’m open to trailer parks, apartments, anything with 800 or less in base rent. My brother works a construction job that has long periods of off time so neither of us are working right now but we have enough saved to pay several months of rent and will be looking for new work in Shreveport. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know

News Shouldn't Accountability Matter More Than Popularity?

Post image

It seems ever so relevant to say that blind allegiance is dangerous.
I find it interesting how many people are rushing to defend the former Shreveport Fire Department deputy chief without even knowing why she was terminated.
Have we reached a point where someone’s reputation, accomplishments, or status automatically earns them our unquestioning allegiance?
I went to work during COVID, just like countless other people. I also understand that when you’re being paid with public funds, there’s an expectation that the hours you report are the hours you actually worked. If I claimed to be working when I wasn’t, or submitted time records that didn’t accurately reflect my hours, I would fully expect to lose my job. It wouldn’t matter how many years I’d worked there or how many accomplishments I had under my belt.
I’m not claiming to know the circumstances surrounding her termination. She deserves a fair appeals process, just like anyone else.
But shouldn’t we know what actually happened before deciding whether she was treated unfairly?
You can respect someone’s accomplishments without automatically defending their conduct. Being a trailblazer doesn’t exempt anyone from the same standards of accountability expected of everyone else.
I won’t post screenshots of the Facebook comments here, but I encourage everyone to look at the comments under The Shreveport Urban Press post about her termination. I think you’ll understand exactly what I mean by blind support.
Why are so many people choosing sides before they even know what happened? The department obviously felt it had sufficient grounds to terminate her employment. That doesn’t automatically mean the decision was justified, but shouldn’t we at least understand what those grounds were before declaring that she was wronged?

Help Me! Places to recycle plastic grocery bags

My usual stores on the west side of town, of which there's exactly two, I have stopped placing the cardboard recycle bins in their lobbies for people to bring back and recycle plastic grocery bags.

Has anyone noticed any grocery store chains and their locations where you can still recycle these menaces to society LOL. And yes I also have cloth bags, but I have to now do a lot of pickup orders due to health issues. Tia :-)

Help Me! Any recommendations (Or advice) for affordable fencing?

Long post, sorry! So...We kinda need a little help.

My mom and I live together in a house we bought in the Highland area. We've been here for about 2 years, and the house is definitely a fixer-upper, but it's livable at best.

But as for our situation, we're a low-income family with 2 dogs and a cat, and one of our dogs keeps getting out of the backyard. I feel like we've tried everything in our power to patch and board-up holes and other areas we could find to keep our pup in, but regardless, after a few days or weeks, he always seems to miraculously find (Or maybe even just straight up MAKE) a new escape route.

He's a medium-sized terrier mix, and there's a lot of stray cats in our neighborhood (With the occasional Opossum), sadly, so I imagine his prey drive and general curiosity is what drives him to keep escaping despite seemingly knowing he gets in trouble each time.

This house did not come with a fence in the front yard, and my mom wanted to have one installed by Lowes, but couldn't afford the $2000 price for the installation.

The backyard DOES have a very old fence left by the previous owners, but it's rusted, flimsy, and completely covered with vines and vegetation that we have no idea what it is, we just know that touching it gives us itchy rashes (We're both the 'allergic to everything' kind of folks).

The supposed 'Neighborhood handyman' made loads of empty promises to us about clearing out all of that vegetation and having the backyard fence repaired for us by the time we were ready to move into the house back in late 2024, but then changed his mind at the last second, so we've still got a busted fence and a yard filled to the brim with thick, jungle-like vegetation that's like a playground for our dogs, but hinders our movement when they get out or get stuck. :/

Mom DID manage to hire someone to install a small gate for $500 just to close off the big open part of the fence while we worked to patch up the sides of the house to keep our dog in, but then it turned out the guy botched the job, and installed the wrong kind of gate so now the gate is kind of jagged and lop-sided. And since the work had already been done, the guy who did it wasn't interested in fixing any of it unless she paid him even more $$$.

Needless to say, that wasn't gonna happen since it took her forever to save up that amount in the first place. So, once putting in a complaint to the guy's boss, she was given a partial refund and the guy just fucked off back to Dallas while leaving us with a shoddily-built gate.

That was Spring of last year, I believe, and since then, we've just been trying our best to do what we could to patch up holes and keep the dog in ourselves. But it seems to be getting worse, as there's just more stray cats, rats, Opossums, and whatever other 'exciting wonders' around to entice a dog's curiosity into wanting to escape even more now.

So yeah...Anyone have any recommendations for affordable fence installation or repair?

Or at least affordable landscaping to clear out some of the horrible vegetation?

We've tried contacting Lowes, Home Depot, and a slew of other smaller fencing companies, but we never get any further than price consultation phone calls because the pricing always ends up in the $1000+ range. On top of consistently paying for (Overpriced) utility bills, buying groceries, and dealing with student loans, such prices are usually much too steep for us.

Again, we're pretty low income. My mom is in her 60's and works two jobs that don't pay much, and I have physical and learning disabilities that make finding and keeping the right kind of job for me feel next to impossible (Even job-searching with the help of Goodwill Industries wasn't helping us much, sadly).

I'm currently a freelance digital artist, mostly for illustrations of fantasy creature designs and the like, but art commission orders are very few and far in-between, and my now disabilities are starting to affect my commission work process as well, so I don't make enough money either.

Because of how bad our financial situation is, my mom is adamant in sticking to her budget of about $500 tops for a fence installation or repair (Yes, personally, I'm aware that's likely not a very realistic price expectation, but she's the one who's in charge, so whatever she says goes).

So that about sums up our predicament, and we're running low on options for solutions that won't completely empty our wallets in the long run. Any advice, recommendations, or suggestions?

If not for finding a good and affordable fencing company or handyman, then at least for how to keep our dog from getting out?

We're exhausted and a bit desperate at this point, so any advice is appreciated!

Quick Edit: My mistake, my mom just clarified that the shitty gate costed $1100, and it turned out she never even got a refund for it at all. Ugh.

Edit 2: Here's a few pics I took of our yard (Plus one of our dogs. He's not the one that's escaping, though).

Active/Outdoors Personal Trainers in Shreveport/Bossier

Hello, new to the area. I’m trying to get in the gym. Have no knowledge. Anyone know of anyone who is a personal trainer? Preferably somewhere where it’s not overly busy. Was looking at the YMCA downtown. Heard is kinda pricey but not too much foot traffic so that’s kinda a plus for a newbie. Idk if they have their own trainers. But was looking for ideas. Also it’s the closest gym to my house so it’s doable for me to not have an excuse not to go…ya know. Even if it’s like a group intro to gym class I would be fine with. I know gyms have classes but they don’t align with my work schedule.

Did Rick Rowe get replaced on KTBS?

Where has Rick Rowe been? I work 3AM-noonish now, so I don’t catch the morning news. It v looks like the lady who was doing the morning segment with Nate OSS now on in the evenings, and there’s an unfamiliar guy (to me) doing segments that are usually done by Rick Rowe. I’m attaching a pic of him from the Tasty Tuesday segment he did today.

Community Looking for a Louisiana Attorney Specializing in Legal Malpractice

I'm looking for recommendations for a Louisiana attorney who handles legal malpractice cases on behalf of clients, rather than defending attorneys.

I've had difficulty finding firms that take these types of cases and would appreciate recommendations from anyone who has experience with this area of law.

I have documentation available for a private consultation and am looking for an attorney willing to evaluate a potential claim.

I'm open to attorneys throughout Louisiana.

Active/Outdoors Are you willing to play catch with me?

Hey guys!

On a whim a few years ago, I bought myself a new baseball glove, and have not had anyone really to play catch with, so I still need some toss time put in to help form the pocket.

I’d like to get out and throw a few times a week, not really looking to join a rec softball league or anything, just trying to make some friends that wouldn’t mind playing catch with a 30 y/o Dad.

Please DM me if you’re interested, I live about five minutes away from AC Steere, Betty Virginia, and Columbia Park, but can meet up wherever in Shreveport

Check Voter Registration

Randomly checked my voter registration about 2 months ago & I was not on the website. I’ve been registered to vote at the same address for 20 years. Called Registrar of Voters who confirmed I am registered & eligible to vote but it made me very uncomfortable. I kept checking every few days then would call them again. It took about a month but I’m back on the website. I’m sure the poll workers get their info from some place other than the website but with all the uproar over voting, I didn’t want to take any chances.
