I built an app that records your actions on Windows and websites, then lets you replay them instantly
Hey everyone! I’ve spent the past few months building Portal17 Studio, a Windows app with a simple idea: record a task once, then replay it whenever you need it.
It records actions in Windows applications and web browsers. Once you stop recording, you can immediately replay those actions.
Your recording becomes a visual workflow you can edit: change values, add steps, use variables, or introduce conditions and loops.
My main goal is to make automation easy to get started with: record something useful, replay it, and add more advanced features when you need them.
You can also:
- Combine Windows apps and websites in the same workflow, passing data between them.
- Read and write Excel and CSV files, loop through rows, and fill existing Excel templates while preserving their formatting.
- Extract text from PDFs, Word documents, presentations and scanned images, using OCR when needed.
- Read emails and save attachments from Outlook or IMAP accounts, filter messages, and use their contents in your workflows.
- Call APIs and query databases, then reuse the results in browser or desktop actions.
- Manage files and folders: copy, move, rename, create, zip, unzip and process entire folders.
- Reuse workflows by calling them from other flows.
- Run workflows automatically on a schedule or through webhooks, new files, incoming emails, keyboard shortcuts or signing in to Windows.
- Debug visually with breakpoints, step-by-step execution and a run history that helps you locate failed steps.
If you already use other automation tools, I’d particularly like your feedback on how easy Portal17 is to record with, understand and edit. The connected node canvas lets you see how your workflow fits together, workflows are saved as portable .portal files, and scheduling and triggers are built into the app without requiring a separate cloud workflow.
There’s a free trial, and I’d love people to try it on their own repetitive tasks. Feedback on recording accuracy, confusing steps or bugs would be especially helpful.
