100 Rogues - Now available on Steam
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3763720/?snr=1_5_9__205I have discounted the game for our launch window, which will last through the Roguelike Celebration event on steam next week.
For those who are unfamiliar, we are a traditional roguelike through and through.
First and foremost, the designer put strategy and tactics as the highest priority. Learning how monsters behave and building the right Rogue to counter them is the most satisfying part of play.
Each of the 4 playable classes have a unique skill tree with tons of room to experiment with build combinations. Hundreds of procedurally generated items and rare artifacts, with hidden monsters and secrets to find.
For our returning fans from the iOS release, we have plenty of new items, enemies, and a few other new secrets to discover.
Go kill Satan!

I'm out of the loop on this, but any chance for a new ios release, or mac? Thank you either way, awesome game!

Itch.io hosts a web-compatible version that runs on most modern mobile devices. It's my preferred way to play to be honest!

Small thing on the Steam page, the Linux box lists 16 GB of RAM as the minimum while the Windows one says 4. I'm guessing it's the Steam Deck's own specs pasted in, since the note says tested on Steam Deck. I'd lower it so someone on an older Linux laptop doesn't skip a game this small.

Holy crap I had somehow forgotten about this game, wishlisted!
(Although IMHO I'd rather have it back on iOS!)

Maintaining a mobile game is more effort than I have time for, I'm afraid.
However! https://wespaugh.itch.io/100-rogues
The game has a FREE web version that is compatible with most mobile browsers for on-the-go play. This is still my preferred way to play the game.

Shouldn't it be called 4 Rogues?

The name came from one of the game's early inspirations, which was an old NES RPG called 100 World Story. The design diverged quite a bit from that game, but we kept the name since it still made sense in context; you will likely send hundreds of rogues to their deaths.

What is the underlying rationale for four-way movement instead of eight-way control?

Mobile / touch support was behind the initial decision; 4-directional movement gave big, clear areas to touch that would result in fewer fat-fingerings of the controls.
That said, however, even with the opportunity to change it, I don't think we would. 4-directional movement allowed us to put more effort into the animations, and I think it made for more interesting class abilities than we would have otherwise had. It affected everything from how easily Confused enemies can follow their targets to how quickly the Scoundrel could quick-step through enemies to how easily the Bruiser could gib enemies with his abilities. I think all of those abilities feel stronger than they would have if we'd used 8-directional movement.

Thank you for the background information. I now understand the 4-way movement issue on touchpad RLs.

Awesome! Congratulations on getting this game out there again! I'd love to see it on android.
This was my favorite game for many years.

Thank you! The game is playable on my pixel 8 (and presumably most android devices) here: https://wespaugh.itch.io/100-rogues
For various reasons I don't like the idea of releasing it to mobile app stores, but the web version is a great compromise.

So excited for some retro roguelike action! Unfortunately, I could never quite kill Satan.

I played the fuck out of this like 100 years ago. When I saw it on the steam sale the audio design and the bucket unlocked a corner of my brain I hadn’t been in a while. I don’t think I knew what a roguelike was and this may have been my first.

How much playtime I can expect to get out of it?
