User Flair now active
Our Sub's User Flair is now active. Have fun! How to choose what's right for YOU..
Enthusiastic Amateur....Basically a "newbie" who enjoys the hobby!
Avid Hunter...You're out there searching whenever you get the chance!
Collector...You just enjoy adding new teeth whether finding them, buying them or trading for them or in other ways!
Professor... You know your stuff and constantly and correctly help others with their questions. Don't be modest. If this applies to you use it. It identifies you to others and gives them confidence in your answers!
Junior Professor... You know a lot about the subject and can answer questions with a reasonably high degree of certainty, but you feel you still have a little ways to go. You're in good company
Dive Master... No need to hold an actual master certificate, it just means your preferred way of collecting means being under water!
Beach Comber...Because for you, finding salty sand teeth is the life! (Or maybe because it's your primary option)
Creek Crawler...For you nothing beats dodging snakes, gators and skeeters in search of the perfect tooth!
Fossil Fanatic... Teeth are great, but you're just as happy with any and all other prehistoric prizes!
All About The Megs... all shark teeth are neat, but hey..a Meg?? Come on now!!

What am I looking at exactly?
I’ve lived in florida my entire 32 years, been finding shark teeth most of that and I’ve never seen one quite like this? The pictures dont really do the shape much justice.

Today’s finds Aquia Paleocene
Beautiful weather today. The water was flat calm. The last picture is what I think is a bird bone. This is very rare from the Paleocene and only my third. The others are more complete. And another Phyllodus plate.

My most recent finds
This was a compilation that started last week and went up until today. I was thinking I’d find much more because it had been so stormy in my area last week but oh well!

Discussion What are niche bucket list shark teeth that you guys find interesting?
I am making a list of interesting shark teeth so I can plan out my vacations for the next year, I would love to see the species that you all find intriguing, where they come from, what they may look like, and any other interesting facts yall may have, the stranger the better! Small teeth, specimens from non-shark fish found in similar layers as sharks, and other chondrichthyans like Hybodus and eugeneodonts are equally appreciated as any shark entries.

Recent Finds South Carolina haul
We spent the weekend in Summerville South Carolina at Palmetto Fossil Excursions MegFest. Despite the finicky weather we persisted and managed to come home with a nice haul! Met some more awesome people as well. Always a great time meeting folks who also have the fossil bug.
Their material was really really great. We were anticipating spending more time going through the red clay for the chance to find some great whites, but the angustidens we were pulling from the darker material were too good to walk away from.
*2 of the megs were from the blind bucket grab and one was a gift. Unfortunately we didn’t find those ourselves lol
We’ve got a huge overseas fossil hunting trip we’re taking in March, so not sure if we’ll make it to their next MegFest in May… but we’ll see!

Shark tooth fragment?
Hi guys! Im here looking for an opinion. I went to Zeeland, south netherlands to look for shark teeth. Have never done that before and it was peetty unsuccesfull haha, but a very cool experience. I did find something tho, and i dont know if it is a fragment of a fossil, so i thought id ask u guys. It was around 15mm, and the ridge line u can see went on the front side fron the very top to the very bottom. You could see enamel (if thats what it is lol) removed, which makes me suspect it even further. The edges were blade like, and not rounded off, however back side completly smooth. What do you guys think?

Shark Tooth Showcase Added some teeth to the collection last week
Was on a work trip last week and my booth neighbor wholesales shark teeth and shark tooth related goods. Over the years I’ve gotten to know them and bought the upper left tooth in pic two, two years ago from him, and then the three in the first pic this last week. Pretty stoked on the additions. Should all be meg, but I’m wondering if the top left in pic two is actually great white?

ID Request Parotodus or Alopias/Trigonotodus?
Last post today hopefully. Found these near Charleston in various spots. What are they? I’m thinking Parotodus “oligocenus”, but I’m unsure.

Discussion Mod request - influx of bots reposting content
I have never been a mod and don't know what tools are at your disposal but there has been a sudden influx of bots reposting old (sometimes not-so-old) content, not even bothering to change the titles. I downvote and report every one I see but it is just incessant lately. Seems like every other post now is a bot repost. Of all the subs out there I don't know why a niche hobby sub like this is targeted.
Not sure what can be done but is this something that mods can take action on? Maybe implement a minimum account age or "reputation" within this sub for post submissions to be approved? Are there fillters that automatically detect reposts?
