Update on our SafeSport reporting experience

About 6 weeks ago, I submitted an anonymous report to the U.S. Center for SafeSport concerning several incidents and long-standing, on-going patterns of misconduct at our former barn. Our allegations are non-sexual in nature. As a result, our report was referred to the USEF, which is now investigating.

As part of their initial review process, the USEF quickly identified potential (unrelated) rule violations by the two people we reported. Misrepresenting their role, many issues with entry cards, etc. These are not good people.

I just want to share that my experience with the USEF on this has been excellent thus far. I've been communicating with them through an encrypted email, so even though my report was anonymous I am able to respond to questions and provide the USEF with additional information.

Time will tell how it all plays out, but I have no regrets about reporting. We already experienced several acts of retaliation, which I also reported to USEF.

Let the people we reported keep digging their own hole.

I know circumstances are unique and variable, but I just thought I'd share our experience so far, if you are considering submitting a report yourself.

Best way to follow Showjumping competitions

Hi, I'm quite new into the sport and trying to find the best way to follow the sport.
All the news sites are a minefield of ads and adverts. Streaming is all paywalled. Any websites, apps you use to stay on top and follow what's going on?

Thanks

AZELHOF-BELGIUM QUESTION

Hi fellow showjumpers in Belgium,

Can you help out a foreigner rider to understand how can you rent a stable for Azelhof simple regional competition? It does not seem to appear as an option on Equibel and they simply do not reply to the emails... Does it mean you cannot rent a box?

Huge thanks!

Looking for feedback on a hunter/jumper clothing brand concept (School Project)

Hi everyone, I am a hunter/jumper based in Canada! I’m working on a school project where I have to develop and test a business idea, and I decided to do a equestrian brand for riders and their horses.

The brand would have two disciplines (I only did these two because its what I am familiar with and I'm really sorry if anyone feels excluded):

Hunters: A more traditional look with colours navy, dark green, brown, black, and beige as the main colours.

Jumpers: See the seasonal colours below!!!

Spring Summer Fall Winter
Pastel pink, pastel purple, pastel blue Teal, bright pink, electric blue Burnt orange, light beige Light blue, powder blue, white, lilac

[WHY CAN'T I UNBOLD SPRING]

My Ideas [DESIGNS BELOW THE TEXT - sorry for the bad penmanship]:

  • Competition breeches/jodhpurs (I really hate how my white breeches for classic days on my jumper get dirty really easily and are see through when it rains so I think this one is super important)
  • Traditional hunter jackets and shadbellies
  • Jumper competition jackets
  • Competition sweaters designed to look like competition shirts for warmth under a show jacket (I love this idea because even in the summer its 7c in the morning and then 27 in the afternoon so it's perfect for a day that you show in the morning and September/Octoberish shows)
  • Flared riding jeans that look like regular jeans but are designed for riding (so you can go out right after and not have to change)
  • Seasonal summer/winter riding clothing
  • Hunter and jumper saddle pads (There will be hunter show pads - the white fuzzy ones - and hunter practice pads - same shape as jumper ones, just in muter colours with a customizable section if you would like to place your barn logo on it - and for the jumper ones they will be in colours matching the collection)
  • Jumper bonnets
  • Polo wraps and boots
  • Waterproof, insulated, stretchy jumping sheets (I really like this idea because at my barn we use the wool ones and I find that they slip around a lot)
  • Matching horse + rider collections (I have a show jacket that happens to match my saddle pad for my jumper and I think its really cute, especially for younger 'puddle jumpers' (sorry we don't use puddle jumpers at where I show but like the tiny height jumpers))
  • Limited-edition Christmas and Halloween collections (For the Christmas collection it will be everything in our regular jumper collection in red with a white and green trim and the Halloween collection will offer matching Halloween costumes - I know a lot of shows offer costume classes so if you are super busy this is a easy way to get a good costume - including a knight/royalty and dragon, car and driver [ a lot of the big riders do this so I thought it would be super cute], and a angel and demon) (SORRY - I couldnt draw these - on a time crunch)

One of the main problems I'm trying to solve is that equestrian clothing can be very expensive (please let me know what prices you think would be appropriate), and riders also have to deal with a lot of different weather conditions. I’m also interested in whether riders would actually like clothing that is functional for riding but can also be everyday wear (so you get a two in one!!!).

I’ve linked my current designs below, along with a short Google Form where you can give feedback.

Thank you so much and sorry for the super long post and any spelling mistakes!!!!!

hi - interested in seeing if there even are any FEI diy amateur riders in the USA.

I'm currently in a full service program showing 1m40 and really toying with idea of bringing my horses home and showing independently (me, 3 horses, one freelance groom) I want to aim for my first FEI classes next year.

How do you know if someone is talented?

Is seems to me like talent is very subjective, “picking thing up quickly” is not a good enough explanation to me. Is there any way to objectively quantify talent? Everyone says you need a combination of talent and hard work to be a professional rider (at least for Showjumping) bout nobody every explains what they think that mysterious talent is. I guess the point of the question is to find a metric one could measure themselves against without the subjectivity of what they believe about themselves (because those beliefs may not be true, for example).

Fundraising for the USF equestrian team

Hey all, I'm currently a senior at the University of South Florida. Our equestrian team is trying to collect funding to be able to compete this year without issue. This is the link GoFundMe

https://gofund.me/432db8568

I am not a part of the team but do have ties, if you have any questions or concerns, the woman running the gofund.me, Kjirste Harris, is the vice president of the club and can help answer anything.

Anything is appreciated, all money goes directly to the teams care of horses and the ability to compete.

Edit: link fix

Online jump trainers?

I really love Amelia Newcomb for online dressage training. Her courses are great. The material is great. i'm learning a lot. I wonder if anyone knows of someone who trains jumping in a similar way?

Amelia's not like "get on and ride a test" - she has lots of foundational exercises and videos that break each into safe and doable experiences. Jumping for me has been a little bit more like "get on and do it" even when working with a live trainer. I really want to break it down and understand the component pieces.

Thanks for any recommendations!

Stabilizing lower legs

Hey everyone! Recently I’ve been preparing to start showing my horse and Ive noticed that my lower leg is very unstable at times, I have no idea how to fix this and am looking for some tips and tricks to stabilize my legs. Ive tried standard tricks and worked on building muscle but I haven’t seen much of a difference. Any advice is welcome!

Careers to afford this sport?

As we all know riding horses is one of the most expensive sports out there. I’m 18f and planning to go to college. There’s nothing I want more in life than to progress in horse riding again. I took a break and was unable to go back due to money. It’s honestly devastating. So I’m genuinely curious, equestrians who didn’t grow up with rich parents how are you affording this lifestyle? I want to own horses of my own eventually and not have to worry about money too much. I’ve thought about CRNA, psychiatric nurse practitioner, RN, Ultrasound tech, psychologist, etc. I’d prefer not to go to school for way too long because I don’t want to miss out on my youth🥹
I feel like if I went to school for 8+ years I’d eventually be too old to progress like I’ve always dreamed. I could be wrong and my parents have told me I am but I can’t help but feel that way. It’s probably because horse riding is very physically demanding and generally dangerous. And the fact that a big chunk of equestrians were riding horses before they could walk. Anyways, some advice would be great! What’s yalls career? How much do you make a year? What’s your life look like? Do you live in LCOL area?

Is no stables something I should worry about?

So, I’ve been riding for 3 years or so in the same school, and the horses do not have stables. after lessons, the horses get turnout, and in the same place they get turnout they eat and sleep, it’s a really big grass field with no trees and not really any shadow, should i be concerned?

edit: i just found out 3 stables were built (lit just 3 stalls), i have no pics of them, might add them when i get there tomorrow

YardForge

Hi,

I'm launching a new equine site, it features a free course designer that will help you plan anything from FEI Courses to just a few cross poles to help you train.

It has a lot more features but have a look around and it's all free at the moment as I'm just getting it all together. I'm a solo designer, but unlike some of these big companies if you have suggestions i'm implementing them within a day or so.

The site is https://www.yardforge.co.uk please do remember though it's only 3 weeks old so expect bugs, just let me know as and when you find them or suggestions.

Thank you so much!!

Eye for distances?

I recently went to a show with my horse, had a few great rounds, but then had a few bad ones.( ran into a jump.. 😅) My horse, despite my mistakes, for the most part, was an absolute saint. However, after that bad round I could literally not see any distance or kept pulling to nothing. Skip to a month later, my eye is still off until one day it finally clicks back— like it never left. Has this happened to anyone else or can anyone explain this??
