Mending Sashiko repairs

Mended my dog bed cover (thrifted brown cribsheet) with 3 different patterns. I'd never attempted the seed stitch before, I don't like it in red but my other colors were hiding from me, so red it was. I can see my basting stitches are still left behind on my crosses & my circle design 😂. I used some old jeans for the patches. Anyway, far from perfect but still happy with it. So much easier to shake the cover & wash it rather than having to take apart the dog bed so much.

Sashiko on a Levi’s Trucker | STIA CUSTOM

Hi everyone! I’d like to share one of my latest Sashiko projects.

I’ve used this monogram-style pattern before on a pair of pants, but this time I found a dark Levi’s Trucker jacket, and the contrast of white stitches on it looks good.

I decided not to fill the whole surface. I left the yoke untouched, so the empty space is part of the design too.

Everything is stitched by hand, as always.

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Non Mending A cute lil hand-sewn needlebook

Recently finished this needlebook for a birthday present. I used linen and perle cotton (as I couldn't find fine enough sashiko thread in the colour that I wanted). The pattern is from 'The New Sashiko', using different sashiko patterns rather than fabric patchwork.

Linen is so lovely to work with, I'm looking forward to trying it with sashiko thread next time!

Sashiko on a soccer jersey?

I had an idea for doing some sashiko on one of my soccer jersey’s and would love some advice on how best to go about it!

The jersey is a stretchy material, (stretchy in both directions) and I would like to do it on the shoulder area. What would work best for making sure deformation and puckering is at a minimum? I am very new to sashiko so even if you have any basic tips for working with this material or in this area of a shirt, please let me know!

Right now I am thinking that I will use thinner sashiko thread, and a thinner sashiko needle as well to make the holes a little smaller.

Request/Q&A Silk sashiko thread

I recently came across some silk sashiko thread. I'm wondering if any of you have any idea how this is usually used. Is it just for fancy clothing or does it have a specific purpose?

Newbie pocket repair

Hey there,
Here we go, with my first attempt of repairing a shirt with some sashiko stitches.
First of all I felt into the problem that the pen I used wasn’t visible on the dark fabric.
Secondly I had the feeling that my needle was to short.
But any ways this is my first strap into a new hobby!
Thanks for all the knowledge I have quietly picked up.

Mending newbie knee repair

my husband’s Levi’s have had a blown-out knee for months- maybe over a year. He said he’d never wear them again, but I think I convinced him 😊 I finally took the plunge into an actual project, from start to finish in 6 hours in one afternoon. He told me which thread color to use and which pattern. Critique is welcome, I’m wanting to learn and try new patterns!

Request/Q&A Sashiko/boro jacket

I saw this Sashiko patchwork jacket a few month ago and my audacious *ss said : ‘I can do it too’

So here I am, collecting scraps of different fabric, hand stitching them together; I’m just starting my 3rd 1mX1m panel of patchwork and I don’t know what to do next…

The jacket I saw didn’t seem to have any stitch coming from a machine, it has a lining - most surely jersey - that I need to stitch onto my patchworks.
But I’m wondering how to do that
Should I cut my pattern on the jersey lining and on the patchwork separately then stitch them together?
OR stitch everything together FIRST then cut my pattern?

Thank you so much in advance for your answers 🙌🏼

Sashiko on my favorite jeans

A few pictures of my favourite jeans:

  • the cuffs would always get undone after washing, so I attached them
  • there was also a hole in my jeans: I put a denim patch behind it and stitched the persimmon flower around, making the hole the center of the pattern
  • also the belt loop ripped of, so put another denim patch behind it and attached it in Sashiko stile. Afterwards, I covered it with a piece of cloth (I know, this part is actually visible mending; I still included it, because its the same jeans)
  • there's also a picture of the thimble I made myself

I copied the pattern measurements from the pouch in pic 2. I carry this pouch around with me everywhere. Embroidered sashiko on brown linen, and used hand dyed cotton and a handmade ceramic button I got from a fiber festival recently

How to not loose your thimble

Hello people, one of the things that keeps me from stitching the most at the moment is not finding my thimble. I don't have a regular stitching place, so it wanders around a lot but it is so small that it keeps getting lost.

Is that a problem other people know as well and do any of you have any hacks/tricks 😅

I made a grid on some scrap linen (RIP Joann Fabrics) I had and used it to practice stitching evenly. Cups purchased from a supplier on Amazon, thread and needles are Olympus brand.

Mending Still learning

Post image

Im still learning how to do the cool geometrical stuff but i found something that i love the look of and just feels super fun.

My partner is in blue collar work so he has his work pants that wear constantly. He tends to kneel on his right knee when doing certain tasks and has blown through them and it sucks how expensive good work pants are. Ive been doing mending on his pants for 2 years now sometimes by hand and sometimes on the sewing machine.

Idk how you guys are able to do such cool designs. I struggle so hard and I treat it more like embroidery than actual sashiko. I have to use a hoop otherwise it feels wonky and there’s always a crease somewhere in my work

I detached the bottom of the coin pocket to do the stitching with a patch, then reattached it with the sewing machine. Before and after shown.

This is my first attempt at sashiko and I was pretty happy with it until I tried them on and it looks a bit like I have ants all over my arse? What do you guys think? Should I redo in a different colour?

So pleased with how this turned out. I learnt loads including that proper sashiko needles are far better than milliners needles, and callouses on my fingers take about a week to stop hurting!

I’ve already bought another cheap and broken jacket to hone my skills, but any feedback on this project is appreciated. I know it’s not perfect, but it’s a start and I love wearing it.
