IMAGE [Tyler Milliken] Ceddanne Rafaela has been named a Gold Glove finalist in CF for the 2nd year in a row 👏 Rafaela led the AL in Outs Above Average for ALL outfielders. He was 2nd in DRS to Wilyer Abreu. Time to go back to back… 😤

What makes Abreu such a good outfielder? He doesn’t make the sensational catches like Cedanne. Is it just his arm? Or is he so good at getting a jump on the ball that everything looks easy.

His instincts on where to position himself when fielding the ball are unteachable and his arm is just as accurate as it is strong. The scouting report on balls hit to him down the line will be "if you want second you better be damn sure you can make it" until he gets old. So lucky to have him

Every hard shot into right field I am instinctively thinking its a hit, till the camera cuts and I see big Willy ranging back with a perfect beat on the ball.
And even when he has a beat on it, half the time I'll see him twist around, running full pelt, and I'll think "Oh no way he's got this"
And then he sticks his glove up and its like he didnt even try.

Defensive stats are a little bit unpredictable but I think a combination of elite arm, gets a very good jump, and a very tough right field in his home park that gives him a good opportunity to showcase his skills. I feel like a lot of places have easier right fields than left fields so there aren't as many top defenders in right.

He better build a big shelf. He'll have a lock on this award for the next decade.
