Question Regional Food Dishes Invented In Saskatchewan Restaurants?
I'm looking to find every restaurant in Saskatchewan that invented a regional food dish. So far I only know of Regina Style Pizza- invented at Houston Pizza. I haven't yet been able to find the specific inventor restaurant of the Frajolaki Sandwich. Does anyone know who specifically invented the Frajolaki, or any other specific food dish inventor restaurants in Saskatchewan?

The story I heard from a cook that was there in the early 80s, it was The Station Place in Saskatoon. The owners had made a translation mistake in ordering small dinner buns and had ordered (restaurant size quantity) small sub buns instead and invented the frajolaki (derived from the Greek term for small bun) to use up the buns.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Frajolaki on menus at other Greek owned restaurants before Station Place was built though I can't be 100% certain. I didn't try it until a few years after station place opened. I was pretty young in '85 and "Greek" food was a little too exotic to try for anyone in my family growing up.

I've been researching Frajolaki (and it's various spellings) for many years now. Here's the results of all my efforts: https://thecutleryreview.com/frajolaki-the-saskatchewan-greek-sandwich/
Anyone has more info to add? I'd welcome it and will update the page.

Copper Kettle introduced spinach feta pizza decades ago.

Thanks! That’s surprising to learn, I just figured that combo would have been a common thing for as long as pizza existed, but it’s cool that its origins can actually be pinpointed to a specific place.

They have a media wall of articles about it - read it when picking up food.

Da Lat by Night was one of the pioneers in the Regina spring roll. I knew the owners and Kevin joked that the first time he put traditional spring rolls he worried he wouldn’t feed the ‘big farmers’ who were in his restaurant. Him and his sister then started making them egg roll sized.
I’ve traveled extensively across North America and have never had that specific type of spring roll. Lang’s and Viet-Thai did variations on that recipe. So weird and unique to Regina.

And according to Google, the Hill Avenue location in Regina was the first one.

That’s actually called ‘Saskatchewan Style”!

The hell it is. It's Regina style, and the rest of the province is trying to appropriate it. It was invented right here in Regina at the Hill Avenue Houston Pizza, and I will die on this hill.

College Avenue Pizza in Saskatoon was doing the same style at the same time! Yes they were all Greek owned so Greek style could be appropriate, but this was done all across the province in Greek owned pizzerias and was only ever called Regina Style in Regina.

Aren’t dry ribs, like Mr Ribs boneless style, uniquely Saskatchewan?
