What this does

This shortcut makes you choose an app to customize then it creates a shortcut and waits for you to add it to your library so that it can put it on your homescreen.

Shortcut Configuration Settings

WT stands for wait time WT is the amount of time you have before the shortcut checks your library and adds your customized app onto your homescreen.

CL stands for custom label you can modify the boolean to true if you want labeled apps.

Why did I make this?

The only reason I made this shortcut was to one-up an app icon making shortcut that got paywalled after it became popular. But I will update the shortcut

I made a a shortcut that opens a particular app when I start a focus mode and opens it again when I end the focus mode. This works great if my phone is unlocked, but if it is locked, I get prompted with "tap to run focus mode" with continue or quit options. Is there not a way for it to run Face ID and open the app if it sees me without a prompt?

Hi there!

Wanting to get a smart bulb that I can set up a shortcut/automation for when I arrive home (or within a radius of home) for the bulb to turn on. I tried to do something similar with a fan or led strip lights but they are all sort of connected through Google home app. None of them appeared on the shortcut app. So couldn’t figure out how to do it. Does it need to be a wifi bulb?

Does anyone have this and use it for this purpose? Or any recommendations for one?
I like the idea of being able to control different colours and dimmable as well but ideally just want to make sure it works with a shortcut that runs immediately and doesn’t require any clicking of a button/confirmation

I'm customizing my iPhone, to change the icons, using the shortcuts, but every time I click on them this banner appears, is it possible to deactivate this?

Hi!

I’m a student and I read a lot of my readings on my iPad with a keyboard, I’m wondering if there’s a way to highlight selected text quickly with a shortcut, rather than have to touch the screen to do so.

I’ve looked around online to no avail, and I’m not shortcut savvy enough to be able to see a way to do it myself.

I was fed up not doing things on time, going to bed late, getting out of bed late. Although I was always keen to plan ahead, thinking it’s easy to act, I always ended up not doing what I planned. That’s why I decided to push things a little bit and add real constraints. I got inspired by an old Reddit thread, and I admit there are some escape hatches, but it’s fine for now. If I trust the system, and remind why I’m doing this, I’ll (normally) act.

My organisation relies on several items :

• a BED alarm
• a HEY alarm
• a Lock all screens shortcut (iPhone, iPad, Macbook via SSH if reachable). basically a loop that lock the device every X second X times. It forces me to stop using my devices.
• a Chaos shortcut. a series of events I don’t want to happen : all my lights at full power, a loop with an alarm every 2 minutes, a song I hate on my HomePod. Could be even worse.
• NFC cards in my bathroom (Morning and Evening)
• Actions and DataJar app (available on the App Store)

EVENING : Stop what I do and prepare to go to bed

1. Every Sunday, an automation enables my BED alarm.
2. When the alarm stops, it launches a “Evening Bathroom Checker” shortcut to :
   • launch “Lock all devices” shortcut
   • wait 90 seconds (some time to leave the sofa)
   • check if the variable GOING_TO_BED is 1 in DataJar. if no, launch the Chaos shortcut. if yes, set back GOING_TO_BED to 0
3. Tapping my Evening card launches a “Going to bed” shortcut to :
   • set global variables SLEEP and GOING_TO_BED to 1 (using Actions app)
   • set a scene in my bathroom (dimmed warm light)
   • enable Sleep Focus
4. If I open Safari or any other distracting app I tend to open once in bed, a “Web App Checker” shortcut launches and check SLEEP value. If 1, lock 5 minutes.
5. Once in bed, I launch a Sleep shortcut that turn off all my lights and sockets, and disables cellular data, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

MORNING : Wake up and leave bed, then enable things

1. When my Sleep alarm stops in the morning, it sets my lights (bedroom + bathroom) to a very dimmed blue.
2. When my HEY alarm stops, it launches a “Morning Bathroom Checker” shortcut to :
   • wait 90 seconds (some time to get up)
   • check if the global variable WAKE_UP is 1. if no, launch the Chaos shortcut. if yes, set back WAKE_UP to 0
3. Tapping my Morning card launches a “Wake up” shortcut to :
   • set SLEEP to 0
   • set WAKE_UP to 1
   • enable cellular data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
   • turn off Sleep Focus
   • turn off my bedroom light
   • enable my BED alarm for the evening. The notification reminds me to adjust it, if I know that I have things planned that evening, for instance

DAY
If I open social apps like Facebook, Instagram, a shortcut launches and check if time is within “allowed” time ranges (using Actions app). If no, run the “Lock 5 minutes” shortcut (a simple locking loop)
I also have a “Day” card in my living room, linked to an alarm with the same logic (and locking Mac only). It forces me to take regular breaks in the day. It’s so easy to get lost when you’re following the wrong track when working on a task.

It may seems overcomplicated, but like I said, I have tried lots of things before that didn’t work. I’d like to know your own tips and I’d be more than happy to explain the process to anyone interested, or share shortcuts.

As many are involved and custom, I chose not to share them, but I may do if against the community rules. Be kind, it’s my first Reddit post ever !

I normally keep Call Screening set to “Ask Reason for Calling,” but occasionally switch it to “Never” when I'm expecting a callback and want the call to come straight through.

Unfortunately, changing this setting requires several taps, so I'm trying to create a Shortcut to make switching between the two easier.

I've successfully created Shortcuts for “Never” and “Silence,” but can't figure out how to set one for “Ask Reason for Calling.”

Has anyone managed to get this working?

I love to take cute photos of my long-distance girlfriend on FaceTime, but the photo button built in is so clunky. I have never used shortcuts but is there a way to make clicking the camera control button or the action button take a FaceTime photo (or really any other way than the built-in button)?

I tried a couple of wordings of my request in the Shortcuts app to no avail, but I don’t know if it’s user error. I know I could just take a screenshot but I don’t want my much less pretty face in it and I want it to be live. I also like how FaceTime photos notify her that I took a photo.

I need an app specific volume shortcut.
I know what I want to do, but not sure if it’s possible.
I’m somewhat okay with creating shortcuts but this one is a bit complicated.

I want to create a shortcut that turns down Facebook reels volume. I want to create an icon so that when Facebook is opened, it turns down (to like 10%) the app volume. Then either times out after 30 minutes or when the app is closed.

To complicate things I’m trying to make it husband proof (he’s a bit technologically challenged) so I’m thinking I can include the shortcut steps to open Facebook, turn down the volume, and have it auto reset after done or closing out the app.

He is constantly turning the volume to almost off and then forgets it is down and misses texts and calls.

I’m trying to make it automated so he doesn’t have to remember to turn it back up.

Possible??? I would be willing to send funds to get it to come out right. 🙂

Apologies for the multiple fixes I've had to push out. I just released v2.10 to cover the issue that many users were facing with the shortcut not being able to download any media. I have also added the option back in for downloading full story from a user's profile.

Hi everyone! I’m trying to make a shortcut that plays music from Spotify (because I don’t pay for Apple Music) when I snooze or turn off my alarm. But it asks for permission to open Spotify every time it runs, which defeats the purpose. My attempt is attached. There’s no option under “Open Spotify” to turn on/off Automation. If you have any advice on how to change it to stop that request to have it run properly, I’d appreciate it. Thanks!!

I have asked for help creating this shortcut before and it worked great until it didn’t. The shortcut logges my clock in and out in a text file just fine.

Then a Ai summary shortcut was suppose to look at all the data and summaries the total days worked, gross hours, net hours (minus fixed break) and overtime hours (Monday - Thursday everything over 7.5 hours and Friday anything over 7 hours)

However, it seems to work only with a few clock in and clock out. If there’s to much data it won’t complete the shortcut.

I have been trying to find another solution but with out luck. I was thinking maybe it’s possible to use google sheets and use that to calculate, but not sure how to automatically switch when a new month starts

My last resort hoping someone can help me create this shortcut.

Is it feasible to create a shortcut that would open the Facebook app then navigate to the Friends tab and then the All page?

I was getting the (The file "settings.json" couldn't be opened.) error before so I deleted the shortcut and file from “Files” and now I’m getting the following error

If I'm not mistaken, used to be able to disable an automation in Shortcuts. Now in iOS 27 I don't see the option given that they combine Shortcuts and automations into one category (which I think was a very dumb idea).
I didn't see the answer in Apples new guide for shortcuts.
Did they just remove the option to disable an automation that you made? I don't want to spend a bunch of time creating an automation and then have to delete it anytime I don't want it to run.

Ask Siri AI to create an automation that runs when I join my gym WiFi but it doesn’t work and throws up an error “This action could not be run with the current user interface.” What’s the point of Siri making an automation it should know can’t run!?

So i posted this summary of a shortcut i made when commenting on an earlier post. A few people have asked for it so thought I’d put it here.

Notes-

1. This is a skeleton version (necessary as we have different playlists, folders, notes/reminder categories, etc), so you will need to go through the various modules and customize them as you see fit (playlists, podcasts, notes/files and folders, directions home, etc) I’ve left examples where possible, to help with the customization.
2. i created this as a modular system, so youll need all the shortcuts linked in order for it to work properly.
3. i have not yet updated to iOS 27 and have heard multiple issues with shortcuts, no idea what it might break in this so YMMV.

Great that it works from the lock screen and it also generally prevents the need to switch apps for saving links or other tangents, or go to the homescreen at all.

I looked around with the search function and have not been able to find a shortcut that simply toggles "hey siri" on/off. The use case is that when I am at my desk I want to be able to hands free my phone to play music or respond to messages or emails. Whenever I try to create one myself it keeps telling me a shortcut can change settings. Ideas?

Just want a simple shortcut as above. I used Siri but it’s not working and I can’t figure out why. Does any one know what the problem could be?

I would like, if focus x or y or z is active, the device does not output anything except the message. So it’s quiet.

And if the focus is not activated accordingly, of course the speech output is executed next to the message
