October 14 - NYRR Advance Registration (January-March) Megathread

https://www.nyrr.org/run/race-registration-launch-timeline

Advance registration begins today at 12 PM - NOON for ALL MEMBERS.

If you are not a 9+1 Passholder, none of these races will count for 9+1.

If you are a 9+1 Passholder, you can still register for these races to get more 9+1s. You are not limited to the one you've been guaranteed.

And if you've somehow missed out on the 9+1 Program Changes, please read about it from whatever rock you're living under.

9+1 Passholders have already been assigned their given races (and started signing up as well), but they also may be registering for more, so we have no idea what this registration period is going to look like or how many slots remain.

Date Race Location Note Status
Jan 9 Joe Kleinerman 10K / register Central Park Standby List SOLD OUT 1:37pm
Jan 24 Fred Lebow Half / register Central Park Standby List SOLD OUT ~7:00pm

As long as you're in the waiting room before noon, you will be assigned a queue position randomly. There is no difference between entering the waiting room at 11:01am vs 11:59am. However if you log on at 12:01pm, you will be put at the back of the line.

I made a free planner for NYC Marathon weekend: start times, where to watch, and race-week events in one place

I ran Chicago this month and found myself juggling a dozen tabs for race weekend, so I built something for New York: https://goracecrew.com

  • Running: your wave and corral times, race morning worked back from your ferry or bus, and the race-week shakeouts, pasta dinners and pop-ups you want, in one plan.
  • Cheering: share one link with your people. They pick spots on the course and see roughly when you’ll pass, and how long it takes to get from spot to spot.
  • Just watching: places to watch, with how to get there by subway.

It’s free, unofficial (not connected to NYRR or any sponsor), has no ads, and you don’t need an account. Best functions when you save the site to your home screen.

It’s a first version, and I’ll keep updating it right up to race day. If something’s wrong, missing or confusing, tap Help, then Send feedback, or reply here. I read everything. As new events get announced, they'll also get added to the site as well!

How long is everyone’s long run this week?

I always find this week a bit weird.

Some people are tapering heavily. Some people are doing a big second peak week.

What is everyone planning for the weekend?

My program has 27km with 8 at MP. Wondering if I should reduce total but increase MP. E.g. 22km with 3x4km at MP.

Anyone else struggling with injuries close to race day?

Just looking for camaraderie, not medical advice!

Anyone else running (or trying to run) NYCM while managing an injury? I would love to vent/commiserate with you as the anxiety leading up to race day is killing me. My 20 week training block was going swimmingly — I ran 22mi w/ 11 at MP 2 weeks ago, and had no pain during or right after, but the week following, shit started to hit the fan. I have never in my life had serious knee pain, and out of nowhere I developed IT band syndrome after an easy run (extremely frustrating as I had just gotten my plantar fasciitis under control).

Given how close it is I’m frantic… in PT 2x week, seeing an orthopedic doctor, on RX anti inflammatory, icing/rolling/stretching/etc. I’m pulling the trigger and getting a cortisone injection tomorrow at my doctor’s suggestion (I know it’s controversial, but I understand the risks and trust her guidance). It feels like a hail mary to potentially get me through the race while I continue to do PT and work on a longer term solution.

I am absolutely hellbent on running this marathon though. Like I will crawl across the finish if I have to! It’s my first and I have been through SO much to even get to this point. I spent years dealing with RED-S and hypothalamic amenorrhea as a result of that, and knowing the marathon was coming this fall was one of the biggest motivators driving my period recovery.

Ironically, my fitness is amazing right now and I was on track to likely run 3:45 comfortably. My friends and family are coming in from out of state and I am gutted at the thought of potentially needing to defer. At risk of sounding dramatic, I’ve cried nearly every day since this injury came on as this all means so much to me.

I don’t know what the next few weeks will hold but I would love any solidarity or words of encouragement, whether you’re injured or not! I will 100% do what is right for my body when it’s time to make a final decision, but I am praying and doing everything in my power to get myself to the start line. Sending love if you’re dealing with something similar 🩵

GWB Southwalk now open

Just saw it on the news...the walkways on the GWB are complete. This is a bittersweet day for me. I worked in Englewood Cliffs from 2006-2024. I used to run and bike across the GWB all the time. During Covid I was usually alone in the office, and its possible I might've spent very long breaks running across the bridge and riding into the park (I also explored all the trails in the Palisades). Running to Yankee Stadium was a favorite summer activity. So now, bikes will be on the north pathway, and runners on the south. Much safer for everyone. Sad I can't use it regularly, but wish you all good riding up 9W. No more dodging electric scooters and bikes!

Tipster 2026 NYC Bakery Half - Lottery Results?

My friend and I both entered into the Tipster NYC Bakery Run half marathon lottery! I believe the lottery results are supposed to be released today - has anyone heard back yet, positively or negatively?

EDIT: like all of you, did not get in. I guess it’s time for me to run my own bakery crawl!

Anyone running the NYC marathon sick rn?

Woke up with a massive sore throat this morning since everyone in my office likes to come in sick. Anyone else sick? This is my first marathon so I’m worried I’m missing one of my long runs.

Weekend weather - a good opportunity for practice

Sunday morning is looking to be quite cool, so could be a good opportunity to test/practice some aspects of running in colder weather in races - such as opening gel packs with gloves on, etc.

Hi all, first time running the NYC marathon this year and was wondering what the best options are for getting photos of myself during the race / after the race. I'd like to receive them ASAP!

Thanks all

All Q1 NYRR Races are Sold Out as of ~7:00pm

Megathread here

Last year these races did not sell out on Advance Registration day, though that's not saying a ton - most people here seemed focused on Q2 races and later.

As of ~1:00pm today, the queue was down to 0-1 minutes, and the first race sold out at 1:16pm, so it looks like for anyone in the queue at noon they would have gotten all the races they wanted.

Looking for a Volunteer Swap

Hey NYRR running community! Reaching out for some help. I was chosen to be the flag bearer for my birth country Bangladesh but it conflicts with my 4pm Friday, October 30th volunteer shift at the expo to finish 9+1. NYRR has not been able to support and told me to keep looking for openings. You all know how hard it’s been to get a volunteer slot. If anyone has a morning expo slot for Friday they’d be willing to trade, I’d very much appreciate it. Really hoping I can finish my 9+1 and also rep my country for my first ever marathon. Thank you!

Transportation Back Up Plan

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I just have this crippling fear that I will oversleep on race day like Jean-Paul Jean-Paul on Seinfeld. I have a bib through work that includes bus transportation and 5:15AM. If I happen to miss the bus, is the Statan Island Ferry open to anyone day of or do you have to have a ticket/reservation in advance?

My wave isnt until 10:55AM so that could leave me some time to catch the ferry as a plan B if it's allowed

Thank you!

NYC Marathon - Toilet Paper

If you race around NYC, you know that it's all too common to run into a porta-potty at the start, and realize there is no toilet paper! While you may feel silly doing so, I encourage you to include a roll in your morning bag. I personally bring a roll to every race, and will just leave it at the start. Best case: You need it, and it's there. Worst case: You donate it to the next person who might need it - I've been in line for the bathroom and handed it off to someone panicked.

Obvious disclaimer that it's ridiculous for us to have to do this, though recognize it's hard to keep facilities adequately stocked throughout the day, but I'm trying to help people avoid a race-day fumble.

5am Ferry - How to Get There

Extremely excited for my first NYC marathon! Im part of the 9:10am start time and saw I need to be on the 5am Ferry. Ill be staying in Midtown off of 49th and Lexington.

To make it for the 5am ferry, what mode of transportation do you suggest? Im thinking of grabbing a taxi or a uber/lyft. Not sure if the subway is the best option at a delirious hour for an out of towner.

NYC Marathon - Blue vs. Orange/pink corral 1A for faster pace?

I got assigned Blue wave 1 corral A and I'm looking to run sub 2:45 time, from research that starts right behind the elite men but in past videos I've seen and start pages, there are a ton of charity runners, NYPD, FDNY, celebrities at the start, many people who look like they're starting at a slow jog, taking selfies, etc. Is orange or pink corral better for that reason? Will there be a huge bottleneck and a lot of weaving early on in blue wave start? I see the bridge looks wide and I'm sure things will spread out but I'd rather avoid expanding that much energy and be among similar runners from the start

Running NYC? Free Throwaway clothes!

If anybody who wears a women's small or medium (large probably also works as I tend to buy things oversized) is looking for free throwaway clothes to wear to the NYC Marathon start, I'm doing a big closet clean out today and have a bunch of sweatshirts/sweaters/sweatpants I'll be getting rid of! Thinking about bringing a big bag of stuff to McCarren tomorrow or Friday evening if there's interest. I also have a cricut and am happy to make custom iron on name decals for shirts/sports bras if anybody is interested! Thinking around $5 or so each just to cover the time/material cost? Feel free to comment or DM me if you're interested in either!

Update (8:36) headed home for the night!

Update (7:50pm) still here but probably only for another half hour or so~~!~~

Update (6:25pm) i'm here at the outside table next to the patio door of park house!

Update: planning to be at McCarren starting around 6:30 and hang out there until 8 or until I run out, whatever comes first! Planning on grabbing a table on the patio behind park house, if available! I'll be the girl with the big clear rectangle tote! Will also update when/if i'm running low or about to head home!

Remembering the Poland Springs Marathon Kickoff (5M)

I was digging through some storage boxes in my closet and uncovered these NYRR Poland Springs race shirts. They got me remembering how I used to love running this race as I'd have a pretty good pace to go along with it. Seems like it could be resurrected with another sponsor (with a work around the marathon pavilion construction) and perhaps, even follow the last 4 or 5 miles of the marathon course (yeah, I'm ambitious there - car owners would definitely hate it...)

It's not like there isn't a demand for an organized running event the week before the marathon. Over the last few years, the unofficial last 10 mile runs have grown quite a bit in popularity.

Virtual NYC Marathon

I live in Los Angeles and after 8 years of putting my name in for the lottery was finally accepted to run the Virtual NYC 2026 Marathon with TFK to get guarenteed entry to run in person next year. I am running the marathon on 10/24. All the people around me are HYPED for me, but I am struggling to get in the right headspace. I've ran the LA marathon before and am used to the excitement of the city the week before really amplifying my energy and excitement about running the race. This is not why I am running but it is helpful for me in shaking the pre race nerves. Also, I am a visualizer. I usually drive the route and look at the finish line and look back to that picture when I am running to motivate me, with a virtual race I dont have that.

Anyone else running the virtual marathon this year to get guarenteed in person entry next year? If so, how are you mentally preparing for the virtual race?
