In light of all the bot spam we're introducing a new posting rule
Hi everyone! I know most of you have probably noticed the absolutely unrelenting bot posts lately. Myself and the other mods have been trying our best to remove those posts and ban the bot users, thanks to all your reports we have been doing an okay job of it until recently. The last few months these types of posts have been absolutely obnoxious, not just in our community but in many others, and we are having a hard time keeping up because we aren't bots but just a bunch of Samoyed lovers with families and other commitments :)
After talking to some regulars here and the other active moderator we have decided to try out implementing a minimum karma to post certain types of posts. Text posts will not be affected as we certainly always welcome discussion and questions in this community! We welcome your feedback and please continue reporting any suspicious posts and comments you see.
Thank you,
r/samoyeds Mod team

Puppy needs a home.
Hey everyone, I just want to be clear that this isn't my dog. My wife found her while on the humane society website and I just wanted to get the word out to this wonderful community.
Hopefully a responsible owner needs another tiny polar bear in their life 🐻❄️
Thanks everyone, have a great day.

Looking for a Dog Trainer (South Bay Area, Cali) Experienced with Reactive Samoyeds
Hi everyone!
I have an almost 2-year-old Samoyed who's very sweet but also stubborn and reactive, especially during walks and car rides. He struggles with excessive barking, jumping, leash pulling, and getting overly excited around triggers.
I'm looking for a trainer experienced with Samoyeds or similar breeds, particularly in managing reactivity, impulse control, and overstimulation.
I'd prefer someone who uses positive reinforcement and behavior modification techniques, rather than punishment-based methods, and focuses on long-term improvement.
I'm looking for private, one-on-one sessions, either at our home or at the trainer's facility. We're based around the Sunnyvale/Mountain View/Cupertino area, but willing to travel a reasonable distance.
Has anyone worked with a trainer who helped improve these behaviors in their Samoyed? I'd really appreciate recommendations based on personal experience!
Thanks in advance!

Insurance worth it ?
My Sammy is approaching 14 weeks
Debating on insurance
Curious to hear if it's worth it or not and which seems to be some good options
I had insurance for one of my dogs a long time ago and I thought it was a waste. Curious if things have improved

I’ve never owned a dog before and even after I brush her her necks still red brown and dirty also how often should I bathe her I heard bathing her too much can damage her coat and if I can’t bathe her how do I get dirt/mud of her

What could my dog be allergic to?
We took her to the vet. They said it’s allergies but cannot figure out what it’s from. We gave her two weeks of allergy med and she responded her. But couple weeks later. The symptoms came back. Her eyelids get brownish red with discharge. Also, she scabs around her snout. What is the best way to figure out what she is allergic to?

Why does my dog’s poop smell THIS bad?
I’ve had dogs throughout my life, but I’ve never experienced anything like this with Yuki 😂.
His poop smells insanely bad. And I don’t mean “normal dog poop smells bad” — I mean it’s on another level. If he poops inside the house, you can literally be on the second floor in another room and the smell will somehow find you within a couple of minutes. 💀
With my other dogs, they could occasionally poop inside and I wouldn’t even realize it at first because the smell wasn’t that strong. I’d usually discover it because I saw the poop.
With Yuki, there is absolutely no mystery. The smell basically announces: “YUKI HAS POOPED.” 😂
I’ve already changed his kibble several times, but it hasn’t really made a difference.
He’s otherwise acting completely normal, so I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this with their dog. Is extremely foul-smelling poop sometimes related to diet, digestion, parasites, or something else?
Any advice or things I should look into would be appreciated!

5 months with floppy ears
I wanted to share my sweet sleepy smiley boy with his floppy ears. They perk up occasionally but seem nowhere close to staying popped up. I’m not so worried that I feel inclined to tie or tape them, especially since I doubt he will leave his ears alone long enough to do so 😅 but since this seems to vary drastically amongst sammies, when did your pups ears pop up?

She woke up, chose pink, and owned the morning
The sunlight caught her fur, and she sat there grinning like she paid for the photoshoot.

Tips for picky eater?
I think I’m making some rookie mistakes with my beloved Dog food-wise. I would love any advice on how to get my little one to enjoy and ideally not because she’s soo hungry and there’s no other option :-/ which is what I’ve been trying to do so as to not “spoil” her.
If it’s at all useful information:
We have tried:
Costco chicken and rice until 11 weeks then because I couldn’t get to Costco consistently
Hills science diet for puppy
hills science diet for large breed puppy (both chicken and rice)
HSD canned formula…both as a topper and on its own -_-
She’s full on rejected kibble and became very bitey on walks so for safety’s sake with my wonderful dog walker on days I’m in office I caved and got her Hill’s science diet loaf form
She enjoyed that for a week or so then had the same reaction she developed towards her kibble which is the adorable Sammy backwards shuffle and head-shake in this house :)
She was into the trial of the Farmer’s dog for exactly two pouches and she started to give me the same dance so instead of throwing her off yet again or missing her signals I thought I’d crowd source from those who know
For those who like extra extra TMI: her doodoos have been consistent and good and vet is in the loop :)
Additional FWIW:
She has a well-established weekly routine but her days fall into two categories: 3 days I go into the office so her walks are slightly different and 4 days it’s us against the world :)
I am very lucky to have grown up with my Dog’s great great uncle or something like that, same breeder and line. my mother now has my Dog’s brother different litter! My elder brother went with a different breeder but has two amazing Sams. a total Samoyed family and really lucky but all of those beautiful boys have been fed kibble exclusively (though I’ve witnessed plenty of table scrap treats). I think I might have made the grave error with my baby girl of giving her way too many different flavors of Bocce’s treats….my millennial soul was overcome by the branding and colors…
TLDR: what’s my Dog trying to tell me? How to make picky Sam happy? we’re all ears and ready to follow “trust me it works” things like idk a different location or type of bowl for her food etc etc
