Why can’t people just let themselves raisin with grace?

u/Jealous-Knowledge-56 10d ago
Just look at all the horrible comments about Jasmine Guy (who is aging gracefully) in the Different World reboot. You can’t win with some people.
214
u/SonicFlash01 10d ago
Matters less what people say than which ones you listen to. Are you making decisions based off catty internet shits? You're gonna go down a rabbit hole and hate how you end up, and/or develop body dysmorphia.
131
u/GrowlingPict 10d ago
"your boos mean nothing; Ive seen what makes you cheer!" is an attitude more people should adopt
21
u/Far_Detective2022 10d ago
Besides, most comments online are just bots now anyway. Kind of hard to take anything seriously when the internet has every single opinion.
42
u/StoneTheMoron 10d ago
Yeah for sure, there’s people that are just gross to the ageing, but you’re gonna be damned either way, they may call you ugly but they’ll respect you while doing it.
16
u/Dear_Chasey_La1n 10d ago
Though.. Simon certainly isn't winning.
I think the real issue is how it starts off. People do a little bit of botox and yeah.. you look a bit fresher. But when you start there is no stopping and all to often it escalates.
I reckon a good chunk of these men and women in all fairnes relied for a long time on looks, not so much on acting skills. So when their beauty fades and the roles disappear, it might seem like an easy fix.

i've never heard of her but i looked her up and she just looks like a normal woman her age? Actually looks pretty good for her age
13
u/Jealous-Knowledge-56 10d ago
She starred on the original show almost 40 years ago as a college student when she was about 24. She’s gained a few more wrinkles than most of the other returning cast over the years and it’s spawned a lot of comments.
17
u/Fakehiggins 10d ago
you can't win with "people" on the internet. because they're not people and instead bots from foreign nations programmed to sow dissent and make everyone miserable. most complaints people are worried about these days are from social media, and no one should care what social media has to say because it's literally a hostile nation trying to hurt you.

This guy made his living criticizing others, not surprised that he is incredibly insecure.

Pam Anderson is doing it right and she looks amazing. Considering she was once the poster child for surgical enhancement, it’s nice to see.

This is a prime example of how your social environment shapes your worldview.
When you live in a world where you're constantly reminded about the importance of outer beauty, it becomes understandable why people will go through extreme lengths to try and obtain or preserve it.
Most of us already know what its like to feel the societal pressures of beauty standards through media and pop culture.
Now imagine that same pressure existing in every facet of your life, unable to be escaped even after you put the phone down. You do business with people and see how beauty is more rewarded than character. You're surrounded by friends and family who are also deeply submerged within this superficial ethos and the their tiny comments about weight and wrinkles add up enough over the years to the point where familial acceptance becomes synonymous with maintaining beauty standards. And then when you leave your family and job and walk around the city, agaim you are constantly reminded about how ugliness deminishes your worth as a person.
A similar phenomenon is seen in individuals raised in deeply religious communities. You ask yourself how people could possibly hold such extreme ideas that seem to contradict common sense and your lived experience- but when you live in a community where, in every facet of your life, you're met with other humans are convinced that God himself is watching their every move, the idea that God ISN'T watching over you is the idea that seems insane.
People heavily underestimate the influence our social environment has on us. But if you consider for a moment how detrimental being socially outcast is, not just in our everyday lives but also throughout the histort of our evolution, it becomes easier to understand why we're so susceptible to social conditioning.

u/Elite_AI 10d ago
You're asking why people whose looks are a major part of their jobs can't age with grace?
49
u/CrazeMase 10d ago
Because Simon specifically quite literally can not. A few years ago he got into a brital motorcycle accident that mangled his face and he needed extensive reconstructive surgery. He wasn't able to get his face back to the proper look though cause of the severe swelling and because at the time, the anesthetics could've killed him. So it essentially landed at "This is literally the best we can do for the time being." A while ago people would post pics of his face when he looked super puffy still, that was because the soft tissue was still extremely swollen. I know the internet is super good at being mean, but let's give some grace when a surgery ends at a "This is the best we can do" and not a "We did it perfectly."
54
u/Smgt90 10d ago
I thought he broke his back only. I couldn't find anything about his face being affected by the accident.

Are you mixing up Simon Cowell and Zac Efron?
→ More replies (5)29
u/Elite_AI 10d ago
Yeah this is Zac. People making fun of Zac are particularly awful
8
u/bentreflection 10d ago
was it confirmed that actually happened? I never followed it closely but there were rumors that it was just a story to cover a surgery that didn't turn out the way he wanted so i never knew what to believe.
5
u/OldBonyBogBwitch 9d ago
I thought Zac Efron gave some story about slipping in his house while wearing socks & hitting his jaw on the counter or something when he was accused of botched fillers/cosmetic surgery on his face when he started looking gigachadchin crazy???
26
u/tasticle 10d ago
That never happened. Simon Cowell has never injured his face while riding a motorcycle or ebike, he broke his back. He broke his face with botox and plastic surgery.

Because they get work done that was more subtle and came out well in the past so they think they can keep doing it. See Jennifer Anniston as a recent example. She had lots of work done in the post Friends years and she mostly looked great and was getting away and then she went to far and now.....

That's because it is fake.
It's the usual: Photoshop a picture of a celeb already looking kinda iffy, making him look like some kind of ghoul, then spread the picture going "Look how awful he looks!", and everyone here eats it up.

Why is the media normalizing this shit? "Youthful" is not a word any sane person would use to describe that face.
3
u/Psychological-Try785 6d ago
Im in my 30s but people think I'm in my 20s. I geniunely believe that people who use botox/fillers end up looking a lot older than they really are. Simon Cowell looked alright before he mangled his face with surgeries/treatments. He looked older because he is, but he has damaged himself to the point that his aging is irrelevant.

u/Large-Illustrator-35 9d ago

He had tons of fillers that he had dissolved a few years ago as he looked like a balloon animal and you can't go back to natural after that mucb surgery so he now looks weird just in a different way.

1
u/CaliforniaNavyDude 10d ago
Not everyone getting heavy plastic surgery is suffering from body dysmorphia but a lot of them do. There's pressure in entertainment to look good, and those constant little nudges make you hyper focus on your perceived flaws. It makes trying to fix them tempting, and while plastic surgery can be well done, it is definitely a situation of diminishing returns. It has limits, and pushing them makes you look just plain odd. And then you're stuck with that.
