Why are there so many electric bikes in Shenzhen ?

Having lived in Shenzhen for so many years, my biggest headache is why there are always so many electric bikes in Shenzhen. It feels like no matter where you go, there are electric bikes everywhere.

There are two main reasons I think First, we all enjoy the rapid delivery services, food and grocery deliveries in under one hour or even thirty minutes. I sometimes feel bad for some of those delivery drivers, they really need to hustle to make money, and a some are overqualified for the job. Second, there are still a lot of people that cant afford a car, or a place to park it. They have to rely on a inexpensive electric bike to get their kids to school, go to work, or do the various tasks needed for ordinary life. I just wish they could slow down a little bit. Delivery drivers of course are under tremendous time pressure. I have seen some dedicated bike lanes being put up, but it seems that they haven't been fully utilized by the bikes. Hopefully it will get better over time.

Because ebikes are awesome? Not everyone lives within 500m of a subway station.

I was in Shenzhen and these e-bikes annoyed me a lot and I couldn’t imagine how could Shenzhen passengers bear them everyday. I hate these e-bikes and left China for wanting a peaceful walk on roadside.

Shenzhen is easily one of the worst cities in China for them with very few bike lanes and riding on the road strictly banned.
