I’ve been skiing since I was 6, and I do ski trips/flights all the time, but I’ve been thinking about doing something different. I’m a college freshman and have a month off from mid-December to mid-January, and I want to take a road trip from Florida to the Rockies and ski as much as possible.
The idea is to drive out in my SUV, get an Ikon Pass, and spend the month driving around and skiing different resorts in Colorado and Utah. I’d probably spend around 3 days driving out there and 3 days driving back, and live out of my car to keep costs down.
I’d get a sleeping setup for the SUV with a mattress or sleeping pad and warm sleeping bags, but I’m wondering where people actually sleep during trips like this, especially near ski resorts. I’d also be driving alone at 18, so I’m curious how exhausting the long drives get and how people manage driving safely in winter.
I’d want to keep food cheap by buying groceries and making simple meals, and figure out showers and laundry along the way.
Has anyone done something similar? Any advice on sleeping in your car, finding places to park overnight, budgeting, or planning a trip like this would be appreciated.
